Does anyone use/like any of the Vellus products? I just bought some and I am wondering which ones you like or dislike and why. Thank you. :)

I recently bought the Vellus Satin Creme. I like it very much. It adds shine and smells good. I use it just before brushing.

I do not like the application procedure of the satin creme. I dislike the price too. I feel like I have to use alot of product. I don't want to think about the cost as I'm using something. I like both of these. I'm not sure the cost is worth the benefit.

the jar of satin cream lasts me a LONG time. I probably use it differently than most. I put just a dab in my hand and rub my hands together and use it as a smoothing cream for the short hairs along the top line with Radar as he has some small breakage and it works good to keep his coat from flying away LOL...

I also use it on the top knot after I show as to help get the hair spray out while I band his top knot for when I go home. So the jar lasts me forever. I just bought my new jar after the last one has lasted me over six to 8 months. So the cost is worth it to me.

I was talking about wrapping.

I don't use the satin cream for wrapping, I use it for other things and that's why I love it and can justify the cost because I use very little of it :)

Love the satin cream. Use it for the topknot, when I take out from showday, or daily when I rewrap topknot. Also use for moustaches. It does remove hairspray from hairs.

Antistatic spray I use at show. Good Product. Truly keeps static down.

Not too keen on their s&c.

Gail I am not to fond of the S&C either so am looking for something else to use. However I do use the Satin creme ans static stabilizer for wrapping and daily use. When I wrap I do the initial wrapping using the creme and then the stabilizer for daily rewrapping. I have to say that the condition of the coat when I use it is worth far more to me than the price of the satin creme.

I'm a Vellus junkie...I do love all their products and I do use the satin cream from wrapping since I don't use oils. I do make the shampoo and conditioner just a bit stronger than suggested and love it :)

You might want to try Isle of Dogs and or ISB Iv Saint Bernard. I particularly like IOD, I think I have a thread in the Grooming section, where I gave out the instructions that I received in Kentucky from an expert on their products. I've just recently purchased the IOD Royal Jelly Shampoo and am going to use this wkend. Running very very close is ISB - their mink oil, and PEK can be particularly usefull. I actually use the PEK on my blackies beards, and it really really works well on their heavy duty mats.

For the conditioner my still favourite is Biogroom Silk - can't really describe why. I also have a special conditioner for the topknot - but it is from Latvia so I can't even read the name. lol

IOD heavy duty conditioner #51 was wonderfull when we were swimming a few times a week. I acually wrapped him in this a few times prior to going in swimming, and it was a breeze, to bathe him afterwards and rewrap.

It is a little heavy right now for his coat, but as winter approaches and it gets drier in the house, and he just loves to find a heat vent to lay over, I'm sure I;ll be pulling that out again.:D

IOD has a superb product call Lift, it is a very light hair spray, but without the tackiness of hairspray. You can build volumne with this, and last wk end I use to set topknot. Pretty pleased with that.
The other thing you can do is if you go to a show to buy products you can ask for a sample of other products you'd like to try out;)
IOD I am using their conditioning spray to brush before rewrapping. I quite like that, I also use on blackies beards, and I find a real improvement in their beard quality.

I also started saving my waterbottles, that have the pull out top, to use as mixing bottles for dilution. They are just the right size. Also as I'm going to New York, I can put product in bottles then mix up when I arrive:)

Thanks Gail, I am planning on picking up some IOD shampoo and Conditioner. I have the conditioning spray and the primrose oil spray. I am also going to pick up the royal jelly supplement. The Pek works great on Friday but not so good on Cruz. Different hair types.

I'm addicted to oil. I have to see and feel it to know it's there. I don't think the satin creme works better. It's nice to have a product that works for in between. Not sure if I said on this thread, I like how it feels rinsing out better than anything. I've just tried to use it like oil. It's not supposed to be. I can't live without oil. I have to have it.

We use marked measuring bottles. I prefer a flip lid over a pull out.

I have the espree mixing bottles that are flip top and measuring lines, but I find them annoying, they are too large in circumference for my single hand I have to use two hands. I'm keeping my eye open for another type that is smaller .. however my hand is rather small so maybe others won't have that problem.

The only small ones I know of are too small for my liking. You can get them at at Amazon or any beauty supply store. They are 8oz. Very small. Do you know which ones I'm referring to?

Sookie just want to add, you are going to get lots of wonderful advice, but remember what works for one dog may not work as well for another as I am sure you've read already. My advice is get smaller sizes of the products you want to use or ask around for samples from people that use the products you are wanting to try. That way in the long run it saves you money and you don't end up with a cupboard or cabinet full of products you don't use.

Thanks. I got the sample pack yesterday of shampoo, conditioner, satin creme, static control, etc. and now I can try them all out!! :)

Just in case you have to try something else. Pure paws also has a trial size. Isle of Dog also has samples.

Where did you get the samples? I only have the Vellus Cream. I did get samples of BioGroom and it is terrific!

I live in South Jersey just over the bridge from Philly. Our club holds most of its' meetings in Pottstown and most of the members live in PA. So, I spend quite a bit of time there. I grew up in Philly. :)

Yes, I do use Vellus on both of mine. I have the satin creme,but don't use it often mostly at shows.

I use the anti-stat daily for brushing Beatrice, she has allergies and it doesn't bother her.

I use a mix of 4 oz. of water and a very small amount of Neutragena body oil and a very small amount of Vellus show conditioner ( maybe a 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of each) on Sebastien after I rinse out the conditioner. I pour it all over him and leave it in. Then I just let him air dry and when he's dry I wrap him. It works super well on him. Doesn't bother his skin, it always feels and looks great.

Thanks for the info. So you don't use the creme for wrapping? That's the main reason I bought it. I have never wrapped but I'm going to start soon on Gidget.

No, I tried it once for wrapping, but I prefer my mixture instead. I use it like Donna does for smoothing stray hairs before going into the ring.

Many people like it for wrapping though,so if you start wrapping with it you'll probably love it.

I was reading through this post about the products and this jumped out at me because my mom is Latvian. Are you also? Or do you just use Latvian topknot conditioner? I would love to know how you get it... Ancient Latvian secret? LOL
