I am hoping that I might find a dog that needs a loving home. I just lost my little casey and I am lost and heartbroken. I do not care about papers or bloodlines, I would love a mixed breed I would be open to any little one that needs a good home, is loving and housebroken. It is just my husband and myself with the occasional visit from the grandkids from out of town.. ages 6 and 8. They are very well behaved. We are active in our church and I visit my mother taking my little companion with me. My husband and I have a large home with a nice yard, (but no fence) Right now I just have a big hole in my heart. Casey and I were together so much especially since my husband works nights. He was my best little friend and such a sweetie. I am in Indiana and really appreciate your time and help. Thank you

I am so very sorry to hear that you lost your little Casey. If you don't mind my asking, what happened? I can't see where you posted anything about it.

Once again, I am so very sorry for your loss. R.I.P. little Casey.

I would suggest doing a search on Petfinder. Most rescue groups and a lot of shelters advertise on there. You can read the pups' bios to get an idea of what each one is like.

When you see one that tugs at your heartstrings, there should be directions on how to go about adopting!

Try Craigslist! That is where I found my Molly. Just make a post and explain what you are looking for. You may or may not get replies. Just remember buyer beware! Be careful about who you get your new baby from!!!

You got lucky if your Molly is ok. I am not a fan of CL. There are so many scams on there.

Please, please be careful if looking for a yorkie on CL!!

If you go to a reputable rescue, you should be given all information needed about the pup; and he/she should be fully vetted!

I'm so sorry to hear about Casey. I'm not sure if you are familiar with Gen's thread about Cookie missing. I've been doing searches looking for her Cookie and I've been seeing so many yorkies on Petfinder.com that need forever homes.

ladyjane- you are very correct I am lucky that Molly is ok. She is in no way perfect. That is why I say you have to be very careful when looking on CL.

With that being said there are a lot of good pet owners searching for homes for their pets on CL. Make it a point to look for the posts that say they want to do vet refrences, home checks, and ask for a reasonable re-homing fee. Look for people who are searching for their pet a home not just looking for the highest bidder.

:thumbup: I would just like to second this. I found my Lilly on Petfinder and now volunteer with the rescue she came from. She was 13 weeks old when I picked her up. She's now going to be 3 yrs. old in September. The upside about adopting is that they are spayed or neutered already, have their shots and vetting. PLEASE though always investigate even a rescue. There are good and bad in everything and a big thing right now are brokers posing as rescues. A red flag is if the rescue has a lot of puppies. Good Luck and I'm very sorry about your Casey. I lost my Jersey last year to a brain tumor. She was only 17 months old. Elaine

My heart breaks for you. It is so hard to lose a furbaby. I've been there.
I will keep you in my prayers.
You sound like a good furbaby mommy with a lot of love to give.
I hope you find a new little one soon to help heal your heart.

I so understand your grief. We lost Hailey on Dec. 23, 2006, and I still cry. She was one in a million. For many reasons, we could not get another, and even if we could have, I wouldn't have. That was right for us. Everyone is different. Sending you prayers.

Thank you so much for the caring messages and suggestions. I am so touched and thankful. I do miss Casey so much. The house is so big and empty at night. At only 5 little lbs. he could fill this whole place up. He had a beautiful little smile. I cant explain the feeling but I think many of you understand.
I have looked on the petfinder site and there are so many little puppies and dogs that need homes it is tragic. I hope we will one way or another have the right little one who needs us as much as we need him come into our lives. Hoping even though we am nervous about it helps.

My demi is from a rescue i found her on petfinder.com as well and she is great :) very healthy too here is a pic of her the day she came home at 8 mos and the next one is her now at 5 1/2 years old

Just wanted to let those who have been so kind how much I appreciate it. We really thought about it and decided to try and adopt a dog who needed a home and might not get one otherwise. We adopted a little boy who is beautiful. The thing that won us over was his sweet disposition despite his circumstances. It was a heartbreaking thing not to be able to rescue them all. He is adorable, it turns out that he was very very ill, with a bacterial infection in his intestine, a open wound from being neutered. A respitory infection,..and three different worms. I dont know how he was even surviving. No wonder he was so docile..he was weak. Thank God for our vet.
Even though we were not actually looking for a purebred it turns out that he is a Chinese crested Powderpuff. But most of all he is our little ozzy now and he is safe. He is only 10 months old and I think we are gonna get through his horrible beginning and have a happy ever after. I am very grateful that I got encouragement to try again and let myself love a little puppy. I was petrified to take the risk, but am so happy that I was able to. :animal36

Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you and Ozzy! He sounds like such a little sweetie, and I love the name. Please post some pics for us. :)

That is wonderful!!! I am in tears reading this post...happy tears for all involved! I would love to see his cute face when you get the chance to take some pictures. :)

What a wonderful thing you did. It is so rewarding to see the difference you make in an animal's life. I'd love to see pictures of your Ozzy.

Lucky Ozzy to now be safe and sound and hopefully very healthy after

I'm so sorry for your loss. You can never "replace" a loved one, but now that you've looked on Petfinder, you will see that there is someone out there who NEEDS YOU. If you decided to apply for any of them, please remember that most of the rescues on Petfinder are staffed by volunteers. It may take days, even weeks to hear back from them. Please be patient. After a few days, I'd given up on hearing back from a rescue I'd submitted an application to. Three weeks later I got an email inviting us up to meet the dog, and now five years of happily-ever-after it is still one of the best things I've ever waited for.

Here is a picture after some meds and a grooming. He still has a way to go on his medications but so far he is responding very well. I am hopelessly smitten.
