xxxxx (edited) is a rare breed dog called a Biewer Terrier ( a tri-colored Yorkie), which is in the process of getting their AKC recognition. They are a very friendly, sweet, and sociable dog. She is just over 2 years old, paper trained and leash trained to go out in the yard. Good with other dogs and cats. No health issues. She's about 8 pounds. She will be spayed before leaving and is up to date on vaccines. This breed does require frequent grooming.... (edited/removed)

She is not in a shelter. This rescue is posting this is a referral to let people know she is available for adoption from the breeder. ;)

Was the breeder contacted about rescueing his/her own dog? This is troubling to me that we are seeing Biewers in rescue. Not suppposed to be happening.

Obviously not a very responsible breeder if they cannot spay/neuter and place their own breedings :mad::(

I emailed to ask about her, but they wouldn't tell me anything unless I committed to come to PA. :confused::(:confused: That's a long trip to go w/o knowing a little more about the dog...in my book! She is gorgeous, we get that from her picture, but I feel I need more info....She seems to good to be true!

I don't know this rescue and I don't know this breeder. From my inquiries, this rescue works with breeders on a referral basis. Scottish Terrier Club of Greater New York, Inc. - Home

This rescue doesn't have the dogs. You have to go thru the rescue, explain your story, etc...If the rescue feels you are a good candidate, they will refer you to this breeder who is rehoming these dogs. You then have to go thru the breeders guidelines, which I was told, she is very, very, very strict and cautious as to whom she will adopt out too.

The breeder will be spaying/neutering and getting the dogs UTD on shots.

IDK if this is a good or bad thing....But I often see breeders turning to the help of rescue when rehoming.

Again, I don't know this rescue or breeder, just telling you what was told to me.

This is just appalling to me. This is a Board member of the BTCA who is using a rescue group to place her dogs. She is only doing this to save $$$ and it clearly shows her interest is not in the dogs but just in HER breeding program.....besides the BTCA says they have their own rescue so why would one of their board members go through a Scottie Rescue group.

If someone is a breeder and can't be bothered with doing the placement of their own retired dogs then they need to get out of breeding dogs. It is people like this who are only into breeding for one reason...:mad:

This is the second time I have run into this so called rescue group and she is placing breeder dogs...not rescue dogs.


Petfinder is set up for rescue groups and not placing breeder's dogs.

Sorry to have caused such an uproar!

I check Petfinder in my area every day, and when I saw these cutie pies in rescue, I posted them here. I do love little Harley, so I inquired about him. I was told that he is with his breeder, not the rescue, that the rescue works with breeders on a referal basis. I was told that the breeder would be the one that would be placing the dogs, her say on who, when and where.
I didn't get any more info and let it at that. But then this morning, I decided to do a google search on Biewer breeders in this area, and I happen to find the site, and it shows the 3 on the breeders adoption page.

I really don't know how all this works :(

Don't feel bad about posting as it shows how some people will use the word "rescue" to sell dogs or place their retired dogs. This is wrong and is a slap in the face of any reputable rescue organization trying to do the right thing in placing dogs that don't have a home.

Harley is adorable and you would make a wonderful mom for him but you need to be aware of the what is really going on. If you are interested ...he still needs a home where he would be loved.

I came back hoping for an update that they had found homes. These cutie pies certainly can't help any of what the uproar is about. I believe the main focus should be what your good intentions were meant to be.........to find them a Loving Home!!

OMG I can't believe this...I got Bijou from these people! I've always wondered if the lady I got her from in VA was really her breeder. I'm just shocked to see this as I was just looking to see if I can help a friend find a female yorkie. I'm just lost for words right now. I hope that someone on here does get these babies as they need loving homes!!!

First of all, I don't know why anyone says that Biewers should not be in rescue....what makes them different that any other dog in shelters and rescues? I have seen that comment before and it floors me.

But...beyond that:

As for this rescue and this breeder and their activities, I find it beyond appalling. This breeder must be having a problem selling, so now she wants to call her dogs rescues? And, the rescue is going around the protocol to help this breeder? UGH
I will report this to anyone who will listen (sadly, I don't know that Petfinder cares as I have reported a known miller to no avail...they say they cannot get proof yet Adopt A Pet did) , including the IRS since they do have a 501c3 and this is NOT charitible activity imho. If I am wrong, so be it; but I am sick of breeders calling their pups that they cannot get rid of rescues. If they cannot place their pups, they need to stop breeding.

Gennie - you did not get your dog from the same breeder...what is happening here is Scottie Terrier Rescue is listing puppies under their 501K on petfinder as rescue dogs when in fact these are dogs coming from breeders who can't/won't sell them. They are doing everything under the image of "rescue". I am not sure what is really going on but it does not make sense that a Scottie Rescue would be listing breeder dogs unless there is some reward for doing this and if this is the case and it is $$$ then I don't think Uncle Sam would be real happy that are saying they are a non-profit organization.

