need rescue asap 4 years ago i re-homed one of my breeding females (I no longer breed) I had her spayed, teeth cleaned, fully vetted. she went to live with a senior citizen in my church. I went to check on her several times she was always beautifully groomed, in great shape--now fast forward to last night when I got a phone call from the lady that she needed me to come get the dog because she could no longer care for her, when I got her home --OMG !! SHE WAS COVERED IN FLEAS and she had sores all over, teeth in horrible condition, hair falling out in the back, nails so long , I don't know how she could walk !! but she was still her sweet self. she is 12 years old and needs a new home. I have 3 senior dogs and I don't have the money to take care her. she is housebroke, walks well on a leash, gets along great with MALE DOGS NOT AT ALL WITH FEMALE DOGS. If i had the money I would keep her, hubby not working due to health and with 3 old dogs already that have health issues I just can't. PLEASE HELP |
I am so sorry... Have you contacted any rescues in your area? |
OMG, Gloria I feel your pain, I am dealing with Zoey who I just got back to to a divorce and she came in terrible conditions too.. , but since she only a pup people came out of the wood work to adopt her, wishing you best of luck with your girl.. hugs, |
in my area there are no yorkie rescues in my area and being that she is 12 years old I'm doubtful that anyone will take her. I contacted my vet this am and he suggested treating her skin problems which will cost me $75.00 and then getting a rescue to take her and address her teeth issues. Heck I don't have $75.oo right now, he was giving me a discount since he spayed and cleaned her teeth 4 years ago. he said antibotics and skin cream will clear it up faster than neosporin that I had put on her. i just hope a rescue will take her. |
I'm sorry for what your going through, contact all your resources in the area, including the SPCA go to your local Pet Supplies Plus or Petco and get the names of rescues from them, they work with several (in NY anyways)...You have to follow through with this girl....she needs you...good luck.. |
Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue DOES have foster homes in TN. I would suggest you contact them: Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue, Inc. |
thank you thanks for the link i did that. now I just have to post a pic baby is on antibotics now and hopefully her sores will clear up soon and her hair will grow back, I'm going to trim her up this week end and try to even her out, she is sooo beautiful when she is in good shape. |
Rescue didn't help... Well. I postedthe information on the rescue web site and a lady in savanna, tn emailed back and forth for 2 days and then she decided she didn't want a 12 year old dog. I told her up front she was 12 years old. How do i go about getting a rescue to come and pick her up or take her to them? |

You might want to do a search on Petfinder for yorkies in your area to see if perhaps there is another rescue that might be able to help. |
Try https://www.facebook.com/bridgehome or The Bridge Home No Kill Animal Rescue They were the ones that protested during the Yorkie Abuse case last year. they are in Blountville, TN |
Oh my. :(. I hoe you can get a rescue to help you. |
You might try this one. They are out of the Knoxville area. https://www.facebook.com/PreciousPawsAsianDogRescue |
I don't do facebook i don't do facebook but the rescue in Blountville, tn says they cant't help because of her age and they have no room right now. But they put her on a web site for me. I don't know what to do, hubby says he is tired of having to take her out separate from our other 2 female yorkies just because she doesn't like them and tries to fight. My husband had to take early retirement because of his health and he takes of the dogs while i'm at work and I feel sorry for him and for baby who though no fault of her own is need ing a new home. if anyone knows of someone looking for a free senior yorkie that can be the only female dog, please let me know. thanks |
Where do you live in TN? |
lewisburg I live in lewisburg about 1 hr south of nashville, she does get along with male dogs but hates the female dogs |
Senior Yorkie So sorry for your plight. I saw on the Yorkie Haven web site that they take Yorkies regardless of AGE etc????? Why not this one? |
this is not good... |

A. We don't have a foster home in TN. B. We don't have ANY openings at the present time. C. We are always in need of foster homes...so if you might be interested, send an email to yorkiehavenrescue@yahoo.com D. This pup needs to be the only female in a home...finding a foster home without other females is not that simple. Many of us have different sexes. When you have a pup like this, placement is even more difficult. |
Senior Yorkie Thank you Lady Jane for your informative reply. I fully understand your answers to my question and I did not know your rescue did not have fosters in TN. But YTNR does and I am sorry they could not assist here. I understood that rescues were created by caring pet lovers to take care of babies such as the one in question here. If they cannot, then who does? I fear that the desperate mom of this particular girl may have no option but to surrender her to a city shelter, and we all know what may happen then. Surely someone in TN can take this baby and love her for her remaining years? It is a sad situation and I pray it will work out for the poor furbabe. Thank you for all you do for these little waifs. |
Gloria jean Me again! Did you try the Buster Brown rescue in TN? |
Gloria jean Sorry, I now see you did try, but no luck. Hang in there, do not give up on her, someone will take her I am sure. |

The only thing I can say about this situation is that I do hope the OP is very, very careful about where she puts this little girl. She is at high risk for bad things happening to her. I wish I could do something to help....the fact that she has to be in a home with only males would render my home useless to her. We went though that with another pup recently...only she did not do well with either sex. Her owner finally did find a home for her. Hopefully the OP can hang in there and just keep looking for someone. |

I hope you can find an arrangement for her. Do you have any pictures of her? I could share with others to try and network. |
Hubby said ok I got the hubby to agree not to take her to the dog pound, her skin is clearing up really good, I'm at work and will try to post a pic tonight. I know it will be hard to find the right home for her, but she will not be put down. thank you every one for your repiles andsuggestions.:) |
Lady Jane I do feel for you rescue angels too! It must be so hard to see all the needy pups and you can do nothing to help them. I agree it may come to the horrible conclusion that the little one has to be PTS, but as you say it would be kinder that the mom is with the baby when it happens - not a cold shelter. It is a shame that there are not more rescues, such as DOGTOWN that mainly take dogs that have no hope of a regular adoptive home for the reasons you mention. Let us hope that the crack down on puppy mills that is gaining momentum now (with cities passing laws to stop pets being sold in stores, and thus little outlet for puppy mill dogs) will help in the number of dogs needing rescue. The hope for the little girl is that she will find a home with no other dogs, only a loving mom to make the rest of her life as good as it can be. |
Gloria Jean WTG! That is good to hear that you are keeping trying to find your baby a home. Wishing you all well. |

I am so happy to hear this! Hopefully someone perfect will come along for her. :) |
are you still active in the church, perhaps the ladies group can help raise some money for her care, a bake sale, a 50/50 at a church event there should be something that can be done there. does the old lady have any funds or her family where she could chip in at least $100.00 if so this would give you time to get her healthy, Perhaps a girl scout troop that would like to adopt ie sponsor her, you could take her to visit them and they could learn a bit about animal care, the vet might even let them come in to hear about her care, it could be a learning experinec, and it might go towards one of their badges, that's what I would do, I would try to raise some quick cash for her vet care. if need be get some friends and stand outside a pet store with a can,and her photos or buy cheap candy bars and sell them for double or triple what you pay, heck private schools do that all the time which annoys me since you would think those kids come from families of at least some means. Good luck wish i was in TN I would help. Oh how far are you from Spring Hill? |
bummer I just looked it up you are on the other side of Nashville, probably two hours from Sprin Hill, my SIL lives there and is involved with Westie rescue she probably could have helped you with fundraising. Let me know what you think of my ideas. |
