YTCA Roving Specialty - San Antonio, TX How many YT members will be going? I am really excited about seeing all the beautiful yorkies and meeting many of my yorkie friends. Here is a link to the judging schedule for those of you who might not know about the shows. http://www.onofrio.com/jp/RCIS1JP.pdf The YTCA specialty will be on Wednesday, July 13, in San Antonio, Texas. This show will be held in conjunction with a lot of other shows running from Wednesday through Sunday. There are lots of yorkies entered. On Wednesday the Toy Club is holding their show first. The yorkies show at 9 a.m. Their are 67 yorkies entered. Then at 1 p.m. the yorkie specialty will start. There are 83 yorkies entered. Best of luck to all my yorkies friends that are showing!!!! I wish I could stay all 5 days but I will only be able to go to the two shows on Wednesday. |
I'll be there! London is entered in every show all five days. Should be a lot of fun and tiring too. Looking forward to the Roving and seeing all the beautiful Yorkies! |
Good luck to all my friends showing in San Antonio, I wish I was able to make it for the shows but My girls are only 4 months old. |
Mary and I will be there too. Can't wait to see everyone |
Good luck y'all! Cannot wait to hear all about it! |
I won't be able to be there for this one since I planned to go to Houston for the Specialty in August. However my boy Lance (Little T's Royale) will be there showing and hopefully finishing his championship. Wishing everyone luck and I hope to see many of you in Houston. |
Results??? I know how Michele and London did (awesome!!), but I'll let her give details. |
So excited!! Just heard some FANTASTIC news about my favorite breeder!! |
Only news I've heard today was that Lorraine Hays took BOB with Jackpot! That's all the news I needed to hear to make my day! Love them both!! |
My Celie got 1st place at the Toy Show and 1st at the specialty in her class on Wed. And today in sweeps got 2nd in sweeps and then 1st in her regular puppy class!! She's done very well so far here in San Antonio!! Very happy! |

