Arizona--I need help.. Many members know my yorkie Ralphie..And I am sick to my stomach at this point.I am in tears writing this.. Ralphie is having major issues my husband. So much so that he has melt downs..which almost look like seizures, when he gets around him. I have gone to several doctors, have even resorted to putting him on medications. His quality of life is not good..he is not happy.. and his behavior has made me ill. I have a serious condition which is affected by stress. It is along story to tell. I would seriously consider Bunny going to a new home..if there was someone who could give him the care that I am failing to give. When he goes in to his tantrums, he runs in to things, and has actually had to go to the vet several times because he has hurt his eyes. They are fine now.. I just do not know what else to say..but anyone who is in my area..please contact me. The situation is becoming dire..90% of the time he is fine. Then he is not. We believe this is due to anxiety, but I just can not tell. The vet is stumped as well. You can contact me at azkaty@gmail.com . Katy |
My condition , BTW is called Addison's disease. You can leave a message or speak to me during the week at 480 830 7119 x 8313. Katy |
I am so sorry that you are faced with such a hard decision. :( Has Ralphie always behaved this way or is this something new? Have you tried a Thundershirt? It really has helped a lot of dogs with anxiety and fearfulness. It might be worth a try. He is just adorable. |
I'm so sorry you had to make such a tough decision. Hugs to you! |
You need to talk to Linda, LadyJane on Yt she works with a lot of rescue dogs and may be able to help you. Sad to hear your baby is having this problem hopefully you can find some help. |
I am so sorry to hear you are going through difficulties with Ralphie. It must be devastating. Have you thought of consulting with an animal behaviorist. Perhaps if one came to the home they might be able to address Ralphies issues and calm the situation down. The suggestion of a Thunder shirt is a great idea too. Wishing you luck in defusing this situation. |
Thanks to everyone..I have had him on calming pills when he has an episode., and have spoken with/met a behavior person. He has been this way for about 3 years..Most of the time he is very good..then he goes off..We do not know what sets him off..There is no real trigger. He does not do this with other people..not even at the vet. The danger is to myself because of the stress ful situation..When he gets this way, I literally could have to go to the hospital. Katy |
Thanks for the info on thundershirt..I will try that. Katy |
I'm so sorry:( I hope that the thundershirt helps, it has helped many other pups here with anxiety. He's just as cute as a button and I'd take him in a heartbeat if I were closer, but I'm in Florida. Good luck and please do keep us posted:girl_hug: |
Sorry you are having problems with him. Pixie developed an anxiety condition and the vet gave me a great liquid medicine called nutricalm. It's holistic and works great with the thundershirt. I hope you can get some help. |
aww I saw Bunny on UYR site. He is adorable!! I'm sorry that you have to make such a tough decision, I hope the thundershirt can help. Hoping for the best for both you and Bunny! |
Oh my gosh, Katy :(. You know how Ralphie has always had a special place in my heart . I am so sorry to hear of what's happening to your little Bunny. Has he seen a neurologist or internist? I think you know about this place - this is where my furs go for specialist vets: Arizona Veterinary Specialists Have you had him stay w/ a good friend or relative for a few weeks to see if he has any reaction while away from home? Does he have these reaction every time he's around your husband? Is this a new marriage....as in, did you get married w/in the last 3-4 years or anything? What happens when hubby tries to play w/ Ralphie? Did anything traumatic happen to him around 3-4 yrs ago? I'm so sorry for you and for Ralphie...I'm willing to help, just not sure what I can do... |
I think I have some good news to share with my friends. I am going to look in to some short term meds, and there is a very kind lady that is coming to meet with me,. who has had a yorkie with far greater challenges than my Bunny. She has a yorkie who was physically abused, and was rehomed 3 times. So, she shared her success story with me on her little guy. He is off meds now and doing great. I have been just destroyed these last few days, just thinking of giving him up. Really, I think he has issues with my husband, but I do not know for sure. So that being said, I think I will meet with this gal, and she may take him on vacation with her for a bit to assess the situation. I am also going to try the thundershirt..there just has to be an answer.. So.. I will keep in touch with you all, and we shall see if we can get rid of Ralphies demons.. Katy |
Ann.. I just PM'd you. Katy |
Katy - I just emailed you directly w/ some ideas. :) |
I am praying you find a solution so you can keep your baby. Sending prayers for a positive outcome! |
Adding my prayers  |
Continued prayers that you can keep your baby with you. |
