My husband and I are so upset I have to ask the show breeders out there a question. let me tell you what happened to me yesterday.... it was pouring down rain and my husband and i were outside watching and we saw three silkies running in the rain. i called them to my house. we kept them in the garage and i called animal control to see if anyone had reported them missing. which none had. after the rain, i placed them all on leashes and took them to the corner of my street hoping who ever lost them would be looking for them and see me. well she did. i come to find out over a year ago, i had rescued these dogs before. they are champion silkies. the owner wasn't too grateful. she started to tell me about her in the ring and she used to judge. i then told her i had Yorkshire Terriers. well....she then started to tell me yorkies are frail, bad teeth. by the time they are 5 yrs old they have to eat mush. she said she would judge them and wonder why they would continue to breed such a poor dog. my husband was beside himself and walked away. by the way, my dogs are not champions but they were much better looking than her dogs any day of the week. now do you find that other show breeders tend to get jealous, or just think their breed is the best and all others are worth nothing? i haven't a clue why she was so ugly to me after i saved her three champions from possible being runned over by a car. we are just so very upset. sorry so long but i just have to vent |
Sounds like she was trying to sound superior over you or something...what a loser...she should have been grateful to you for rescuing her dogs a lesser person might have KEPT them!! How the heck do they all keep getting loose?? Hopefully none are in tact females...one might just come home pregnant after one of these escapades!!!!!! I wonder how many times she has had to go out looking for these babies that you dont know about...dont be upset..she just make herself look stupid.. Dawn |
It is possible that she really does feel this way.She just sounds like a woman lacking tact and grace.Either way it was rude of her |
she breeds them and yes....she one day is going to find her girl pregnant. |
Don't waste another ounce of your energy worrying over what she had to say. Jealousy rears it's ugly head in many ways...or maybe she was frustrated that her dogs got out 'again' and she took it out on you. I know that's no excuse for her but you should feel good knowing you did the right thing and let her conscience deal with her attitude and rudeness. I've had Yorkies for probably 20 years now and I've never had one loose all of their teeth and have to eat mush...they're no more frail than other small breeds and for the most part their health issues depend on the breeding stock. Yes, you will find Yorkies that are sickly but you'll find health issues in every other breed too. |
Did you see all the dead brain cells when you looked up her nostrils because she had her nose so high in the air that she couldn't be GRATEFUL!!! Holy cow! How does somebody lose 3 pups, have them returned and not be appreciative????? I don't blame your husband for walking away. Kudo's to you for rescuing them. |
:yelrotflm :bravo: :sidesplt: :sidesplt: ok...you made my day. thanks Quote:

Some people believe offense is the best defense. Probably what happened here. The lady was most likely terribly embarrassed...probably recalls you rescuing her babies last time. Just a thought. |
I agree she should have been thanking you for going out of you way to keep her dogs safe. Her comments were rude and thoughless. |

I am sorry that you had this negative experience. I wonder what FACTS she is basing her opinions on? |

"well....she then started to tell me yorkies are frail, bad teeth. by the time they are 5 yrs old they have to eat mush. she said she would judge them and wonder why they would continue to breed such a poor dog. " My oldest boy turns 15 in November and he has all his teeth... chews on his bully stick every evening.:) I'm glad she isn't judging anymore! Nothing worse than doing something nice for someone and feeling badly after you're done. |
Wow, that woman sounds incredibly rude! I'm so sorry that you had a negative experience after saving her 3 silkies... |
People never cease to amaze me. What a crappy thing for her to do after you saved her dogs... and in the rain at that. Her attitude shows just how ignorant she is and the more her mouth opens - the more she shows what a fool she must be. Take it with a grain of salt and know YOU did the right thing and you should be proud of yourself. Those poor dogs - imagine living with someone who thinks that way ?? Glad to know there aren't that many out there like her - at least I hope there isn't and lol on the DEAD Brain cells ! |

No, show breeders and judges are not all like this. Most are very nice and would never behave in this manner. My bet is that this woman is miserable in all aspects of her life and I have seen and known people like that, in and out of the dog world. |
i am going to find out her name to see if any on you gals ever heard of her. |
Your a very nice person, if it was me and she started talking like that, I would had to say something smart about her..she might be a "breeder" "judge" or whatever, but she sure isn't a good caretaker of her champion silkies... Good thing you live near her not me...that was very sweet thing you did by taking care of them and finding there home...:) |
dogs I can't stand people who think their breed is the best...we all know Yorkies are the best, end of discussion. LOL |

dogs Lisa, you are very nice, if it happened twice to me, I would call Silkie Rescue..she would not have seen those "champions" again... |

I am certainly not perfect nor are my dogs, but I promise to continue to try to improve this breed with the direction of this community and what resources I have. I have learned so much with the help of so many of you from this yorkie forum. It is invaluable information. I especially thank Yorkierose, because she made the most impact on me on my first post to YT. I wish you all the best. I might not be your friend but you are mine. |

i figured since she has judged, she could help me out with handling them and teaching me the ropes on showing. NOT i feel sorry for whom ever she judged that was not a silky. she'd probably trip them on purpose. |
What an inconsiderate moron... I think that I might have said -- after her disparaging remarks about yorkies... "Oh thank goodness... they were the ugliest looking yorkies that I had ever seen! I'm so glad they're silkies and not Yorkies!" Seriously though -- you did a wonderful thing... and she should have been showing you her gratitude instead of her nose hairs... good thing it stopped raining, or she might have drowned! |
Did she even bother to THANK YOU for getting her dogs out of the rain and keeping them safe??? She sounds rude, and she showed her ignorance. And, why the hell is she letting her championship dogs run loose in the rain? |

As an owner of a Silky...I can't believe she would act like that towards you. I have found that most Silky owners tend to be a little defensive about the breed as most of the time they are called "oversized Yorkies" and not well known. I love both Silkies and Yorkies and am so glad to be honored to be the owner of both of these wonderful breeds. |
