Rescuing a Yorkie 1 Attachment(s) I am rescuing a female 3 or 4 year old yorkie. She is at a Humane Society near here and she was rescued from a mill. I am picking her up tonight and am so excited to give her a type of home and love that she needs. Poor girl is missing part of her right here but I still think that she is beautiful.Attachment 207247 Not sure if I posted this under the right area but since she is a rescue that is why I did it here. |
Bless you. You are going to bring such joy to this little one's life and vice versa.~ |
Congratulations. She looks like a sweetheart and so deserves a great home like yours. |
Amber, I am so glad you are giving this girl a chance. Is she missing part due to another dog in the mill grabbing her? I just read on another forum that a shizu had her leg ripped off by a pit and the miller did not seak attention for her. She died an hour after being rescued. Your road will be long with this little one as mill dogs often are even afraid of grass under their feet from living their entire life in a cage. If you need help pls. feel free to PM me and I'll help you out with ideas or answers as best I can - also www.puppymillrescue is a good site to book mark. They have a Yahoo group called puppymillrescue. You should join as they have a lot of knowledge and are always willing to help. Best of luck. Elaine |

Congratulations on adopting/rescuing that sweet Yorkie girl. :) :aimeeyork What a wonderful thing you are doing for her. I bet you can't wait till tonight. :D |
Oh and I just noticed I typed her right here and it was supposed to be right ear. Anyway they are not sure what happened with her ear but I will get her all checked out and fixed up. The only other problem she has is that she needs some dental work but I will be more than happy to get that done for her. I just don't understand how people can be so cruel to animals when all that they want is to give and receive love and affection. Thanks for you info on that group and website I will definitely join. And I also want to mention that this humane society was wonderful to work with. They are an hour away but I called and talked to them so they are holding her for me until I can get there, so I went at lunch time and got all kinds of new items for her. I just cannot wait to get her home. |
Awww, bless your heart. I too, would rescue if I wasn't always denied(7 yo son, no fence)...I love hearing stories of rescues. I think she is beautiful. Please take pics of your union tonight and best of luck getting her settled in. |
I will take lots of pics this evening and get them posted. I am just counting down to 4:00. I have been on here for quite awhile doing research on Yorkies and just waiting for the right time and the time is here. |

It is so awesome you rescued this little one. I hope she is the perfect baby for you. Yorkies are so special and I'm sure she will love you for saving her. |
Bless your heart for giving this little girl a chance for a loving filled Life :D cant wait to see more of her ! |
Hope you are doing ok traveling with the weather...I know today was bad by St. Louis, Oklahoma etc. Cant wait to see your new pictures. I am so happy for you and thank you for what you are doing. She is a very lucky girl!! You make our world such a better place!! Keep us up on her homecoming! Congrats! |
We made it home. I will try to get some pics posted soon. We made a trip to the store to buy some goodies and then we came home. She had to sniff the place out and snoop around. She is so skiddish I feel so awful for her and they said she was the outgoing one. But she is getting used to me, she will come to me already. Just a bit ago I took a bath and kept her in the bathroom with me and she was brave enough that she had to stand and watch me, then she would sit back down and when I would go down to rinse off my hair she would jump back up to see where I went. Probably TMI but it was super cute. Her poor feet are absolutely awful. Her pads are swollen and you can tell that it hurts for her to walk. Until we get to the vet this week is there anything that I can do for her? I know it is from only being in a wire crate and it was hard on her feet. She did let me put a collar on her and I was able to give her a bath. As long as I kept my hand on her she was fine. You cannot walk toward her or come up behind her. I have just been lying down or sitting on the floor and holding out my hands until she comes to me - I have been doing that this evening so now she is starting to follow me. This is going to be quite the journey but it will be so worth it. It already made my heart melt when she jumped up to see where I went in the tub. I will post some new pics soon. Thank you all for your kind words! |
Oh it sounds like you two have accomplished quite a lot for your first meeting and getting acquainted!! I am so happy that she is doing as good as she is with you! Her poor little pads from those darn cages...what to do?....I wonder if rubbing them hurts or would feel good with some type of ointment? Are they broken open? I know a little foot rub was awesome for human feet recovering from a foot surgery...but I do not know the case with the little paws?! Maybe someone will have some good ideas for you. Congratulations on your new little friend! |
Congratulations and her paws are extremely sensitive from being on wire only. She will take time to feel confident and your approach sounds perfect. Slowly, slowly, slowly and Elaine and Bettyanne will be a wonderful resource for you. Most mill babies have tremendous trust issues as well as all rescued pups. Good luck and in time, she will trust and languish in the love you have for her. She deserves it. Warmly, Deborah |
BLESS YOU BLESS YOU!!!!! You will be truly blessed for loving this precious baby... She will bring you joy time and time again.... Good Luck! d |
Sounds like you are getting acquainted quickly! I love your little story about the tub, just one of many cute incidents to come! CONGRATS!!! |
Well done Amber. You are giving a little life a new chance and that is so precious. Best wishes from all of us. |
YAY for adopting a mill dog! i too have an ex mill dog. When i brought her home she was so skiddish. She would not come to me or kevin. The slightest movement would send her running!! After about a week she became totally devoted to me. and now a month and a half later she plays with other dogs at the dog park and everything!! She is still very skiddish of new people but hopefully with time we can over come that! |
You are truly an angel. Poor baby must have been threw hell and back. Honey don't use a collar on her. Please get a harness to walk her. They have very delicate necks and pulling on a collar while walking can possiblely due harm to her neck (treah). Wishing you just wonderful loving, happy, funfilled years together. She's beautiful. |
Yeah I will be getting a harness. I just put on a small collar to see if she would even let me put anything at all on her. I was just kind of testing the waters. |

Good for you. Sounds like the two of you will be best bud's soon enough. I can't wait to see how she loves being a little princess. |
How wonderful to bring a sweet little girl that has been so mistreated into a loving home! She will know you saved her and be your best friend for life! I have been to horrible puppy mills and seen cruelty beyond comprehension. I really wanted to make difference and save them all but one person cannot do it alone. It will take a miracle to save many of these puppy mill victims. These babies have never had a soft bed, toys and especially loving arms to hold them. Not to mention what their little bodies will endure. She is one of the LUCKY ones! Hugs to you and your big heart!:hearts-en |