Thundershirt is on the way. I am also going to look in to anti anxiety meds. I think one of my big problems will be changing my hubbys attitude towards Ralphie..he really does not like him at this point, and I think Ralphie is picking up on that. He keeps comparing him to the other 2 dogs, which is unfair. I would apprecaiate any emails from others that have been dealing with anxiety issues, especially any one that has used meds, such as diazapam or alprazolam. I know some are better than others, some have less complications than others. Thanks for all the kind words. Katy |
Hi, Ann just linked me this thread, and I'd be glad to help in any way I can. I'll send you an email. |
I have to agree with you about Ralphie picking up your husbands disliking him. I know Buster is really in tune with the moods of people around him. Is there a specific reason your husband does not like Ralphie? I looked to see what other kinds of dogs you have are they yorkies or bigger dogs? Would your husband consider changing his attitude toward Ralphie and see if that helps? That would be so much kinder than medicating your dog to ease his fears of not being liked if that is what is causing the issues. I am sorry that you have to deal with all the stress as I know you love both your men. I hope you can find a solution that works for all of you. |
The Bunny is sensitive to loud voices ..and my hubby has one..I know he gets aggravated at the fact that he misses his pee pads sometimes, an that I spend allot of time with him once I get home. It is something that has gotten worse over the last year.I think But other issues complicated he matter. That a groomer must have been very rough about 3 years ago..that he has not been with many people. And my failures..not being able to train him. Thats why this is so hard on me..I feel like I have failed him and myself. When I give in to the stress of the situation, it makes me ill.So it is a bad circle of events. And I am sure Ralphie picks up on this with me.As I have said this is a long story. I just want him to be happy. And I need to get well. Again..here it is 5 in the morning, and I am in tears..Ralphi licking my face. The pain is really bad .. Katy |
He is just precious! Is he related to Patti's little girls? He looks alot like them. I will pray for you both because I know that the thought of losing him has to be breaking your heart. They are very sensitive little souls. My yorkies were really nervous and scared before I left my ex husband. Now they are fine, except for Chip and he still does not like loud noises or if someone comes at him trying to pick him up. He cannot go to the groomer. I groom him here at home. I understand what your going through if your husband doesn't exactly like him. I have been there too. I wish you the best and hope it works out for you. |
Katy, I am so sorry you are going through such a difficult time. I pray that something works and you can keep your baby with you. I know that I am all the way in New York, but I would be glad to help in any way. Hugs, Nichole |

Just a brief update, Ralphie met Joey this past weekend and he’s been staying with us for a while. I think he’s doing remarkably well, since he’d never met me or Joey before, and he reminds me of the type of dog, that just doesn’t want to do the wrong thing. So it’s more about building his confidence than correcting him. Carolyn has done a wonderful job on him, and I think because of her illness, the stress has just gotten to be too much. Sometimes, things can be so overwhelming when we don’t feel well. Anyway, Ralphie is safe and fairly happy, he loves his walks, and his food, he’s still warming up to me, and leaped on me last night during a Thunderstorm, but settled down pretty fast. Joey’s not doing too bad, but I think he is a little jealous, and I’ve never noticed that before when my sons’ dogs come to stay for a while. Right now they aren’t really playing much, but aren’t aggressive towards each other either. Carolyn is looking into different trainers, who may be able to help her with certain issues, but the goal is get them back together and this be Ralphie’s home away from home. I wish everyone loved their dogs as much as Carolyn loves Ralphie, she only wants what’s best for him, but she also has to take care of herself first. |

I am so happy to hear that Ralphie has a home away from home and new loving friends to help him get a more positive outlook on life. It sounds like everyone was trying their best to be perfect. Thank you so much Nancy for being so kind and generous to open your home and heart to Ralphie. I hope this gives both Ralphie and Carolyn some time to mend and feel better. Best wishes to all. Thanks to Joey for being such a good boy and I hope you become fast friends! |
You guys are making me cry now!! Like I just told Nancy.. you are no Bunny till some Bunny loves you. I know my Bunny loves me, and it is so good that he is at Nancy's right now. I had felt so hopeless..and now I think I see the way to go.. I think my worry over him has really made me stress out and get ill. To know that Ralphie is resilient has helped me get a little stronger as well . But I need some time to heal a bit. I take great comfort knowing he is over at Nancy's. And Ann I owe you more than I can say for telling Nancy about me. My love to all your guys..don't know what else I can say right now.. |
What can I say...Katy, Nancy & Ralphie...you rock!:rockhard: Katy, I hope you feel better and BIG thank you's to Nancy for stepping up to help a fellow Yorkie-Lover!:) |
