[QUOTE=ladyjane;3121748]Roriee's foster mom just sent this updated bio! I am just SO excited and know you all will be as well!!! :cheer::cheer::cheer: ------------ 5/9/10 - 9:00 PM ET - Today the doctor decided it might be best for Roriee to be in a home environment instead of a clinical environment, so we went and picked her up. This evening we took her outside to try and let her go potty, since that was what they were doing at the vet, and she was actually able to walk around a little bit. She wasn't completely steady, but she wasn't falling over on her side each time she got up like the night we picked her up. It was so exciting to see her move around without falling and without screaming Way to go wee Roriee. Rest n Heal. Give lots of kisses to your foster MOm. We are rooting for you! |
Up until now Roriee screamed a lot and also growled and snapped at people. The screaming has decreased a bit and she is able to stand and walk a little bit without falling over like she was; so we feel there definitely is improvement. We are cautiously optimistic at this point. We are ever mindful that the many issues she has are severe in nature. We are just so thankful that we have been able to help her, thanks so the love of so many of you, and I am sure she knows it. This just came to me this evening from her foster mom: I had a very good couple of minutes with her where I was massaging her back and belly and she let me without growling and snapping. That was huge since she always gets mad when anyone goes into the room. |
I can't even imagine her being in so much pain that she didn't want to be touched or help . :( This is really great news that Jen is not able to touch her and rub her belly. All puppies need to be touched so they know they are loved. Hopefully her pain will continue to be more controlled. |
so sad that she was in so much pain and so scared that she didn't even want to be touched. glad she is letting jen touch her now, even if its for a few minutes. |
one step at a time, small steps, but still steps! |
There are many issues going on with her. The growling and snapping are actually due to the GME. With GME there are personality and behavioral changes. The treatments she is getting and also the prednisone may slow the progression of GME, but to be honest this is a progressive disease. It would have been better had she been treated for the encephalitis back six months ago, but we cannot undo that and just need to pray that these treatments are going to help...that the disease has not gone too far to be slowed enough. At this point we are doing our best to keep her comfortable and hoping that she can have some quality time. It is difficult sometimes to know how far to go with these pups. The fact that she is better is definitely promising. We just will need to closely watch her because we do not want her to suffer. Her foster mom and dad will be very attentive to her. She is on prednisone and also pain meds. The wrap is helping to keep her spine stabilized since they cannot operate on her. So, honestly, we do not feel that she is in pain at this point. She can stand up and walk short distances without flopping over like she was and without screaming, so that is encouraging. I am sorry that we did not get to her sooner; but even if we had, these are serious medical problems. We just have to take it a day at a time. At least for now, as Steve said, each day has been bringing some baby steps. |
Thank you for the latest update, my prayers continue.:hands: |
