I agree and it has always bothered me when I see breeders and people on here refer people to breeders when they have never been to the persons home, have never seen any of the dogs in person, don't really understand their breeding practices and many breeders have this silent code of conduct that you keep your mouth shut about other poor breeders.

I have watched members of clubs tell people to only go to members in their clubs because it helps the members and not the dogs. I have watched people say all the right things here on YT and they are running puppymills (I have proof on one) and I just think it is sad.

Absolutely correct. But, the best we can do is educate, teach people how to spot those unethical breeders. I understand some families have had a good experience with a certain breeder, but one shouldn't refer a breeder based on one experience.

I will say there is an unwritten law that we don't allow fellow exhibitors to be chastised in public, however, if necessary, matters are taken care of behind close doors.

But as far as breeder referral, one should have the potential new owner's as well as the puppy's welfare at heart.

I know of at least two more YTCA members that are also here on YT. One also a member of Bluebonnet, the other, I'm not sure.
I am a member of Bluebonnet and have been invited to join YTCA. Just waiting on paperwork and a visit....I think their code of ethics and code of conduct should be followed by everyone, member or not, but we all know how that goes....sadly..

Thanks for all of the information. We are planning on our first show in January in Alexandria, La. There is one show before that, but, I want to make sure that Sasha is ready. She is really coming along with strangers putting their hands on her. I just hope that she carries her confidence on the judging table. I will be meeting with a former Yorkie exhibitor in a week or two for her to critique Sasha and my handling. I'm sure that will help us to overcome our shortfalls. I think that I will wait to join the Houston Club after January. I would feel more confident after completing our first show to join. I don't know if I will need references to join or not. I will also try to meet some of the other exhibitors that are at the January show that are also member of the Houston Club. They may be able to tell me how the Club works. Would it be the corresponding secretary that I contact to see how becoming a member works? Also, Sasha's birthday in April 18th of this year. The Alexandria show is on Jan 30th. The entry date is the 13th. Does her age refer to the cut-off entry date? 6-9months or the actual show date? 9-12months. If she would be entered as 9-12 months, is there harder competition? Or do the judges still let "puppy mistakes" pass?

Her actual age at the day of the show. 6-9 months judges are more forgiving. 9-12 months they expect a bit more.....It's when you put her in open that judges are not forgiving at all.....coat, handling, behavior should be all there.

If this is your first time there is a new class I think it's called novice or beginner or something like that. Go to the AKC website, it should explain it there and give you all the rules and requirements

Contact the President or Secretary of the Club for info on joining, but, you will require recommendation by someone. That's pretty much standard in all regional clubs.
