Rusty gold / black female... Who breeds them???? I am looking for a dark coloured ( rusty gold / black) female Yorkie to start my breeding program. Does anyone know of ant breeders with these colours?? I am in Canada but don't mind having her shipped. Can anyone help me out????? |
The dark coloring that you have described does not meet the Yorkie standard, which calls for a steel blue coat. Breeders who are trying to produce pups that meet the standard will not be breeding for that color combo. For that reason, you *may* run into some problems finding one that fits that description, and even more of a problem finding a dog that does not meet standards that a breeder will place with breeding rights. Nevertheless, welcome to YT! :) |
Are you talking about the color of my male Jazzy? |
|
Most of the darker colored yorkies (black and rust) will, unfortunately, be a cotton coat...which is a lot of work!!! It's difficult, at least in my opinion, to find a TRUE black silk coat. Good luck! |

I never knew that! Buddy has a prue silky coat and he is black and gold. (rust I call it). He was the sofest thing I ever touched when I picked him up the first time. |
I love the look of the darker ones. Mine are pretty average in color. |

Really? Yes, his coat is pure heaven to touch. I snuggle in it everytime he's on my lap. People who pet him say they can't believe how soft he is. He's a teapot so there's that much more of him to enjoy. |
I have a rust and black male. He has more of a cotton coat but when it grows it is beautiful. I'm just confused because he doesn't tangle but I do know its not a silk coat. Is there another type of coat out there? Since I cut his hair its starting to come in nice. I also keep up with his coat as far as using good shampoos & conditioners, leave in conditioners and shine sprays. Gabby on the other hand has a silky coat and I can definately see the difference. She hardly needs anything on her coat..it just flows like silk sheets. I love the dark color yorkies. I have the best of both worlds....one dark and my girls are light. |

Cotton coats are more dense and grow a lot faster than your silk coats. Now, I am NOT an expert...just have read a lot and have spoken to many people, but it is to my understanding that you generally have 3 classes of coats...Cotton or wooly, silk, and wirery (typically your red leg yorkie). All coats come in different degrees and shades. Some may be a true (cotton, silk or wire) while others are modified or blended. To me, a cotton coat feels like rabbit's fur...extremely soft to the touch and has a warm feel. Silk feels cool to the touch and reminds me a lot of human hair. I've never touched a red leg (wire coat) so I couldn't tell you how it feels to me. One thing that I swear by...because of speaking to long time seasoned breeders...but I believe in the eye shine...it's the glow that you get back from the eyes after taking a picture. Red/amber/orange eye shine signifies (to me) a cotton/modified coat. Green or blue green signifies (to me) a silk coat. |

Copper is so so dark, like his mom but his mother's hair was very cottony his is more soft and shiny not silky and shiny. He has an orange glow and I would call him a modified silk texture definately not a true silk. They are so beautiful in my opinion, but not appropriate for the ring. It is hard to find a good breeder that is breeding off of standard on purpose, like for the darker ones. I had thought that I found a really good one, but just found out that Copper is liver compromised. Good luck in your search, please do lots of research on the dog you get, esp. if you want to breed it. |
4 Attachment(s) IS this what you mean? My Kikki Mei is black an Gold.. she has a sily coat.. Everyone plus my groomer can't believe how nice her coat is. So far she has been pretty easy to care for..I brush her every day. She loves it. |

4 Attachment(s) My Tatum's hair is very dark (black) and she has a Silk Coat. The first picture was taken back when she was still a puppy, so the ends look a little "frazzled" but that is just her puppy hair which was still growing out :) |
Brooke, those pics are gorgeous! Another thing people must consider is that most yorkies will change their coat coloring up to 2 years of age...and some even up to 3 years. Coat shine is another factor. Are their coats shiny to the eye or are they dull. Silk will shine while cotton is quite dull. |
2 Attachment(s) We just adopted a girl that might be the color you are looking for. Her name is Gypsy and she is really dark copper red and black. In the dark she even glows almost purple. She is so beautiful and a true silk coat. Her daughter Eve is black and gold though... In the second pic she is the one on the little boys lap and her daughter is the one in my friends arm... |
Oh... I just remembered that the previous mom of Gypsy has 3 puppies from her and maybe she has what you are looking for... her YT user name is lovinmyyorkies... |

P.S. - I hear ya about the shine on the coats. Tatum's is super shiny but my mom's Yorkie, Kenzi, has a Cotton Coat (or it COULD be modified...) and it isn't shiny like Tate's is but Kenzi is sooooo soft - just like you described it, it feels like rabbits fur! :D I actually love it and she looks absolutely DARLING kept in a puppy cut! |

Jazzy's coat is easier to take care of than my girl that is a silk coat. It grows thicker but never matts. He has a great coat. |
Makes Sense, Cooper is black and tan, and he is cottony. Baxter has more red/gold in his coat, and he is very silky, nevery tangled. Both are very soft. Pet Silk can't be beat! |
1 Attachment(s) My Matty Lu is very, very dark, but silky. She is just starting to break now and she'll be one next month. I don't think she will get very light though. This cotton/silky coat type has always confused me. I do like the darker Yorkies though. |
Keoki is black and red with a BEAUTIFUL long coat. I actually chose his breeder because I was looking for a darker yorkie. If you would like the name of the breeder pm me :) |
Wow everyone thanks sooo much for all the info. I couldn't find this post after I posted so I have not been back on. Very interesting info on the eye colour/coat!!!! Sookie- Matty LU is what I am looking for!!!!! Where did you get her from? Do you breed her? WV Yorkies -Jazzy is what I am looking for!!! Where did you get her from did you breed her? Mitzis Mom- exact colour but smaller nose!!! I just personally want a femal with a smaller nose. She is very cute!! stedmansmommy- like the colour but want more gold. Very cute!! Like the smaller nose. Brenda s 54- Yes but more gold on the face and smaller nose. Keokis mom- Yes I like the colours!!! Tx everyone great info !!!! |
I often wonder what comments people got when they started breeding down the size of yorkies?? After all they were always much larger when the breed first started. I'll never understand why people have to be mean! |
