First Point! 1 Attachment(s) Connor had his first show this weekend and took Winner's dog. That's his first point towards him championship! It was alot of fun. Most people are pretty friendly but I wonder why some have to be so, well, rather snobbish?   |
First Point 1 Attachment(s) Forgot a pic of Connor and I with the Judge |
Congratulations . |
Congratulations -- that must be exciting. How did you get started and know what all to do? Attend a lot of shows? Know of any books that would be good to start with? Sorry anyone was snobby -- maybe they were seeing too much competition coming? ;) Wish you and Connor continued success. |
To get started I found a great breeder who got me just what I asked for and has been very supportive. I took a handling class at our local kennel club. I attended a few matches so that Connor and I could practise what we were learning. I went to a seminar that the local kennel club put on. You can find good info on websites as well. Try Jon-An, Cookie is great and has lots of good advise. I went to the show with the teacher of our handling class. It's alot of fun going with the class because we all support each other. One of the ladies did say that if she didn't have us to support her and talk to she probably wouldn't return because no one would talk to her. The show staff was very friendly and helpful, don't be afraid to ask questions. Take a support person and try a match first. It's alot of fun!  |
what a handsom little man! he'll get to 10 in no time! |
show Great news... He is AKC, so he will need much more then 10 single points..he will need two majors..and a bit tougher going in the US...but he looks like he is up to the job..LOL |
Congratulations. I'm so happy for you. Why are some people so snobish? why are some of the people on here so snobbish? some people feel they are the only ones qualified to do anything 'Yorkie". People who are happy with their own lives and accomplishments, are nice friendly people. All others fall into a different category. You have to liek yourself before you can like anyone else. |
Yorkie Snobs I don't know why some have to be snobs. I understand that yorkie people are trying to protect the breed from puppy mills and unethical or uninformed breeders. We want our yorkies to remain a strong breed, true to our heritage and looking like the breed standard. It's not easy to be the newbie in any field. They should get to know you and your motivation before judging you. I'm new at this, I adore the breed, I have a yorkie mentor who is knowledgable and well respected. Everyone had to start somewhere, why not support the newbies so that when the vets retire, we'll be here to carry on the banner?   |
I've never had that problem; every one has been so nice and helpful to me. I do have alot of friends in yorkies from my area, so we travel together quite a bit and are always so involved in our own little world of grooming that maybe I just haven't had time to notice any snobbies, lol! I was fortunate enough lately to meet a breeder that I've admired for a very long time. I just approached her when she wasn't busy and introduced myself. She and I ended up sitting down on the floor together and chatting for quite some time. Later on she actually popped in at my grooming area and we had another nice conversation. I show quite a bit with the UKC but have met tons of people there who show with AKC also, and when I have shown AKC I didn't encounter anything but friendly folks. (Met yet another breeder that I admired from a far at the last akc show I was at and she was totally sweet.) Maybe you've just been around some of them when they weren't having the best day...:D And I agree with you totally that us newbies are going to "carry the banner" someday to carry on the long timer's work and dedication when they are no longer able. One thing I've noticed since having a child in jr. showmanship is that the show people are truly good to their jr's and will go out of their way to help them. The organization as a whole knows that they are the future of the club; they are the next handlers, breeders, and supporters. Congrats on that point! I'm sure you are going to have many more! |
Congratulations!!!!! He is beautiful....Great Job, and don't worry about the snobby, they are just jealous that you got such a great dog and are starting out new......:) |
Congratulations!! He looks very nice! Nice body!! How many were at the show that weekend competing? Every show I have gone to the miniumn was 21 yorkies! Ugh!! And at least 3 handlers in the class I was showing. Your baby looks great and you should have a lot of fun showing him. T. |
It was just a small show. 3 dogs, 3 bitches, and 1 specialty dog. I'd love to attend a big show. Guess I'll have to go out of state for that because in this district you only need 9 dogs for a 3 pt. major. |
Congrats on your win.Yes some people can be SNOBS- I have ran into some of them myself. one day we will have to compare notes. :D and i have also meet some very wonderful people- who I have become friends with.Oh my gosh. i am moving to Virginia. it seems i pick a small show- and everybody else does also- then it turns into a major show. Do not let them SNOBS get to you- there is some very nice people out there.:) |
Big Congrats, I remember that feeling of the first point!! very special moment indeed. Keep smiling and have a great time. You are off to a great start. He looks very nice. Looking forward to hearing more on your progress with Connor Deana Prestigeous Yorkies:aimeeyork |
