So? Wanna see the product of bad breeding??? 1 Attachment(s) We have a tiny, tiny little rescue who is unadoptable and will be with her foster "Angel" Mom for the rest of her short little life! She is so totally in love with this little girl and you just can't imagine the care that tiny little Mila requires. It takes a very, very special person to find the tireless energy and patience, not to mention absolute unselfish love to meet her needs, but she does!! The lady who bought her originally was totally unaware what the early signs meant and by the time she knew something was wrong and she couldn't possibly afford to try and help her, it was too late. If we could've only gotten her sooner, perhaps she might have been helped. Mila's story is on our website. We know our own babies ... I beg each of you, if something seems out of the "norm" for your little one, please get that baby to your vet and have it checked! I know all of us have paid vet bills that have seemed unnecessary, but when you weigh the cost .... it's worth it!! If the problem persists and you don't get clear answers from your vet ... find another one!!! And when you are looking for a Yorkie, do your homework and look for those "red flags". Research and research some more! The only way to stop these bad breeders, who don't care about the genetics of the dogs they breed, is to stop buying from them!! If they hesitate to supply answers and proof for every single question you ask, remember, you are the buyer and you're entitled!!! I'm sorry if this sounds like ranting, but this tiny little girl is breaking my heart. |

BettyAnne, I just saw this little one on your site and she breaks my heart. How awful for this little girl. Bless the rescue groups, such as yourself, and the foster homes who give the care and love to these helpless pups. |

Thank you so much! This little one, in particular, just breaks my heart too! |

I will say a prayer that CU can in someway help this little girl have a better life. Is something like this caused from breeding siblings or mother/father to siblings? It's just heart breaking. |

Cause of liver shunt, MVD, etc Research is still ongoing to find the hereditary links to liver shunt. But they are still not sure of how it's passed because it can skip generations. If you are truly interested go to the website for the University of Tennessee. That is where the most comprehensive work is being done to find exactly how this gene is passed. They are convinced that it is hereditary in Yorkies. "Bottom line is we don't know how it's passed. All breeding dogs should have normal fasting and fed bile acids (true normal -- i.e. less than 10 and less than 20; versus "okay as a pet" normal, i.e. 25-40 range). At the very least, dogs that have produced puppies with shunts should not be bred to the same lines (their own or that of the other parent). Obviously the best breeders would never breed the parents again, and they may consider spaying and neutering the littermates as a "just in case" precaution. If, however, shunts are found in all lines of Yorkies, then even that may not solve the problem. " Dr. Karen Tobias In some cases symptoms show up as early as a couple of months, in others not until several years old. If you purchase a puppy, even if from a responsible breeder, be sure to include a bile acid test in your first check up and then again at six months. Sometimes surgery can correct a portal shunt. MVD is hundreds of tiny shunts and cannot be corrected by surgery. Medication and diet is the only known way to help. Finding out if there are under lying causes for the increased bile acid is also necessary because there can be other contributing factors. Diagnostic testing is extremely expensive. We also depend heavily on prayer. Trish www.yorkierescuecolorado.com |
