looking for a yorkie Me and my girlfriend decided to buy a yorkie. She wanted a teacup but I read the thread seeing teacups dont exist. We have looked at some pet stores and I know most if not all are from puppy mills but I dont know where else to look. Every where wants about $1000 or more for a dog including shots are there any better deals?? |
Finding (locate & visit) a good Yorkie is first. You can then try to negotiate price. It will be hard to find a good Yorkie pup, in the tri-state area, for less than $1K, but there may be exceptions. You might find one farther away, for less, but then you need to pay for transportation. You could look also look at rescues. Enjoy the search, & good luck. |
im not sure if im allowed to post links here but i was going to talk to the person selling the pups on lancasterpuppies.com its in pennsylvania and the male pup is $400 or theres always puppyfind.com |
I live on the eastern shore of Maryland and i have a real cute little boy you might be interested. His dad is 2 points away from his Championship. |

and im also lloking at pets2u.com which is a store in ny and my girlfriend has bought a dog off them in the past she said they dont keep the dogs in cages andd all the owners do is play with them all day |
That is an Amish puppymill big trouble I would not touch a puppy from there. Save a few hundred now spends thousands on a sick dog later |
I would not buy something that is going to be a part of my family from off the Internet, puppymill or a store. A baby puppy is not a box of Cherrios. You need to look and hold the puppy. Check its paperwork make sure it has the proper shots and the parents have been fed and treated in a loving way.It should look like what a true yorkie is suppose to look like. You can only get that from a reputable breeder. I would strongly suggest you look on AKC website or do your homework. |
no i know you have to play with the dog i was going to go to pennsylvania but i decided to ask here to see if it was a smart choice but im going to try the store because there are no breeders close by |
please wait and look you can find a good breeder if you just take your time and look do not buy from a store Pet Stores: Pet Store Puppies and Puppy Mills Pet Store Puppy |
You seem to be focused on getting an "inexpensive" Yorkie. Make sure you do research, before purchasing, into the cost of owning a Yorkie. Vet bills alone can be very expensive. |
Have you thought about looking at rescues? I agree...it sounds like you are more concerned about the price of the pup then the health...I know these little ones can be expensive,...However...A LOT of puppies bought from Mills and Pet Stores (which these puppies come from breeder mills/farms) may be cheaper to buy but, in the long run could end up costing you alot more money...They are usually sick and spend alot of time at the vets. You may want to reconsider this breed and find a small breed that fits your budget. Good Luck with your search |
Dont settle HELLO I AM A BREEDER AND I AGREE WITH WHAT EVERYONE HERE IS SAYING ,IF PRICE IS AN ISSUE PLEASE DONT RESULT TO A PUPPYMILL FOR THE SAKE OF OWNING A YORKIE ADOPT FROM A RESCUE WE ARE ONLY TRYING TO SAVE YOU HEARTACHE AND EDUCATE YOU ABOUT PUPPYMILLS ALSO YOU MENTION PET STORE WELL PETSTORE OR PUPPYMILLS =SICK DOG +LARGE BILLS +HEARTACHE+ pain and suffering for THE sick dog -a long forever pet to raise as a bundle of joy for you and your wonderful family take your time and research a pet WE HAVE PLENTY OF BREEDERS HERE ON THIS SITE THAT OFFER QUALITY DOGS TO FIT EVRYONE BUDGET SOME ARE ON THE LOW END AND OTHERS ARE A LITTLE HIGHER BUT THE MAIN THING IS FINDING THE PUPPY THAT FITS YOUR NEEDS AND AT LEAST HERE YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE GOODLUCK |

Unfortunately for you, Yorkies in the tri-state area, tend to be higher priced than most other States, & vets charge more. I was surprised to find that my vet charged almost $500 for neutering, but some out-of-state breeders could get it done for less than $100. |
I looked at the lancasteryorkies web site. From what I can see, they do not breed the dogs. They are a referral service for over 70 breeds. They tell you they put you in touch with the breeders. If you are wanting to save money, paying a third party to direct you to a dog is not the way to do it. Lancasterpuppies can't do this for free, I am sure their fee for sending you to a breeder is built into the price of the puppy. It is heartbreaking to have a sick or dying puppy in your hands and have to frantically get help for it in order to save it's life. And the vet bills, well that is another story experienced by many on YT. Please, listen to the information being given here and take heed. We don't charge for our services. :) |

A great place to get a great dog--if you are mature enough adults to own a Yorkie Please think long and hard before you acquire a Yorkie. Are you willing and able to take it to the vet and pay the vet bills. It is $500 to get my Yorkie's teeth cleaned. Average vet biils for a small dog is $1000-to-$1500 a year and this is with no major health problems. If so... www.YORKIERESCUEME.com is a great place to get a wonderful Yorkie. My husband and I adopted a 4.7 year old Yorkie with papers from the Irish Kennel Club. She was given up because she has food and pollen allergies that were treated by giving her too much steriods, so she also became diabetic. She is a delightful dog that goes with me everywhere. She walks everywhere. She rides in a bicycle basket. She rides in the car in a large cage or in a dog bed. She even goes on the DC Metro with me. When you adopt a non-puppy they are already potty trained and leash trained. If you are looking for an inexpensive dog, please do NOT get a Yorkie. Even www.YORKIERESCUEME.com charges adoption fees. The theory is that if you are unwilling to pay a fee and suport all the dogs they rescue then you may not be willing to spend the money to give the dog the proper medical care. You may think you are justing getting a dog--no big deal. In reality a Yorkie is going to bond with one of you and want to be your Best Friend for the rest of its life. |
actually im now that much focused on the price my girlfriend wants a yorkie and was willing to walk into a pet store and pay them 1300 but i told her lets look around. I emailed a few people on akc because its confusing to know whos a puppy mill whos not and everyone keeps saying dont buy from a pet store but in nyc thats all we have not many breeders out here |
Think about a rescue I know Yorkies are the most adorable dogs. I can't imagine ever having another dog that wasn't a Yorkie. I got a of books on Yorkie's and dogs from my local library before we adopted this one. It really helps. My vet calls Yorkies "Little Generals"--they can be bossy little dogs. They know what they want and they can be impatient. The smaller ones are adorable, but they can be less sturdy. Some can have difficult teeth and a delicate treachea. They can also have a little snort that sometimes sounds like a goose--but that is normal. Please look into rescueing a dog. They are wonderful dogs. Not all are old or have been sick. Most of the dogs people got them not realizing that they are too delicate for kids under 8, that they need to eat 2-3 times a day, or that the vet bills were too much for them. With the economy in the state it is in a lot of people have given up their gorgous adorable pets. The rescue league I used works out of PA and NJ. They have lots of dogs--all ages. Here is a link to their dogs available for adoption: Our Dogs They also tell you about the dog's personality and behavior. |
I went to a store today because my girlfriend knows the guy she bought a dog from him in the past he treats his dogs different he actually takes care of them. Also I want to go check out the recue center one day my mom wants to recuse a rottweiler. |

Thanks, |
The info below is from the DC Metro's web site. I take my dog in her bike basket since it has a strap that hooks through her harness and she can't get out of the basket unless I release her. I also print out the page from the web site and take it with me...just in case Metro employees are not aware of this policy. Metro - About Metro - Q & A About Metro "Can I bring my dog on Metrorail and Metrobus? The only animals that are permitted on Metrorail are service animals that assist people with disabilities. Pets are not permitted to ride Metrobus or Metrorail. However, a pet can be transported on Metrorail and Metrobus in a secure container as long as there is no possibility that the pet can get free." |
