just no cats! 1 Attachment(s) As sad as I am, we must start looking to place our guy in a new home. Rusty is an energetic, bright, people lover, who is most definitely an alpha male. He was an expert at pottie training and continues to be perfect at that. The sole problem is that I own two declawed house cats and he just can't cannot resist chasing them at every opportunity. I've tried to my wits end to stop the behavior, but I'm believing now that it may be a lost cause with his personality type. It is now causing enough stress if our family that I believe Rusty would be happier with a family without cats. Rusty has also been raised with a lab who he loves to pal around with but also can be tormenting at times primarily because of the differences in their age and activity levels. We live in the Seattle area and hope that someone out there could enjoy all his other wonderful qualities. He even smiles when you come home! |
1st of all welcome to YT now on with your problem,i have 4 cats and a yorkie, yes she does chase them but as the time goes on and a very small water pistel that i squirt her with when she chases them she is now slowly accepting that they live here too, she is nearly 8 months so still only young by the time shes a adult she should be fine. try not to have to give him away things will get better just keep trying and if he no'es that each time he chases a cat he gets wet he will stop, another thing people try and is suposed to work is filling a small tin with stones and shake it each time he goes near the cats they hate that noise and when he doesnt chase them give him a treat for being a goodboy. hope you can work this out keep us informed wendy and rosie :rose: :yorkiesar |
Our yorkie chases our cat too. sometimes I think she likes it and tries to get him to chase her on purpose. To make the adjustment easier for her, since we had her first, we put up a baby gate at the door to the office and to our bedroom. These two places are her safe haven. Her food and litter are in the office and she spends most of the day in there and then she sleeps in the bedroom with us at night. This way she can get away from our little hethan which seems to really help everyone sanity. I really feel there is a way for all your animals to coexist. they may never become friends and love on each other, but they will learn to get along it will just take time. |
Is it possible that they are all playing together? Dogs ARE known to chase other animals. Lots of members have cats and yorkies and after a while they have gotten used to each other. I wouldn't recommend getting rid of him just because he chases the cats. That's just something most dogs do, and I hope you had taken this into consideration before getting him. He's just doing what feels fun and natural to him. :( :thumbdown |
brownie chases our cats all the time then they chase him back LMAO its pretty funny since my cats is bigger than all the dogs good luck |
My yorkies will chase our cats too. We have gotten them to stop by squirting them with a squirt bottle. You might try it it only takes a couple of times and they get the message and stop. |
please try to keep him!! its natural behavior for them to chase the cats. our yorkie chases the heck outta the cats. we use a spray bottle. when he\'s chasing the cat, just spray him. soon he\'ll get it! |
Awww please make getting rid of him your last resort...try the squirt bottle thing or google it online or something. :( Good luck..and welcome to YT! |
My yorkie chases my cat as well, I had the cat first so I would never give either of them up but I think the cat kinda likes it! I can tell when he is annoyed with her though because he jumps on the table where she can\'t get him. Sometimes I will pick her up so she doesn\'t chase him all the time but after a few mins she gets bored with the cat and comes and plays with me. So if I were you I would try to keep him and do as the others say and try the spray bottle! |