I think from the breeder's standpoint this is an ethical/moral issue and shame on them for using the cover of "rescue" to hand their responsibilties when it comes to placing their dogs or in this case they are using petfinder as their marketing tool to cover more people to get rid of their dogs. What is especially upsetting is this is a board member of a Biewer Club who says everything they do is in the "betterment of the breed" and to me this is very low class way to handle placement of her dogs. I think everyone would be very upset if a board member of the YTCA did the same thing. Reputable breeders DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!

The "foster" I got Bijou from never gave me her last name. I have to mail her proof of Bijou's spay and instead of her giving me her name and address, she gave me an envelope with her business or kennel name on it...which is Foxcreek and if anyone wants to know they live, it's in Buffalo Junction, VA. I did a search on her physical address (where I picked Bijou up from) and her name (Jessica) and Foxcreek. I found her listing Yorkie puppies on a site called Breeders.net. What I learned from this (thanks to Livingdustmops helping me) was if you want to rescue a yorkie or other breed go with a breed specific rescue group that has a proven track record. It's heartbreaking to think that I probably supported a puppy miller. I can't say that for sure because when I asked Jessica if I could see Bijou's mother since she was still there too, she told me no and that she wasn't playing show and tell (rude, right?) We just signed her little spay agreement form, paid her $500, scooped Bijou up and was shoved out the front door...we were in and out in like 5 minutes. Not something you'd expect from a "foster" right?

My reason for this rant is to hope to educate others by our experience and hope that others don't have this happen to them. It's sad to say but because this happened to me, I will always do more research on any rescue group I consider adopting from in the future.

I am the chairperson for the BBCAR. That is the Biewer Breed Club of America Rescue. If these are really rescue dogs, they can contact me at HELP@BiewerRescue.com. I think this is a very unethical way to throw away your breeders when they can not produce anymore.... We are there for any rescue that needs us... and will be very happy to help this lady IF they are rescued dogs and they are turned over to us.. The BTCA also is supposed to have a rescue.. why are they not stepping in to help in rehoming these dogs?

I think that the rescue that they are listed in should be told what is up with this breeder.. Rescue people work very hard to make sure that the money is there when needed, to set up networks of people to transport and to find foster homes... it is a never ending battle...as I am sure that any rescue person can tell you... We are there when needed. We truly care about the well being of any dog but as you know, each club has it's own rescue for that breed.

When I was breeding and showing Yorkies, I was very involved with rescue and now am again with the Biewer.. If I or our rescue is ever needed, please let us know.. If one of our members did this, they would not be a member for long, I can tell you that... Donna

Did you send her the spay proof? I will bet if she does not receive it, she will never contact you.

People are evil because of their greed for money and animals are a fairly easy way to get it.

I had hoped when I read this thread that you would come forward and tell your story...while the breeders are different the "rescue" is not and everyone should be aware of what this woman from Scottish Terrier Club is doing in the name of rescue. I will tell you it would be very difficult to see what is going on with this rescue but if you go and look at all the dogs she has listed on petfinder there were only two that were scotties and the rest were all othe purebred dogs...the other key is that she states none of these dogs are in her possession. While breeders will turn their puppies over to rescue when they can't sell them..the rescue is not a go between and has physical ownership of the dog. Right now YTNR has two puppies listed on petfinder for $800/$900 dollars. These dogs have been turned over to their rescue organization to place them in a good home.

No Bijou hasn't been spayed yet as she was too young, the huge anastetic recall was posted and she is currently on an antibiotic for colitis. We do have her spay scheduled for Feb. 17th to have it done.

I got a letter for this "foster" from my vet explaining the delay in her spay. I actually sent Erica (lady with the Scottish Terrier Group Rescue) an e-mail and explained the delay to her (as the "foster" Jessica didn't give me her e-mail and honestly, I'd rather not talk to that person ever again). Erica was and has always been very nice, but like Livingdustmops says they all have to be in on this together. It's just so weird.

I'm sure you're right about her not contacting me if I never sent her proof, but I know that I signed a promise to give them proof of it and to me it's important that I follow through with what I promised. Funny to think I still feel this way, since they obviously lied to me, but I have to do what what I feel is right. As I don't ever what to worry that they could try and take her back from me over a simple loop hole. Hope that makes sense.

You are so right. It's so sad!!! I hope that others considering rescuing from them or any other agency learns from this. There are so many evil people in this world that will use the innocent to gain a dollar. You should make a sticky on adopting from a reputable rescue as you are so knowledgable on this subject.

Thank you for being there for me through all this. Bijou and Barley are our loves and though we were suckered by both rescue groups that we got them from, we are blessed to get to share our lives with them!

Why is it that you think Biewers wouldn't end up in a a rescue? Every other breed of dog are in rescues, why not Biewers? It doesn't matter the breed, there are always going to be greeders, breeding for profit and not really caring where their pups end up.

I think what scrappind dee was trying to say is that the biewer clubs have rescue set up and rescues should go to those groups.. Not that biewers are not going to end up is rescue, but that the Biewer clubs should follow through and make sure that they are there when needed... This thread seems to me as though this person is just using the name rescue to get rid of dogs that she did not bond with and quit producing so now she wants them gone.. to make room for new breeders??? ughhh Makes me sick..
