Oh bless his heart! What a precious little boy! I hope someone can get him. :( |

No...he is listed as a Yorkshire Terrier. I copy/pasted that from an email...OTHERS was for the rest of the list!:) |
OMG He's so handsome and sad looking. I hope and pray that he finds his forever home soon!!! |
Oh, no! Gaston County Animal shelter is a high volume kill shelter that still uses inhumane gas chambers! North Carolina Gas Chamber Workshop with Live Victims – VIDEO For the Love of the Dog It failed a state inspection just a year ago. Lost animals getting killed within 24 hrs in violation of NCGS 130A-192, because, according to the vet who "euthanized" it, "it was old and skinny and blind." Apparently Gaston County Animal Control does not believe that pet owners have a right to have their lost pet returned to them if it is "old" or "skinny" or "blind." Animals are refused to be held overnight even though rescue groups agreed to pick it up the next day...The failed inspection stated that the disposition paperwork on the animals, which is required by state law to be created and preserved, was either incomplete or nonexistent. Either broken or no food or water bowls was common. Oh I know...the place is dreadful. That pup has been sent to MANY rescue groups. I am SO hopeful someone will get him out of there. Makes me sick. |

i read about this shelter. oh my gosh. this is horrible. does the 2/4 date they mentioned mean that they will kill this baby on that day? i can't stand it. |
Quote:
Yes, they will kill him. :( |
This is making my heart sick. I pray someone gets him soon. |
I looked at the website and it said that "OTHERS" are not available for adoption. This poor boy is listed as an "other". :( Does that mean he is scheduled to be killed no matter what? I want to reach through my computer screen and hug him. |

Gaston County requires proof of a current rabies vaccination or they destroy the animal, even kittens and puppies. If this guy is a stray, he would have no inoculations records. :thumbdown Animal Shelter News | North Carolina Gaston County Animal Shelter is the worst of the worst. 9 out of 10 dogs picked up are destroyed. They die a horrible death in inhumane gas chambers. |
oh my gosh. so even if someone were willing to get in the car and go get him, without vaccination records....there is zero hope? he is a 5-6 hour drive from here which is frankly nothing at all if it meant saving his life. i am heartsick over this. wth is with that place? i am going to have nightmares of those gas chambers for certain tonight. how absolutely disgusting! |

i don't understand this at all because from the way i interpreted the homepage of this joint, they are partnered up with local vets and provide a host of vaccines etc as part of the "adoption" process. i must have missed something?:( this makes me so sad.....and really angry, too. |

http://www.co.gaston.nc.us/ordinance...ControlOrd.pdf I pray someone can get this poor guy out of the shelter before he is killed. |

The horrible reality is that very few animals are adopted from Gaston County. 9 out of 10 are killed and owners reclaiming their pet accounts for most of the rest. |
I just double checked and this guy is listed as "OTHERS": Kennel Inquiry This is what is stated on their main page: Note: Animals labeled as “OTHERS” are not available for adoption. This makes me sick. |

I'm going to forward this info to "Janet's Rescues" in Virginia tomorrow morning. The group is known for saving dogs at the last minute and they have gotten Yorkies out of North Carolina. |
i will call as soon as i wake up in the morning and find out if there is anything at all i can do. |

If only this guy had been microchipped and wearing a rabies tag, this story would have had a much better chance of a happy ending. |
I think he is on a stray hold until the 4th. They do have to keep them for a certain amount of time for the owner to claim them. That is the impression I got. They may only release to rescues. I believe that is what they mean by not adoptable now. I honestly only know a little about this shelter...and that is that they are a high kill and use the gas chamber which makes me totally sick to my stomach. I am going to find out what I can in the morning. |
One of our NC members is on a cruise...trying to contact another one who is familiar with this shelter. Hopefully, I will hear from her by morning. |

I found more on the rabies ordinance in Gaston County: If the animal has no tag proving a current rabies vaccination that is more than one year old, Gaston County Animal Control can not put the animal up for adoption. Gaston Humane Society Gaston County started requiring proof of rabies vaccinations in 1999. Animals can't be adopted out unless there's proof they've been protected against rabies for at least a year. The tough rules are in response to rabies outbreaks in the late 1990s. That means strays can't be adopted. Officials think they have ample reasons for their no rabies vaccination-no adoption policy: protecting public health, and county liability if a former shelter animal comes down with rabies. Public safety seems to be the concern about the rabies vaccination requirement. Maybe they will bend the rules if the dog will be taken out of Gaston County? Please keep us updated. This is heartbreaking. |
One of our NC members is going to call someone she knows this morning who will know exactly what the scoop is on this little guy. I asked her to find out if he is available to rescue only, or also to the public. As soon as I hear something, I will post. |
