I don't think you have to explain yourself.....sometimes your Russion interferes with your English. I understand that very well. I was born in the USA, and my parents were too. But, when I started school I knew not one word of English. Spanish was spoke at home.....So, I for one can understand how one language can interfere with the other....you think in one and speak in the other......gets really mixed up.

Actually this is common misconception. Australia is *not* all outback and we don't all talk like bogans. I've never heard anyone other than crocodile dundee and Steve Irwin talk like that. I do live in the bush but it's really not as common as people seem to think.

Words we actually do use are biscuit (cookie) nappy (diaper) primary school (elementary school) university (college) etc.

I really disliked Steve Irwin because he perpetuate this ridiculous stereotype.

JeanieK, I has asked you to keep those questions to PM. Last question I am happy to answer. I live in Victoria, central Victoria in the bush. The closest city in Bendigo.

It does very much so! As you know mood and if tired etc has huge effect. If I'm trying hard it sounds lots better.

:( I, personally, love and respect Steve Irwin and feel that he was not a "stereotype"....VERY true to the culture of Australia.

I respect him for his work with animals, but if you ever come to Australia, you will see he was far more popular in America than he here because people didn't like the yes, stereotype he encouraged. Steve Irwin was very marketable.

The true culture of Australia goes back to the aboriginals, and visiting their land is amazing experience. My class (before I homeschooled) went on trip and we got to see traditional aboriginal dances and saw a man play the digeridoo. The boys all got to have a go. Was so cool! There's a wonderful movie called Rabbit Proof Fence, if it in America I recommend you watch!

Me too The australian actors and singers talk like that too. Kind of funny how they sound so American when performing but in interviews they speak Australian. I love to listen to Kieth Urban talk.

Well everyone is entitled to own opinion. I personally believe it is marketable to be 'a true blue Aussie mate.' ;)

Anyway, I am so excited for new venture and I truly hope one day I can come onto YT and say look at my ANKC champion! :D

I do understand what you are saying. My ethnic background is from Spain, never been. But, we did have a Foreign Exchange Student living with us and he was very upset about American's concept of Spain....Bull Fights, Flamenco Dancing....explained this was not what Spain was about.

Do you even realize what all Steve Irwin did for Australia? Even after his death, his work continues. I cannot/will not say something negative about someone that, first of all, had such a great hand in animal rehab, education, compassion....I think highly of his passion and love for Australia...for the culture that you say he was none of.

You do not have to agree with me, but atleast try to respect the fact that he is deceased.

Read the post below. I has no issue with the man personally but I never agree with his international persona. I certainly respect the charity he does. Yes, he is deceased. I still don't agree that he was the 'true Australian.' He wasn't. He good man who enthusiastic about animal. Like I said, he far more popular in your country than mine. I don't share your passion, and that all I will say on the matter it is totally irrelevant.

Yes stereotype is very upsetting and very dangerous. People need to remember the kind of damage labeling a whole community can do.

Wow! This is a thread about Disney's excitement in begining her journey.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to get upset over a person's view. Disney lives in Australia and I think has a better understanding on how Australians feel about how other's percieve them....

Hmmmm, okay Mary. Just so disappointing to see that she's disrespecting another person with the pretense of it being an opinion, is just fine with everyone. I don't get it, but whatever...please proceed. I'm off to look at Yorkie pictures.

Disney, good luck with your "mentor"...did you happen to mention who this lucky person is...I guess I missed that part in your posts.

Oh, and I must commend you....your use of the English language is fabulous and also the fact that you not only use correct English, but also have such a mature usage of our language.....very well done for an 18 year old Russian/Australian.
