Looking for advice
 
Hi, I have acquired a Yorkie and need help. His name is George and he was born in December 2006. His owner passed away very suddenly three weeks ago. I am unable to keep him despite absolutely falling in love with him. I have a dog I rescued 5 years ago as a puppy and the two are not fond of each other and I am terrified my dog might hurt him. I am keeping the two apart as best I can. I researched his breeder- have all the paperwork- but have learned on your site she may not be as reputable as her website claims. I am hesitant to reach out to her. I am a practicing psychologist and will be able to take George with me to work during the day until I can find him a loving forever home. Any advice as to how I should proceed would be most welcome. Thank you.

I am sorry you can't keep George. I have a George that was born in June of 2006. If you don't feel the 2 dogs can co-exist you are doing the best for George by letting him go. If you plan on rehoming George why are you worried about his breeder? I guess maybe someone would want to know his medical history but his vet should have his records. There are plenty of people here who have a ton of knowledge. Best of luck to you and sweet George!

Hi- the paperwork I have from the breeder requests she be notified if something should ever happen. I researched her name and found some less than comforting opinions. I have contacted his vet- plan to keep him there and with the same groomer as I'm certain he's confused enough, until I find the right home. He is the sweetest little boy- totally house trained, no aggressive behavior, eats well, minimal barking. He's 4 pounds. I'm hoping I find someone on this site. He's a real prize.

I should add George is up to date medically, neutered and very good with children and adults.

George sounds like a perfect pup. I hope you have great luck finding him a wonderful new home with someone familiar with yorkies.

Thankfully he's neutered already, which is awesome! My only advice is to thoroughly check out whoever he goes to and be sure to get a vet reference from the vet they use too.

Thank you, I will. He really is. It's a shame his owner passed away. I'm sure things will work out for him- he is a real sweetheart. Figured this site was the perfect place to start.

Do you think, with time, the two dog would get along? I am sure you know besr.

Maybe you could contact a yorkie rescue, they are very good at finding new homes. I am sure there are many people (like me) who would love to give him s home. I just live too far away...

Maybe you could call some Vets. and ask if they know of anyone who may have a recently deceased pet and are looking for another. I would be very careful with rescues because some are only out to get them for free only to sell them. I also wouldn't call that breeder. Sounds like she would demand he come back to her, then she could sell him all over again.
Is it possible you could just get a behaviorist to help the two dogs get along?

If it were me, I would definitely go through a rescue. The rescue screens potential homes and matches the dog to the family. There are several great rescue groups on YT but just considering your location, I would email Yt member Tae1107, her name is Kerrianne and she works for Yorkies Inc.They have a web site and do a good job placing dogs. Thank you for caring soo much for a precious little boy that is in a "fork in his road of life". I think you deserve a whole bunch of "atta girl's" for even bothering to try to do what a breeder has set forth in her papers to the original owner, as well as compassionate enough to care emotionally what happens to this baby boy! YOU REALLY ARE TO BE COMMENDED FOR YOUR EFFORTS!! There are several rescue ladies on this forum that can certainly give you assistance getting this baby rehomed. I wish, just based on the care and concern you have already shown toward this pup, it would work out for you.....you dont think your other boy will ever accept him? I certainly wouldnt want to even suggest taking a chance on trying to get a 4# pup to be accepted by a larger pup that feels this new guy is nothing more than an interloper on his territory! Someone on here will be able to help with this baby....your instinct to come here for assistance was right on!

My little dog was once attacked by a bigger dog. It is very scary. I have seen how some dogs react to these little guys. Even some very sweet well trained dogs see a fluffy little dog as something to stomp on or to grab and shake. I guess it is some sort of inborn instinct they have. It certainly is not worth taking a chance that one of your dogs might get too playful with the little guy.
I'm so glad you are taking the time to find the perfect home for him.

That's great to keep him where he is familiar. I so wish it would work out for you with George and your other furbaby from your posts you seem like the perfect Mommy for him. Anyways, if there is no way to keep him there are several rescues on here that can help find him a furever home. They will screen the potential homes to make sure George is going somewhere safe and loving. Best of luck!

Thank you all for the advice. He really is a sweetie but my Stella has her nose so out of joint. Maybe she will relax a bit over time but on the other hand I know he would make a wonderful pet for someone. I've learned his owner paid $2995.00 for him (just located the bill of sale). Was this high? I've never purchased a dog before- always have rescued.

I guess if he was show or breeder quality that would be a nice price but it is awful high for a pet! There are those who charge that much for a tiny one though because the Hollywood crowd has made them so in demand.

I have no idea if he is show or breeder quality. I just know he is awfully sweet and cute. I've been reading a lot about this breed over the last week- I've learned demand for them spiked after the celebrities started which sadly has caused high numbers of toy breeds at rescues and shelters once the novelty wears off. Very disheartening to say the least.
