Recommendations?
 
I am looking for a highly recommened book on showing. I know the best way to really to learn is to get out there, but I dont currently have a dog to show yet and I like to read. SOOO I was hoping for some suggestions on books that give tips on showing, articles, or even websites.

Also videos too on handling? The rates for a handler are up there in price :eek:

OR I accept tips and advice on do's and donts in the show ring. :aimeeyork Any advice, experiences or suggestions is appreciated really lol. Thanks to anyone that can help.

The Winnig Edge by George Alston is good. He also holds seminars where he will work with you and a dog one on one. You can find the seminars listed on info dog when they come around. See if your local kennel club holds a handling class and ask if you can observe. Go to shows and watch, you can pick up great grooming and handling tips just from being observant.

He also has one online.....I think you can find it on the IAMS website...runs about 90 minutes

I just saw a new video, think it's called something like Best In Show, Training and Handling of the Yorkshire Terrier. SweetyBlue web site has lots of informational videos on grooming, showing, the NY Specialty, etc. Give this site a look. http://www.sweetyblue.com/

Are you hoping on showing someday? I think it would be great, but I'd want to do it myself, because I'd miss my babies too much. I think the idea of you going to as many shows as you can is a really good idea.

I def plan to show someday, I am just trying to get as much info as I can and learn as much as I can. I too would much rather show my dogs myself, I wouldnt feel as accomplished if I had someone else did it. There are some more shows coming up, in the begining of Jan, that my husband and I are going to attend. :)

Sorry I missed you this last weekend...as you know I couldn't show my girl because the Major broke....unsportsman like conduct if I'd have showed her and taken the points from someone that needed them....

Hope to see you in January, that is if there is a Major and it doesn't break

Oh I am sure we will meet soon anyways, it was just good to attend and just take everything in. I enjoyed the show very much!

You need 15 points to AKC Champion a dog; of those 15 points, 2 wins must be Major wins....meaning 3 points or more at one show.....and under 3 different judges. The number of dogs/bitches needed for a 3 or more point Major differs from Region to Region....you can look them up on the AKC website. In California you need 8 bitches for a 3 point Majors....2 weren't shown, therefore breaking the Major ....My Tahlulah need a 3 point Major to obtain her Championship.
