dog show aka Days of our lifes to start with yes this may be a rant but omg If I stand behind one more person and here them bad mouth my dog .. to tell you the truth No wonder there are not alot of new handlers in this breed. I have just started showing dogs and I have watched Profesional handler knock yorkies off groom tables and thank god it was strung up by its lead And not smashed into the concret floor. I keep thinking whats sportsmanship .. it dosnt start and end with a congradulations to the winner or a Thank you from the winner .. I have spent the past two days begging my other half into not scratching my scooter from our next few shows .. and not due to winning or loosing but due to crud I think IM gonna bring earphones to add to my groom bag .. you know the thought process you can talk about me but dont you talk about my mom .. same gos for my fur kids.I honestly took away from winning breed monday I showed horses for 15 years and never anything like this ..well a few fist fights but that was always over some man .. end of rant .. |
posting on my own post LOL OK I am over it dark glooming feeling is gone I will find the positive peps and enjoy the shows |

Sorry you had such a bad experience, but give it time and things will get better. Like anything or anywhere - there is good and bad. I have met only a few people that I did not like, but have met a lot of very nice and supportive poeple. Many of my best friends are show people. They are very kind and thoughtful and glad I show, so was able to meet them. I have also met some very nice handlers and they are very kind to the dogs they show. If you watched them and did not know they were a handler, you would think the dog/s were their own. I have seen them talk sweetly to them, give them a lot of attention, play with them, and spoil them. So just give it time and you will see. T. |
The comments about one of my dogs just challenged me. She is now a champion. I ran into one of the judges that didn't like my dark girl. never put her up and talked "like a dog" about her to another exhibitor that happened to be my friend. This was last year right after that dog got her championship so of course I made enough friendly talk with him just to rub my championship in his face LOl but he made a remark to me that yorkie exhibtors are the creulest, backbitingist people in the show world and commended me for keeping on with her. he used to show yorkies himself. |
I've seen and heard so many snotty comments about my baby I' can't imagine showing them. I know i'd be arrested for punching someone out who made a nasty comment about mine. :) |
Showing is not for the faint hearted and you must have thick skin or develop scales. However, if you remember what we show for; To Gain Approval Of Our Breeding Stock, this will keep you focused on your goal and your mind off the politics that go hand in hand with most everything we do. I've had the wonderful experience of showing yorkies in the Central and Southern US, and showing there is a pleasure. Yes, there is a competitive spirit, but when the showing is done we all travel, room, and socialize together. All yorkie exhibitors set up together and help one another. |
Showing dogs isn't for the faint hearted that's for sure! You have to have thick skin, learn to shake it off and at the end of the day we all go out and have dinner and have a good time! Maltese exhibitors I hear are worse than yorkie exhibitors LOL... I'm getting started in handling so I won't ever have to send my dogs off to a handler so I can take care of my own dogs and hopefully give someone else that entrusts me with their dogs that a handler truely cares for the dogs in their keep :) Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

Puppies and the restless I painted a bad picture of dog shows .. I only pointed out the neg .. there are some great aspects .. and alot of kind ppl who have gone out of there way to be nice to me and give me pointer and I have made some friends .. as I said it was a.. Ugly moments and that person knocking the yorkie off the table just put me in a bad mind set I love to show and its alot of fun also ..and I tend to be more positive that was just a weak moment  |
