YTCA meber or not? I'm addicted to this site and do read lots of different threads during the day. I have visited the YTCA website numerous times to get information also. I was wondering how many of you that show or breed are YTCA members? Why or Why not? |

I am not yet, but would like to be. I live so far away out in the country. No, local club in my state either. I am a member of my local all breed AKC club. I do agree with you both. It is so important. I was a member of the branch in So. Fl. years ago. We had a lot of fun and it was a great place to learn. Donna, best of luck! See you tomorrow. I have to leave after work, so will take me awhile - getting there very late tonight. |
Thank you all for your replys. I do believe in the code of ethics by the YTCA. I'm glad that you are happy with the club. I have heard stories that not all clubs are as they show on the website. I'm glad that YTCA has happy members that are glad to be part of the club. I look forward to joining. I live in south Louisiana and after researching, it looks like Bluebonnet and the Houston Yorkie Clubs are the closest to me. Houston is about a 4 hr. drive. I will email the secretary to see what is involved and how many meetings I must attend to be an active member. I know that I would have to help with the local shows. Good Luck to anyone showing this weekend!!!!!!!! |

There is good in bad in every club.....however, as in everything else it's what you put into it. However, YTCA is the mother club. Donna and I are both members of Bluebonnet. You may wonder why since I live in California. I moved here from Dallas, and Bluebonnet is my home club and always will be. Even from this great a distance I'm still very involved with Bluebonnet, and have handled the trophies for the last 5 years. Both of us know many people in the Houston Club. Being you're out of the area joining a regional club is not as involved, you are not required to attend so many meetings prior to being voted in. But, you will be somewhat checked out and will require sponsors. The one draw back being along distance member of a regional club is you do not have any voting power. A bit different with YTCA. YTCA is a bit more involved, it is handled a bit different and somewhat requires you to be invited into the club. 2 Sponsers that have known you for a period of no less than 2 years with one having visited your home recently. |

In addition the YTCA has a breeder referral person that one can contact, that person knows where to send people. |

I know that when I refer people to specific breeders I am very familiar with their breeding practices and always prescreen potential new families before referring them. When I send people to YTCA.org,it's up to the person to do their homework from there. Being a member of YTCA or a regional club and getting on their referral list is not the main purpose of members. Since most members are exhibitors first and primarily breed for themselves. So, when people are looking for pup from a YTCA member, it's pretty much hit or miss....since we breed minimally and don't always have puppies available....Same with most regional clubs. |

I have watched members of clubs tell people to only go to members in their clubs because it helps the members and not the dogs. I have watched people say all the right things here on YT and they are running puppymills (I have proof on one) and I just think it is sad. So again thanks ... |

I will say there is an unwritten law that we don't allow fellow exhibitors to be chastised in public, however, if necessary, matters are taken care of behind close doors. But as far as breeder referral, one should have the potential new owner's as well as the puppy's welfare at heart. |
I know of at least two more YTCA members that are also here on YT. One also a member of Bluebonnet, the other, I'm not sure. I am a member of Bluebonnet and have been invited to join YTCA. Just waiting on paperwork and a visit....I think their code of ethics and code of conduct should be followed by everyone, member or not, but we all know how that goes....sadly.. |

Thanks for all of the information. We are planning on our first show in January in Alexandria, La. There is one show before that, but, I want to make sure that Sasha is ready. She is really coming along with strangers putting their hands on her. I just hope that she carries her confidence on the judging table. I will be meeting with a former Yorkie exhibitor in a week or two for her to critique Sasha and my handling. I'm sure that will help us to overcome our shortfalls. I think that I will wait to join the Houston Club after January. I would feel more confident after completing our first show to join. I don't know if I will need references to join or not. I will also try to meet some of the other exhibitors that are at the January show that are also member of the Houston Club. They may be able to tell me how the Club works. Would it be the corresponding secretary that I contact to see how becoming a member works? Also, Sasha's birthday in April 18th of this year. The Alexandria show is on Jan 30th. The entry date is the 13th. Does her age refer to the cut-off entry date? 6-9months or the actual show date? 9-12months. If she would be entered as 9-12 months, is there harder competition? Or do the judges still let "puppy mistakes" pass? Thanks, KaylaB |

If this is your first time there is a new class I think it's called novice or beginner or something like that. Go to the AKC website, it should explain it there and give you all the rules and requirements Contact the President or Secretary of the Club for info on joining, but, you will require recommendation by someone. That's pretty much standard in all regional clubs. |
Thanks. Will do. |
