supplement for growing show coat is there some kind of product or food or concoction to make that will help the hair grow faster or make it look better. i have heard of something with peanut butter and other stuff in it and its supposed to do wodners for the coat. emma is 10 months old today and her coat is a little slow growing. it is silky and has the correct coloring just slow at growing. is there anything i can do to speed it up. also her hair is a little thin. i have heard once there full coat grown in it will thicken up yet i have also been told that it will always be thin. |
I think that there is a good recipe on Lowchens of Austrailia: how to grow hair on a door knob. Also, genetics plays a major roll in hair gowth as well. |

anyway, what i use is solid gold's seameal with flax seed and mix it to their meal. honestly there was something good happening with the coats of my yorkies. they grow faster. reeses had silvery coat on his upper legs and the color darkened... see... Honey, Peanut butter, MirraCoat and Pet Tinic. I have never used it, but another exhibitor I know really likes it. I read somehwere that flax seed/oil is not good for dogs. I could be mistakened though. |
I will have to try your recipe though as I could use darker hair on my dogs and me!!LOL |

I make the peanut butter balls and put Norwegian Sea Kelp in them, the dogs love them! |

I have read that milled flax seed is very good for the skin, and hair. It must be milled, or otherwise dogs can't digest the seed. Oil works as well, but doesn't have the added benifit of aiding in disgestion. Two products that contain milled flax seed are Missing Link, The Missing Link Canine Formula Super Food Supplement at PETCO, and a product made by Summerwinds called Healthy Coat. Summerwinds - Suppliments. I don't know if either one of them work. |
I just want to add, I've used both on Joey, and and Joey does have great hair, but I don't know if it's due to the product. The main reason I like it is because I take a human brand of milled flax seed, and I notice the difference on me. |
A breeder told me once that glucosamine supplements actually worked wonders for coat growth, in addition to having other benefits as well. I had to grow a coat back on one of mine and it definately did grow back alot quicker than I'd expected. Of course, it's not the only supplement that I use, so I really don't know if it was from that, or one of the other ones. |
I use kelp, is the seameal simular or the same thing? |

this is just what i want to know..my Gracie has a very fine and slow growing coat and I think i am gonna try the peanut butter, mirra coat, and pet tinic formula one. Just fount the recipe and I am gonna try it..lol |

i just got all the ingredients orderered and in last week. i looked at a bunch of different websites and i found that kv pet supply has the best deals, plus free shipping i got the order in like 3 days. i made eveerything and have been feeding it to her for about a week, so hopefully ill start to see results too. i cant believe how much it made i'll have it for a year it made so much. she absolutly loves it too. |
Was yours thick and gooey or was it kind of runny? I only made 1/4 of the recipe. I would hate to have so much sitting in the fridge. Myra |
it was kind of gooey and not too think.; i definitly thought it would ahev beent hicker. once i put it in the fridge though it has hardened up some. since it made so much i decdied to freeze in ziplocks so hopefully it will be alright after its thawed. |
ok after refrigeration it gets a bit thicker. I added some sea meal to it. (just a bit) and she is eating it just fine. Been 2 days so far. Hope I see results, how long before I should see something good happening? Myra |
Doesn't one pint of pet tinic seem a bit much? I just looked at vet america on ordering some and they come in 4 oz. So I would have to buy 4 bottles of this? That would be $40 for just the one ingredient. It just seems like a bit too much.:confused: Anyone have a smaller condensed recipe of this? |
I don't use pet tonic, I sue Mirra coat Omega 3, and ground up Pet Tabs. |
this is what i used 1 lb real peanut butter 1 lb honey 16 oz linatone plus (10.49 on kv vet) 1 pound mirra coat powder. ($ 5.59 on kv vet) i bought the last 2 ingredients on kv vet supply. they shipped really fast, were affordable and shipping was also free. it did make tons so if you want i would either cut everything in half or quarters |
i just bought all the ingredients! Can't wait to give it a try! |
