I am sorry I quess I am the only person that has never heard of a yorkie being sold for these prices. It is just out of this world to me.

i talked to colleen last night and she is just numb
she lost 5 more and they are praying they can save the rest
i have several crosswind dogs and my chaz is the love of my life i can not even start to imagine what she is going threw

she told me the fire dept is pretty sure it was lighting that hit her building but they did save her home she had no insurance
she lost her grooming building as well

Various breeds ranging from $450 to $19,000 and a recent dog sold for $40,000..no insurance, no monitatored fire alarm, no kennel attentant..I feel very badly for these lost animals.

I just got done reading all of this. It is very horrible for all, humans and dogs.:( I cant even imagine the pain the owner is going thru.
That being said, if I had 19000 dollar dogs or one dollar dogs in my kennel that I worked 30+ years to build, I would surely have insured the building and the animals. I really do think that the lack of insurance is very odd as this must have been a business for Crosswinds or at least a hobby that they loved.
Its so sad. Insurance or not, nothing will take away her pain and grief. I hope the owner has many friends to lean on in her time of need. I feel so bad for those little dogs.

Its a small relaxed town. Very different mentality than living in the city. Who needs insurance when you have a whole town looking after your property. I dont even know this poor lady, this is just my opionion. I think the town population is less than 1000 people. Her contract is very professinal and so is her website.

The question was asked why she didnt have insurance. I was just stating my opionion.

I live in a small "relaxed" town but I have insurance. It breaks my heart those poor babies and the pain and suffering they had to go through what a tragic, painful event for anyone.
Insurance, doesn't matter what size town you live in, nothing can help that kind of tradegy in one's life.
But I will say this...if you are getting that kind of money for your show dogs I really believe you could afford insurance :(
My heart goes out to anyone that has to suffer any kind of loss of life in a fire so devasting! Prayers to all...

Living in Texas until two years ago, I know several exhibitor/breeders that live in small towns in OK and TX that have their dogs insured, their homes monitored for electrical outages, fires, and security. Most have back up generators for those outages that happen almost always because of storms. And kennel help is brought in when they are away at shows. So, I don't think it has anything to do with country towns, but more on personal preferances.

Yes, this is very sad and devasting no matter how you look at it!

This doesn't show that all show breeders are in it for the money you are getting information from an unreliable source, you know the news media loves to exaggerate and inflate a story to make it newsworthy...No one knows how much she actually gets for her dogs except for her. If you don't know her then you really don't know how much money she gets...but this is beside the point and shouldn't even be in the equation because of the travisty of losing precious living creatures.

let me clarify a few things

she thought she had insurance but threw negligence of her book keeper who handles things for her the insurance did not get paid she did have it at one point there were personal things in her life that went wrong and forced her to go back to work 6 days a week and from what i understand lighting hit and the fire was started i know even if i was hit and i have fire alarms it would take the fire dept at least 15 minutes or so to get to me how long would it take them to get to you?
as i live in the country and i feel all would be lost and i have insurance and there are times when i am away from home there is not someone watching over my home 24/7
but having insurance would not save my babies!!to me it does not matter what colleen had or did not have
it is just very sad that all these babies died and she is doing all she can to save the remaining few

i think that was several years ago
she had gone from a show kennel of a large amount of dogs down to around 40 and she told me she was still cutting back and that she had someone coming in everyday for several hours to help with the care of her dogs
i know of a few kennels in texas and other area's that have way more than 40 and i do not think having insurance or fire detectors would save them either it would depend on how fast the fire dept got there and the fire was just not the deadly factor as smoke kills faster and a lot of small towns work on volunteer fire depts
i just would really hate to see this happen to anyone weather it be a show kennel
a pet owner a back yard breeder etc i feel sad for all
as these babies did not deserve to go this way
it amazes me as to how quick people judge others
and this lady is going threw hell right now
does it really matter weather she was liked or disliked?
she needs a lot of prayers and everybody is judging her for not having insurance or what she sold dogs for 10 years or so ago all i can say is wow what is this world coming too!
