Looking to put a dog show/grooming prep room together
 
Any suggestion? Anyone else have a special room for this? Pictures? I need some ideas...i am totally serious about showing...hehe...of course once i get all the steps down with everyone help and word of wisdows. hehe

you will be doing most of your show grooming in the hotel and touching it up at ringside.

hehe...thanks for the info....but during the time at home...where do you do it at...to keep their coat up and all that showing pretty stuff...hehe...

and i see that people iron their yorkies hair...can you tell me what that means?

mine is right in what was my living room before the dogs took over. Then I just fold it down and take it to the shows with me. i don't have a lot of stuff right now since i just started showing. I don't wrap my girls coat but i do put her in oil a lot. I use a flat iron to iron her hair only right before a show actually at the motel the morning of the show to get rid of a little wave she has at thee bottom.

make sure you get to the show a couple hours before the yorkies are scheduled to show. Find out where the exhibitors are and go watch them groom and get ready for the ring. I don't remember seeing any flat-ironing at the show last weekend but it was inside of a barn. But I saw lots of brushing, topknots being done, and finishing touches.

how can i find out what time the yorkie will be showing? do they have a schedule or something? thanks for your help!

ok that was what i thought...flat ironing...hehe..i didn't know we could do that to our dogs...are there special flat irons for dogs? hehe.. thanks

Go to http://www.onofrio.com/ and click on Show Information. Then click on closed shows. Scroll down and click on the show you plan to go to (Valley Center, KS). Then you will click on Judging Program.

I just looked and the show times aren't up yet, but it will probably be up tomorrow sometime. You'll get all the info you need so far as rings and times there.

No, mine is a Conair from Walmart. They do make the ones that you can use ringside but so far, I haven't found one locally. i really need it tho because from the room to the ring, that little wave sometimes come back. can't use hairspray. The times that the yorkies will show and what ring they will be in is only posted after entries close. I never did find it on the onfrio webiste but it was in the little book they mailed me after my entry was recieved it is the one they send to all exhibotrs. You can also buy a program book (10.) the day of the show from the vendors. it tells you how many dogs are in each class, who they are owned and handled by and etc. The little book they send exhibitors in the mail doesn't tell you all that.

I love my Chi iron for the dogs! Wouldn't do without it! Since I'm showing Molly I don't have to iron her coat because I don't wrap her coat and she has straight as a board coat so does Radar but when you wrap it it curls...

Showing your own dog is aa huge part of the fun. I for one, won't put my dogs with a handler. One, I don't have that kind of money, two, I am way too attached to my dogs to let them go off somewhere and be kept in a crate. Three, I am just now starting and at this point for me it is just a fun thing to do.

i mean i would love to show my own dogs but I don't have the experiences..or know where to start really...hehe...

i am still do all the researching and learning i can...hopefully i can find someone that would be able to tell me if MeiLing is show potential...thanks!

Oh I love to show my own dogs and I use to say the same thing about sending out with a handler but since I"m wanting a top winning yorkie unfortunately he has to be out with a handler, I'm not well known in that arena. I do, however, show my own dogs to their championship and finished Radar by myself and Harvey. I did have a handler get majors on Tucker and a handler finished Cammie but that was ringside handling and they didn't go with them. I will always try and show my dogs in the classes for their championship but with Radar I am trying to rank him with the top yorkies. He's the love of my life and I do miss him terribly, it's not easy :( but he's doing really well out with Tonia :)

I remember that feeling, it all started for me when I was able to find a confirmation class. And of course I had gotten Squeakers and needed to learn so many things. I didn't know where to start and it all started to fall in place when I found our confirmation class, and i was fortunate enough that it was one of my great friends from high school who was doing these classes. :)

How old is your MeiLing?
What area are you in? I am sure we can find you a show breeder or a handler of Yorkies in your area that can help you out.

MeiLing is 13 weeks old. I am enrolling her in the handling class at the end of April. I am from Wichita, KS and don't know any show/breeder or handler from her. hehe

I have no clue where Wichita is in distance to Topeka?
How far are you from Topeka? I have a friend that shows Maltese and also another friend that is an old time Yorkie breeder who also now shows Maltese that are in the Topeka area.

Oh you just can't imagine how hard it is for me to have Radar away from home. I actually still tear when I think about it :( I do, however, get to see him when we are at the same shows so that makes it easier.

Radar is my yorkie who is a finished champion which I finished him myself to his championship. He is now what we call a special shown in the breed ring. The handler is a well known handler and I'm not so that's why he's with her. We live in the same state and do go to some of the same shows like this weekend so I'll get to see him. He'll be out with her for the year. I have a little female I'm showing now so I have something to show for the time being :)
It's a complicated explantion but once you learn it's not hard. But it is hard having Radar not home!

They travel to shows so maybe their will be a show close by you can meet in person. Of course your girl is young so they would need to evaluate her at closer to 6 months to get a better evaluation of her.
