Subject: [Yorkie-Rescue-USA] Yorkie puppy needs help

just got a call from a rachel corbin, in leesburg, va. her yorkie had 6 puppies 2 weeks ago. one of them is not thriving. it weighs 3 oz. the vet told her it should be fed 12 times a day and night. this woman just had a baby 2 months ago and says she cannot keep up that schedule. she asked what we could do for her . i told her i could drive down to pick up the dog and place it in a foster home here in pa until it could eat on its own. then what, she asked? i said it would be adopted. no no she wanted us to drive it back to va from pa and give it back to her!!! yeah right! maybe someone else is closer and can get the puppy to care for. i am worried it will die. her phone number is 703 508-8546 please let me know if yiou can get it away from her. i made her promise to spay her dog but i know that will never happen...

I live in VA; but I can't imagine ANYONE putting that much time, effort and emotion into a puppy and giving it back!!!

Thats why I am wondering if someone calls her and talks to her about it instead of just saying look u want out help u get it but you dont get the dog back i think if she was explained how everything works. maybe? Maybe worth a try. It is a little pup that needs the help and its apparent that she's unable to do it. :(

I could definately go pick it up and care for it here in my rescue. But I think asking somebody to do everything for the pup and then return it is not exactly going to get lots of takers. if she would like for someone to take it and care for it without all the strings... please feel free ot contact me:)

I left a message for her to give me a call back. Maybe she'll let the pup be helped if she new the person wasnt out for a free dog with papers. maybe in exchange for helping her out the foster mom gets the puppy w/o papers not sure I'm also waiting to hear from her to get a little more information about the pup and the mom in general for you guys. I will keep you updated. If anyone else calls her and gets her to respond before I do please post it in here and keep up updated on whats going on.

I spoke with Rachel and offered to help out on her terms. I am a four year volunteer with our local humane society and foster neonatal kittens as needed. I am willing to work out what she is comfortable with. She is going to call me back later after she thinks about what to do. Hopefully all will be well! (as a plus, I live very close to her!)

I don't live too far from Leesburg. Let me know if I can give you a hand with it.

Last I heard, someone was going to take the pup to nurse. What happens after that is unknown.

I have this adorable and tiny puppy with me right now. He human mommy and I are hoping for the best for her. We will see how she does with 2 hour round the clock feedings and care. Her human mom is still very involved with her since we live close to each other.
I don't know how much chance this baby has, but will certainly give it my all and hope and pray that she makes it.

quick update............little puppy is holding her own so far! doing what newborn pups do,eating sleeping, peeing, pooing. We have taken to calling her peanut. I am optimistic, but know that it may not work. Will keep you posted.

Yes, if the life of the pup is the priority...if I lived in VA, I'd be offering to do it. This new mother can't do it but she clearly is not willing to just let the dog die so she has his best interest at heart. The best reward for the person willing to nurse this dog is the knowledge that she saved this dogs life....

I have this tiny little baby in my lap right now. (so I am typing one handed, excuese any typos) We have taken to calling her peanut because she is so small, but she is gaining weight and doing normal newborn puppy things. She is two weeks old and so far so good. I appreciate all the prayers and well wishes sent our way. And I hope and pray she continues to do well. We are bonding! And yes, it will be extremely difficult to give her back after all the time we are spending together!

Awwwh I am so happy that someone got to take care of her!! I got a dog for christmas and he was only about 4days old and we cared for him we bottle fed him and were up with him every night and he's still living and man is he big and strong!!! My best wishes and prayers are with you!!!

Peanut is still doing well. She loves to eat and gets excited when I come with her milk. She is now up to 5 1/2 ouces. (she will be 3 weeks on Tuesday) She opened her eyes the other day. (same day as her littermates!) How precious to see her cute little self with her eyes wide open! She is a doll baby and I am growing quite attached. I am hopeful that she will continue to do well. I talk to the breeder often and planning to go visit her (peanuts littermates) pups in a week and a half.


I'll update with picutures maybe tomorrow.........hubby will be back in town then!

Awesome job!!! Am just reading this thread and what a heart of gold you have to take this precious baby in to give "peanut" a chance at life (and for all the others you take in as well). Thank you for keeping us updated on the progress this special bundle of fur is making. Can't wait to read more and see pictures!!

Peanut is now up to 7 1/2 ounces!! (3 weeks old yesterday) So, she is gaining well. Also, she is adorable. When I come with her milk she scoots up to the front of the crate and squeaks for me. She is beginning to try and walk on her wobbly legs already. It is very cute.

I promise to have my hubby help me upload some pics.........she will make you say awww!

wow Traci I think you are so very wonderful for doing this! if this happened near me I would also. I know it would be hard to return the pup but I would knowing that I helped to save her.
