Frank. TN - Scare At Show Today Was anyone at the TN show today in Franklin? The reason I ask is because I heard that the State Troopers were called in to guard and the show had a lockdown! And that someone, just after lunch - tried to steal a dog. And someone was there taking pictures of the dogs in cages. What a scare! It is sad times when one can not enjoy a day at the show. Has anyone else heard about this today? There are also children at these shows, some are junior handlers too. I just feel so sorry for all the people that had to go through this today. T. |
I just don't get it! What is wrong with these kind of people??? There just seems to be more and more stupid and senseless crime everyday.. I find it to be so sad that children have to grow up in this kind of a world today. |
show I read it was PETA...some carriers were opened and they let the dogs loose..haven't heard how many or if they were recovered as yet. I respect anyone's right to have an opinion, but you do not endanger any life, human or animal expressing your opinion, right? I can see PETA going hand to hand with show people, but why would they they to hurt (the dog) if it is the object of their cause? AXX backward thinking! |
They also do not think how this affects the kids that are at the shows too. I have two close friends that have their daughters showing - they are junior handlers. This is so bad! I hope the people that did this get some jail time and heavy fines. T. |
That's just horrible...Why do people do this kind of thing?? It's so frustrating to think that we live in a world that has no respect for other people. Did they hurt the dogs? Were they stolen? |
I am so very sorry about the scare. Such a sad state of affairs when we can't go to a dog show without fear...... :( |
Cutiepieyorkies was at the show. She hasn't got home yet but will probably fill is in tomorrow. |
I was there.... on Friday and Saturday.....and I tell you this....I am soooooo grateful that I was NOT there today......I have two little boys, 6 and 10. I would hate to think of the nightmares that they would be having.......I am sooooo upset..... I am very open minded....and I too respect others opinions....but, when it endangers MY KIDS....or my whatever....then, the wrath of Shirley.....oh, I am just sick....I will NOT be taking my boys with me to the shows anymore.....what a shame..... I am so glad that I decided the garage needing cleaning today!!!! All I can say....just be careful!!! |
Per a show list and a exhibitor that was there. PETA was there, mostely taking pictures of dogs in crates. After lunch an attempted theft of GSD, created a lock down of the building. State Troopers were called in for Security and only 1 door was left for access into the show site. Fellow exhibitors created a buddy system watching each other's set ups while others were in the ring. |
Does GSD mean German Shepard dog? T. |

I saw this on another forum... it was titled "Think twice about leaving your dogs unattended at a show" Heads up for exhibitors.. .. Suzie just called from the Franklin, TN 4 day circuit to file this report: PETA was on the grounds today -- mostly taking pictures of dogs in crates ("animal cruelty") and causing a scene. After lunch an attempted theft of a GSD created a lock down of the building. An announcement was made on the loudspeaker just before groups that the State Troopers were called in and would be helping in "security" for the handlers and their dogs! As of then only one door guarded by law enforcement and watched by club members remains open to come in or go out. Handlers got their friends/assistants to watch their set ups while they were in the ring showing in the groups. Now Franklin, Tennessee is only about 4 hours from Louisville, and the consensus of opinion was that this was a "dress rehearsal" for the big event. Anyone planning on taking dogs, bring padlocks for your crates and use the buddy system. Introduce yourself to people set up around you if you are crated in the building, and take turns watching the dogs. Rumors are circulating that this could end up going back to the national level like it did several years ago when handlers started carrying baseball bats! Please think twice before leaving your dogs unattended at any show. Permission Given to Crosspost |
Show date for Louisville??? Not sure I will make that trip......:thumbdown I guess if people do NOT attend....then they will WIN......is that the intention????Think I will visit their website...may be some clues....:thumbdown |

