looking for a yorkie Me and my girlfriend decided to buy a yorkie. She wanted a teacup but I read the thread seeing teacups dont exist. We have looked at some pet stores and I know most if not all are from puppy mills but I dont know where else to look. Every where wants about $1000 or more for a dog including shots are there any better deals?? |
Finding (locate & visit) a good Yorkie is first. You can then try to negotiate price. It will be hard to find a good Yorkie pup, in the tri-state area, for less than $1K, but there may be exceptions. You might find one farther away, for less, but then you need to pay for transportation. You could look also look at rescues. Enjoy the search, & good luck. |

That is an Amish puppymill big trouble I would not touch a puppy from there. Save a few hundred now spends thousands on a sick dog later |
I would not buy something that is going to be a part of my family from off the Internet, puppymill or a store. A baby puppy is not a box of Cherrios. You need to look and hold the puppy. Check its paperwork make sure it has the proper shots and the parents have been fed and treated in a loving way.It should look like what a true yorkie is suppose to look like. You can only get that from a reputable breeder. I would strongly suggest you look on AKC website or do your homework. |
no i know you have to play with the dog i was going to go to pennsylvania but i decided to ask here to see if it was a smart choice but im going to try the store because there are no breeders close by |

You seem to be focused on getting an "inexpensive" Yorkie. Make sure you do research, before purchasing, into the cost of owning a Yorkie. Vet bills alone can be very expensive. |
Have you thought about looking at rescues? I agree...it sounds like you are more concerned about the price of the pup then the health...I know these little ones can be expensive,...However...A LOT of puppies bought from Mills and Pet Stores (which these puppies come from breeder mills/farms) may be cheaper to buy but, in the long run could end up costing you alot more money...They are usually sick and spend alot of time at the vets. You may want to reconsider this breed and find a small breed that fits your budget. Good Luck with your search |

I looked at the lancasteryorkies web site. From what I can see, they do not breed the dogs. They are a referral service for over 70 breeds. They tell you they put you in touch with the breeders. If you are wanting to save money, paying a third party to direct you to a dog is not the way to do it. Lancasterpuppies can't do this for free, I am sure their fee for sending you to a breeder is built into the price of the puppy. It is heartbreaking to have a sick or dying puppy in your hands and have to frantically get help for it in order to save it's life. And the vet bills, well that is another story experienced by many on YT. Please, listen to the information being given here and take heed. We don't charge for our services. :) |
