What do you think of this 81/2 week old face? She is still under 3 pounds and has a little strut. Give me your honest opinion

Thanks for all the encouragement. She's a little squirmy to get a full shot, but I am working on it. She's a little thing. I am planning to do baths tonight and ears this weekend. The go get their shots tomorrow night <pout>

I am hoping I have a show hopeful in this litter, they are all so different! The smallest boy is so cute, but he has a cobby little body. She definitely has the attitude. I will work on getting better pics of her. I have started training this week a little.

She has the cutest little teddy bear face. I was just curious. When your looking for show quality, what exactly are you looking for in a puppy? To me they are all absolutely perfect.

This is where going to shows and studying the yorkie standard comes in. There are so many things that have to come together to make a show dog. Of course they have to have a proper silky coat, but they also need to have a balanced body, legs not too short or not to long, The body should be fairly square. The tail set and ear set are important. A good topline (level back) is very important. The front feet should not toe out a lot, the chest should not be real narrow. The rear legs should have proper angulation. If a dog has straight stifles or is cow hocked the dog won't have the proper drive and movement. Head carriage is also important as is personality. Many of theses things you can't really tell for sure on a young puppy. If you are interested in showing then I think it would be very important for you to meet someone that is experienced in showing and get them to evaluate your puppy. I will be looking forward to seeing more pictures of your little girl.

You guys are all always so helpful. I have a wonderful mentor here and she does have a level topline. not sure about her coat yet. it is very silky and has a nice texture, but hard to tell so young as my un-akc girl is now very cottony and mama is heavy silk and daddy is fine silk. Daddy has some flaws, but I understand that a good judge should be looking at all underneath and not just the color and coat, so she feels solid, but then again the larger female in the litter has a bigger body and a bit of a wiggle when she trots. Fuschia has a nice spirited gait.

The legs I need to study up on and I am watching them all as they tear around the kitchen several times a day, but I have a very lot to learn too and handling petrifies me even though I almost showed Ceasar at the match last summer, but the weather interfered. I have joined the local kennel club and have been thrown into the secretary position, but alas there are no yorkie people in my area. I am going to try to make the York County Kennel Club event in a few months with someone, just to get my feet wet. do you think I should start with the small stuff? or just dive in?

I would just about bet because of her pretty blue eyes that she will have a silky coat. Does she have champion bloodline? It is great that you are in a kennel club. Anyone that is knowledgeable about dogs, especially toys dogs should be able to help you. It is great that you have a mentor. It would be great if you could just go to some handling or conformation classes then just jump in to showing. You have to get your feet wet sooner or later. I love showing puppies (if they are trained ). Best of luck to you.

I'm not interested in showing. That has to take lots of knowledge, dedication and time. My Piper is just a pet and already spayed. I was just curious of what you look for in a young puppy to determine whether they are show quality or not. Thanks for the explanation it was very informative.
