| Are you really sure that your girlfriend wants a Yorkie for a birthday present? I only ask becaiuse sometimes us guys get the wrong Idea of what our partners want. After 36 years of marriage, I eventually becamse smart enough to ask...but lately, I just suggest she go and buy whatever she wants and I will take the credit. Sort of like "He went to Jared"! If she does want one, and knows what is involved with these little pups, there is a lot of great info here. Good luck. |

| Yorkies are not gifts...they are living creatures. I don't know how old you are but Yorkies easily live 15 years, so please think about what you are doing.

| Admin, several hours ago I posted what I thought was a common sense answer to the above OP on how they are not gifts, and if he is sure she wants a Yorkie. My post never made it? Is there a reason for this? There sure does seem to be a lot of censorship. |

But, I agree with you that yorkies shouldn't be given as gifts......however, the OP may have not given us all the information. His girlfriend may have asked for a Yorkie and he wants to make her wish come true........

| Thanks Mardelin, appreciate the reply. This is a great board, and in just a few days I have learned quite a bit. Sure wish I knew all of this info when we got our little girl 12 years ago. Even at my age, the learning never stops. I guess the word "gift" drew my attention as I support several Shelters that are over loaded with dogs in the area. Many of them started out as gifts, or the flavor of the day. If she wants a Yorkie, then that is outstanding. You now have the job of keeping me in check! |

I'm assuming and I know I shouldn't, that this is this young man's intention, to fulfill his girlfriend's wish.....at least I hope so.......

That's outstanding. Good luck on your search, and there are some real terrific people here to recommend and guide you! I was stationed out in Quantico, Va many years ago. One time we got 3" of snow that shut the area and the base down. How is life out there now with all of the huge storms? We got a good one yesterday. Most now ever in one day in Chicago in Feb. I sure do miss the Phoenix Area. | |