I have to admit, I'm pretty disapointed with the results from the National and toy/all breed shows going on right now. I couldn't understand the judging and there didn't seem to be any consistency in the winners. I've seen Jackpot in person and I just cant understand the hype. He's a nice dog but there is nothing "above and beyond about him." IMHO I think he has the minimum qualities any Yorkie should have if the are going to be campaigned. Also, his coat seems to be silver in the middle and black on the sides. I don't see the blue. When I watched the video of Westminster I was a bit appalled at his movement too. I watched the video of the national yesterday and there were some good dogs in it but the overall quality wasnt at the par of say, the New York show. I was quite shocked to see how many dogs there had off toplines. In my experience, I've always been told that second to coat, the most basic thing a dog should have is a level topline. Anyways, that is just my $0.02. |
Wow --- interesting. Quote:
BTW - Welcome to Yorkietalk! :) |
Oh, one more thing. I watched L. Hays walk Jackpot and I must say that I was extremely impressed with the way she walks him! She was kind and gentle with him. That dog looked at her and never took his eyes off of her. There was NO pulling, dragging, or jerking. It was a pleasure to see someone who loves her dog as much as the dog loves her. It was obvious that the Jackpot wanted to perform and please her. After watching some of the professional handlers walk their clients' dogs - I'd be very careful choosing one. Several had puppies that they were literally dragging around. Some of the same ones were walking older dogs and were pulling up on the leash so hard their front legs were up off the ground and their heads/necks were held up too high - which I believe isn't good for their throats. It actually upset me watching them! And these are well known handlers!!! To be honest - the best handlers were the owner/handlers - hands down! |
CJ125--I was just expressing my opinion. I hope that you or anyone else does not take offense to it. My dogs all come from very reputable breeders in the Yorkie world--2 of them are directly from Canada. I don't want to start a "my dog is better than yours" debate because that is silly and not what this is about. Long story short, I've been in and out of the ring for the past 40 years with various breeds of dogs (not Yorkies). I've been lucky enough to produce and handle some amazing dogs that have done extremely well in AKC shows. I know enough about dogs to know what a well-moving dog looks like of any breed. I retired from showing dogs 10 years ago because the travel and physical demands (getting old isn't for sissies) but I still go to a show here and there to see what is out there. I've been attending the National and regional in NYC for the past 5 years and have had the pleasure to see some breathtaking Yorkies. To address your points: "Every judge seems to have their own idea of what they think a breed should look like while staying within the breed description. I think this is true of any sport." Yes, this is true however when there is no consistency in the judging it makes one wonder if the judge really has a type he is looking for. Once again you're using a video to evaluate a dog - not very accurate if you ask me. Even watching from the sideline doesn't always give you an accurate picture of these dogs walking. That's why judges have them walk together and then seperately. I have seen the dog 2 years in a row at NY and even at the last National in February. I am not saying he moves bad all the time but watching the Westminster video I was appalled. There were so many nice dogs in that ring that moved much better than he did that day. Tha'ts all I am saying. Topline is second to coat? I have to disagree with that. Topline is more important than coat. While coat color is important it is NO where near as important as structure. The color of their coat and even texture has been somewhat hard to achieve consistantly and what I would call cosmetic while topline (structure) is essential. I too agree, but according to the standard the coat is "of prime importance." I'd take structure over coat any day of the week but alas, I did not write the standard. All I am saying is that I don't see the hype about the dog that is idolized on this board. Sure, it is a nice dog but there are definitely some better dogs out there that are unsung by the show people on here. After all, I guess it is just the YTers opinions on here and there don't seem to be too many people on here that show. |
:mad:It's hard not to take offense when words like "appalled" and "shocked" and other very strong adjectives are thrown about. Perhaps another thread could be started wherein novice Yorkie wanna be judges & YT Newbie enthusiasts could express their concerns over the judging. I for one will leave it to the experts. It's disappointing that a rah rah thread took a turn. I came here today to get excited about more results for the people I love and respect on this forum and instead feel I like somebody just kicked me in the shins. BTW, congratulations Thetis, Michele, Donna and Lorraine! Can't wait to see more results (AND PHOTOS)!!:D Oh, just my 2 cents. |

At any rate, I've said all I need to. Just doing my part to make sure the general public knows there are 2 sides to every story. Oh, and btw TexasKate, I was previously licensed to judge 36 breeds including the Non-Sporting group. |
I started to respond to her comments earlier, but instead decided to just walk away...Comments like that are not worth a response. Congratulations to all the winners...and to Lorraine who also took a Group 3 that day. Wish I had been there to celebrate with everyone. |

I Am gonna be a bi$ch and say WOW!! A positive thread once again goes south!! Why can't some be able to share their joy and love for their favorite yorkie that was being shown without negative responses! If you have a different opinion start your own thread and Leave the positive one alone... Donna |

Anyway, I'm having a great time in San Antonio!! There ARE some very nice yorkies here and I really enjoyed my first national specialty. I'm so proud of my London because she has shown really well for me this week. There are some really nice puppies in her class. Wednesday she won her class in the toy show and then got third in her class at the national. Thursday she got third in her class in sweeps and same in regular classes. And today she won her class!! So now we've got two more days to go. When I can get on my computer I will post some good photos that were taken of London and me this week. |
Well I will also have to say WOW! I am reading this while we are on our way home from San Antonio, where I had the pleasure of watching Jackpot shine up close and personal. What well deserved wins for him. And obviously others that were there felt the same way since different judges chose to put him up as best in breed two days in a row. And a group 3 both days as well This boy showed his heart out for Lorraine! As for my Righteous, I am so proud of him. He did not come home with any blue ribbons, but he improved each time he showed, taking 4th at the YTCA National show, 3rd in his class in the Puppy Sweepstakes, and 2cnd in his class in the toy show. I couldn't be more proud of him. He is learning more each time he shows and is making his breeder proud. |
I was hoping to upload a picture but am on my iPhone and haven't figured out how to do that on here yet. I have a couple uploaded on my fb page though |
