Houston - Can anyone help? I just received an email about a 5 pound female yorkie with a fractured leg. She was splinted and it did not heal...now the owner wants to surrender her. The vet said she must be operated on ASAP. I have NO room at all and don't have another foster home with room. If anyone is interested in fostering, this will be an expensive one until we can reimburse you. PM me and we can discuss this. This pup must be seen by a board certified surgeon! I am trying to find another group....just figured I would give a post here a try. |
I hope you can find someone. We are getting so many in at the shelter that people leave at the vets because they can't afford the vet care. It's so sad. |

This pup is in a home with a senior on a fixed income. People never think about what could happen and think a dog will always be healthy??? Really? I am sorry, but I don't understand that kind of thinking...especially from a person who has lived long enough to know that life happens. I am just sick of irresponsibility on the part of people. |
I just spoke with an angel on the phone and may have an answer for this pup. There also was a reply from another rescue, so it looks like we may be able to help her somehow! |
Just seeing this and glad to hear that someone might take this pup. |

I know. Then a lot of these people go out and get another dog. Even Nikki was adopted from a yorkie rescue to Carol, an elderly women who had 2 previous strokes and no means to provide for him. He was adopted out with teeth that were so rotted and lived like that with Carol for a year and a half until I met her. It is almost to the point you need to do credit checks on potential adopters. I hate to sound mean but when you see so many dogs and cats ending up in shelters something needs to be done. I hope something works out for this poor baby. |
2 Attachment(s) Oh my gosh....we have an angel in our midst!!! She has chosen to remain anonymous for now but I want you all to know that a very kind YTer picked up little Buffy this morning. We took her to the surgeon immediately. She has been admitted and surgery will be tomorrow. Poor little angel has been through so much. Her leg was fractured in January .. both bones in her left lower front leg...the radius and ulna....and because the owner could not afford surgery her vet put a splint on it. She only had about a 10% chance of healing from that. Just so sad. Anyway....here it is 8 weeks later...thank God they surrendered her. She was actually running around her house with that thing on. :( And, NO pain meds. Just horrifying to me. :( When they took the splint off, they said it was disturbing....her little leg was just flopping. I will know more details tomorrow...but for sure she will need bone grafting and pins, plates and screws. Below are a couple of pics. They are not great...but she is a beautiful little girl...and so sweet! Thank you to our anonymous friend here.....Buffy is so lucky to have you!! :) You are a wonderful person to do what you are doing for this precious pup. I shudder to think what might have happened to her had you not stepped up to help her. I simply could not take another one and had no other options for her. Attachment 340121 Attachment 340122 |
Poor Buffy and thank god she is on the road to recovery. How can people be so cruel? What am amazing person this anonymous YT member is for stepping up for Buffy! |
Thank you kind rescue angel for taking in Buffy. Will keep her in my thoughts and prayers as she has surgery tomorrow. What a very sad story but sounds like it is going to have a happy ending for this little girl. |
Outstand, whoever you are! |
OMGsh! you can look in that baby's eyes and see she is in pain.:(:( how COULD you look into her eyes everyday and think that was ok? Thank God I have never broken a bone, but I did sprain my ankle once and that was painful...can't imagine having a complete break! I am on disability & a single mother & yes things can be verrry tight at times, but come hell or high water I would do whatever it takes to make sure both my babies (:girl: & :aimeeyork) were taken care of. I wish I had more money so I could take in rescues, maybe one day. :) In the mean time, :thumbs up GREAT Samaritan! You're indeed an :angel2:! And may God bless you both! :love-hug1 This is why I LoVe YT! |

LJ, Do let us know if there is anything this "YT" angel needs to help this poor baby. Whomever you are, thank you for helping Buffy. Sending prayers for a successful surgery. |
Prayers going out for Buffy for her surgery. I am so glad that she is now with rescue and she get all of needs taken care of. She is just adorable. |
Praying, praying, praying for little Buffy today. Thank you to the 'Angel', RDB911 and all the other wonderful YT'rs for helping with this baby's medical costs! You guys are great. :) Bonny |
Just look at her!! She has to have one of the cutest, sweetest little faces ever. :D It's so good to see her enjoying the sunshine and up on her own four paws! |
Buffy is out of surgery and in recovery. :) The surgeon will call later with details on the surgery and I will update. I received an email from one of the day staff with a report on Buffy since the telephone call went to the foster mom and she wanted to make sure I was kept informed....the previous shift had left notes about Buffy saying she "loves attention". I just love that place...they are so good to the pups and the vets and other staff are just amazing! :) Anyone looking for specialists in the Houston area: Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists I have taken many pups there and have always been happy. |
That is great news. Looking forward for the detailed version once you get it. Terrific |
She did very well and the surgery was uneventful ... they were also able to spay her which we had requested if at all possible so that she won't need to be anethetized again too soon. At some point she will need a dental, but not now because of the risk of bacteria being released into the system with that bone surgery just being done. They did bone grafting and there is a plate and four screws. She will be discharged tomorrow. |
Great news LJ I will be putting Buffy on the "prayer list" for a speedy recovery. |
