Even signing up to foster is quite a process. I am a foster & have only got one call in 2 years & that one didnt pan out. There are not to many healthy yorkies in rescue. Usually very old & need meds daily plus the adoption fees are very high. I wanted to adopt a pair the fee was $600 ea & they had health issues but they were also already adopted by the time I was approved,lol & all that was left was even older, worse health, mixes that really didnt look anything like a yorkie. These 4 pictured are pretty nice looking they are probably already pending adoption. I wanted to adopt but it wasnt working out, then trying to find a decent breeder & affordable price-woo yorkie hunting is hard work. Finally my little Tilula. Hours upon hours of searching but I found her. I have thought of breeding so that I can get another girl for myself, but I would end up w/3 boys:p and be like oh boy:rolleyes: Then I would have the worry of finding my babies 4ever good homes. Its a huge responsibility.

That is so sad because my Yorkies are great with my kids, and my kids are great with them. I had a long road to find someone who would let me have a puppy because I had a 4 year old and a two year old. Thank goodness I did because they are such a big part of my family. My male Tucker loves to play and run around with the kiddos... but my female Lilly likes to lay around and watch tv and cuddle with them. I think you have to meet the family and the kids and make a decision. Cutting off all chances of it doesn't allow wonderful pets to have wonderful families.

try yorkerescue.com, I've been a member for about 6 years now and we can always use the help. Some folks want to help but lose interest when they realize how much work and patience is involved. we often get the blind the elderly and the sick and injured and a emergency trip to a kill shelter an hour away is always possible.

the application to volunteer is on the website...my Winston was a foster yorkie..and yes I failed "foster101" (I adopted him). I've had many, many fosters around and many hours devoted to "yorkie express" .... very rewarding. To see that poor yorkie, dirty, bloody, trembling and possibly with the broken jaw from being thrown against the wall, and to know you can make their life a little better, is worth every minute.

Great Website! However, they will not adopt out to people that have kids under 10. How unfortunate! I have 8 yr old twins and a 9 yr old..:(
so, I guess that counts me out!

Im going thru the same thing. Yes, it\'s costly to adopt and I would love to have a yorkie, even a Yorkie Poo. That\'s what I originally started out looking for. Found one. and yup, you guessed it. someone got him before I was able to . FRUSTRATING!

Hello I am actually a foster mom and volunteer for a Save A yorkie rescue. I can completely understand everyones frustration with adoption. Before I became a member of the Save a Yorkie rescue I was having the hardest time adopting a yorkie myself. I am 23 years old own a housewith my boyfriend 26 with a fenced in backyard a yorkie owner and rescued a s**tzu. You would think that I would be approved but I wasn\'t with other rescues I was told I was to young and immature and didn\'t know what I was getting into. Mind you these people didn\'t even talk to me or meet me and they had this cut me out because of my age. I am very much dedicated to my dogs and willing to help in anyway that I can. I found save a yorkie and they were the only ones who took the time to get to know me and now I am a foster mom and volunteer. Also, to answer the one questions that so people wonder about yorkies rescues and why they don\'t adopt to families with small children is that most of the yorkies that we get in foster came from families with small children we are certainly not saying that your kids are monsters it\'s just small children tend to play ruff with these little pups. And unfortunately children who are good with dogs are lumped into the category.
