I buy most of my things online because most of the products I use you can't buy at your local pet store. I use Summerwinds Protect a Coat for my dogs coat oil and you can find that at Summerwinds.com and I use Coat Handlers Shampoo but of course that's what I use and you can find most of your shampoos at the dog shows or you can find them at cherrybrook farms or pet edge or the finishing touch maybe other people on here know of other places these are just a few. Just purchase those kinds of things online or at the dog shows. I hope this helps in some way.

a good diet (add flax for a dull coat) and proper grooming products will help

I use their shampoo and detangler (I dont rinse the conditioner I blow it in for extra protection)

when I put them in oil....

neutrogena body oil (mix a couple long squirts into warm) pour it over the clean coat blow it into the coat...

I'll check these products out !! thanks so much ! I order from several of these places already--just didn't know what to buy !! Also some one told me a true silk coat is slow growing--is that correct ?

sorry to be so ignorant of these things but what do you mean when you say "Put them in oil"? I am going to have to really work on getting some oil or something into my new girls coat. i am also going to need to iron it and i don't have a clue. of course she has all puppy hair now but i don't want to take a fuzz ball into the ring. I already use good shampoo and conditioner. Also, Kimberly, how much hair goes into the top knot. Is it all the way back to the spot between the ears? And iss it pulled up from the inner corner or outer corners of the eye/ Sorry. maybe you can pm me the info since I hijacked this lady's thread. Sorry.

I already feed Flax oil and my dog food is Royal Canin and Eukanuba.

Dee you put them in oil to protect the coat as it grows...some do it instead of wrapping, some do it and also wrap the coat...

a pup topknot you only use a very small amount of hair and a bow that is in proportion of his/her head usually a 5/8"...an adult is far different topknot than a pup and usually a 7/8" bow...

depends on the texture of the coat, ask Deana, since she is the breeder I am sure she would be the best to consult about the texture and quality of the coat.

Have you tried Almond Oil...I've had better luck with it....

The amount of hair you take up for a topknot is very dependent on the shape, size of the dog's head and well as the ear set and size of the dogs ears......Bow size is dependent on that too.
Go onto Sweetyblue.com and order yourself their 2 tapes. one for grooming the show coat and the other on topknots.

Topknots is something that must be learned with someone showing you in person. The first lesson is to get get your pup to lay still on one of those neck pillows

The fuzz ball coat can be calmed down by ironing her coat.

No--Kam-o is not from Prestigeous kennel---I have a male named Payne from Her. Kam-O is not from Prestigeous!

I had flaking problems with the neutrogena...and Emu got a bit expensive....Almond oil has solved both problems....can be bought at GNC

Guess I misunderstood too. I thought Kam-O was from Prestigeous also. Where is he from?

oops sorry thought you said Deana, in any event it would be best to ask the breeder of your little man...she would know the coat quality of the sire/dam and previous dogs behind the pedigree...

if the texture is coarse at all you might have difficulty attaining coat...if so your little mans coat will grow but break off so easy that it will more than likely never reach the ground....

You're right Kim....although with the correct products and special care it can be done.

thanks, mary. I am going to start practising on the ironing. i know right now, she doesn't have enough hair to make a good topknot but I saw some puppies at the show that just had it pulled up on top and secured with a show bow

Order the topknot tape.....great info on puppy knots....placement and the amount of hair dependent on head, size and ears...you'll be surprised what can be done with a puppy knot

Oops! forgot to add the color of the bow you use is very important. It should be chosen with the color of your pups head furnishings.

Huh. I have five in my house and a parrot. Big job but really no problem with keeping it clean. When we have company, the only give away that we have five Yorkies is the little mouths barking away or the tongues wanting to lick you the death when you finally get in:) Just me but I couldn't imagine not having my babies with me in the house. I'm in complete agreement. I have a friend who shows and has 12 in her house and they are so happy and well adjusted. They even pick who they want to sleep with at night. :D
Then I know another lady with 23 Yorkies, and she also shows, that are ALL strictly inside. Dogs are social animals and need to be with their family.

I love yorkies and yes all 9 of mine are in the house but 23 OMG I think I'd be insane. That's why my small show/breeding will stay very very small LOL

Oh trust me... if I didn't already have a house full of kids, I'd have all of my dogs in with me! Bingo stays inside and sleeps with me, but that's it.

Also, here are 2 pictures I just took of him. He's in oil right now. I call him my little grease monkey, lol.

I have never seen anything but red on show dogs. i have ordered three . I hope it matchess her but a bright green would be pretty also. Just never did see one in the shows. Here is is now. Needs some grooming but we are just getting used to having the hair up. I will worry about the cut right before the show.

There are different shades of of red...from the blue spectrum - to the watermellon color......Hot pink looks great on some girls and orange for those heads that have a tinge of red..........That's where learning how to make them yourself...you can custom making them for each dogs head.