Here are some concerns - they are having in Louisville and other people are affraid this may come to their town. I guess basically - a person must contact the director of any changes. If you show and need to travel to these shows and gone for more than 3 days - you must contact the director. Cna you imagine having to call all the time. It is hard enough for me just to pack the car and make sure I have everything. Here is information about their concerens - I have listed below from this site: from this site: http://www.louisville-pets.com/problems.html Here are some of the provisions: 1) There is no grandfather clause. If you currently own more dogs than are permitted for your lot size (No more than 3 dogs if you have .5 acres or less). If you?re over the limit, you are out of luck and out of compliance. 2) All unaltered (spayed/neutered) dogs must be in an enclosure that has been *approved in writing* by the Director of Louisville Metro Animal Services. 3) If you trail ride in the park, you must carry with you a "suitable device for the picking up, collection and proper sanitary disposal" of any manure dropped by your horse. Further, you must actually dismount, collect said manure, and dispose of it while maintaining control of your horse. 4) Vets are required to turn over their rabies shot records to LMAS so that dogs which got a rabies vax but not a license can be impounded.. They are also required to notify their clients of the provisions of this 94+ page ordinance. 5) All unaltered dogs must be microchipped. (There are new studies out that show a link between microchips and cancer, by the way--several of them.) 6) If you show your unaltered dog, and travel with it for more than 3 days, you must notify the Director as to the change in location of your unaltered dog. 7) If you sell, give away, or board (yes, board) your unaltered dog, you must notify the Director. 8) You may not purchase an unaltered dog without the written permission of the Director. 9) Revaccination/relicensing requirement for all dogs/cats removed from a kennel or cattery at any time. 10) Prohibits use of invisible fencing for unaltered dogs. 11) Mandates spay/neuter for any unaltered dog that is impounded for any reason before the owner can reclaim the dog. 12) If any of your animals (not just dogs) ?irritates? or ?perturbs? anyone twice within a 5 year period, you will be forced to give up ALL of your animals and will be prohibited from owning animals again for 2 years. 13) Prohibits ownership of ANY animals by anyone who has two violations within 5 years-no matter how minor. 14) Requires reporting of all sales of all dogs, with buyers name & address to be sent to MAS, even if buyer is not local. 15) If you have more than one unaltered pet, of any species, then you will need a $300 Animal Dealer?s license to sell any offspring of your current pets. This includes gerbils, mice, ferrets as well as dogs and cats. 16) Every time you pick up your dog, cat, or ferret from a kennel?even a boarding kennel, you must get it relicensed and revaccinated against rabies! The list just goes on and on... And Mardelin - you are correct about show people staying away from the town to show they do not support this bill. T. |
You have got to be kidding.... They are trying to pass these mandates????? Like I want to call the "Director" every time I go out of town with my dog.....to a show or whatever for more than 3 days????????????? And as much as I travel.....if I choose to kennel a dog....I need to have it revacinated and reliscensed???? OMG, OMG>......it looks to me like , it is an issue of "job security" for the "Director".... OMgoodness......what dictatorship........I need to find out when this show is......I will go to Infodog.....to make sure my vacation is not spent in Louisville..... :thumbdown :thumbdown |
Shirley - They are not Trying to pass it - It is already passed. They had a lot of their community against it and yet it was approved. T. |
Ok....so I read more... I dont have a problem with taking care and proper vacination of my dogs, cats whatever.....I dont have a problem with picking up poop, I dont have a problem with spaying or neutering a dog,I dont have a problem with registering my animals. I dont have a problem with being respectful of the breed.......I will never be a puppy mill......so I cannot understand a lot of the mandates to protect against this..... .....but to have to "report in" to someone...."director" asking for permission .....that I have a problem with..... |
Your kidding.....well, I guess when the company asks if I want to relocate to Louisville, I will pass.................. Guess we will see what impact this will have on the show this month.... Quote:
|
And you cannot show in confirmation an altered or spayed dog. T. |

Yes, it has passed. However, it is being revisited, due to the boycotting that exhibitors are imposing on the town. They've booked all their hotel rooms in other nearby towns, restuarant reservations have been made else where, not shopping there, etc. So, the town is feeling the heat, realizing that dog fanciers do bring in big revenue. |

As an owner of 4 dogs, 2 unaltered -- I guess I would be in trouble if I lived in Louisville. One of the worst things I see is that a neighbor can report that your animals are irritating them twice and you lose them! I would wind up in jail before that happened I am sure. But I can see how nasty neighbors could really get vindictive with this ruling and hurt people badly. |
Franklin Tn I Was In Franklin On Sunday No Problems At That Time But Alot Of No Shows Sad It Seems Yorkies Were Done It Would Have Been Some Easy Wins But It Looked Like All Breeds Were Down In Numbers Going To Louisville On Wensday To Watch Yorkie Special But Will Spend My Money On Luch Before I Get There |
Please crosspost... full permission from Franklin show chair... I am the show chairman for the Nashville Kennel Club and the cluster chairman for the Country Music Cluster in Franklin, TN. This story has gotten out of hand and untrue. No one stole a dog. A man and small child were at the shows. Someone overheard him say that he thought it was cruel to keep the dogs in the cages. He took pictures of a few dogs (all were in appropriate size crates and well taken care of). We were alerted to look for him and make sure nothing happened. We never found him or the child. We had alerted our security and watched entrances to the bldg and let people enter through one entrance. A man fitting the description was seen with a boxer. He was at a crate, when asked if he was from PETA, he said yes, he was. Then he proceeded to put the boxer in the crate and leave. It turned out he was the owner of the boxer and a dog person known to the boxer people. He thought he was just being funny when he said it and didn't know we were under the impression that someone might be at the show to cause problems (which it turned out no one was ever identified). He apologized for causing the commotion. PLEASE STOP THIS RUMOR!!! No one tried to steal a GSD or any other dog. We took precautionary measures to keep any potential problems from arising. Thank you, Brenda Weiss, Nashville KC |
