Can anyone recommend a good harness?
 

My two need new harnesses; preferably leather (either real or faux.. it doesn't really matter).

Does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone use Buddy Belts? I really like the look of them.. but they are so expensive.

ETA: I actually ONLY want leather or something similar.

For a good heavy duty leather one I suggest the BuddyBelt. They are about $30 but they are worth it.

There are some places that will carry it locally as well so check that to find it. They are great because they don't put any stress on the trachea of the dog and they are a good quality hand made leather.

Chattiesmom (Cindy) makes really great harnesses they aren't leather they are dupioni silk, but they hold up very well. She has a thread started somewhere, if you type in the search silk step in harnesses

I may soon have a size 1 or size 2 caramel Buddy Belt for sale. I'm waiting a bit to see which one will best suit Marcel longterm. They've each been worn about 3x - so it'll be essentially new.

What will be the deciding factor as to which goes on sale...only asking because I need to get one for lulu and she is kind of in between sizes. Lulu is 2.5 lbs and 9.5 inch girth and that is somewhere between the one and two.

I was kind of leaning towards the size two in case she puts on a bit of weight...she has recently been spayed and the vet said she might put on an ounce or two.

How big is Marcel?

Marcel is 2.5 lbs and about 9.5 girth! The difference btwn the size 1 & 2 is too much - it's such a jump either way. Marcel needs a size 1.5! He's 7.5 mths. old - so as soon as I get a sense that he's stopped growing, I'll decide which one to keep. I'm really torn. The size 1 fits pretty darn good - but if he grew toooo much, it'd be the wrong size. The size 2 fits, but is really kinda big - but he may grow into it.

There is SUCH a difference btwn the sizes though, you know! I do love the caramel color, btw.

I do think the 2 will work for you - the pain is that you'll probably have to put it on the very tightest notch, which makes for a lot of leftover "belt". If you go size 1, you'll probably use the loosest - which is much easier to take on/off - but if they grow, you're sunk. The diff. in armholes is really apparent as well.

Marcel and Lulu are the exact same size then. I know she is done growing...she has been that size for like two going on three months now. The vet did say due to the spay she might gain a couple ounces but nothing significant unless I over feed her.

Ack...she has twigs for legs....right now I have her shaved down because after her surgery she had a lot of mats and it's gotten so hot. She really is a puny thing.

I called the BB company and the lady suggested the size 1 because she said it might stretch some enabling some growth room. But I remember when I got one for Lex I had to get a size larger than the chart because the belt seemed a bit small. It's hard to buy something for that much that they will grow out of easily.

I think I am leaning towards the size 2. Normally I don't have anything on her ( I take her potty off leash in our backyard) but when we go out I want a good harness on her so the on and off is not too much of a hassle if I have to really adjust it down and have a long tail.

With the size 2 on Marcel when you have it on the tightest setting...is there a lot of room in the girth area?

For Wylies, I should've gotten a size bigger - for Marcel, a size (or, half size, LOL) smaller. The sizing, I think, is so ambiguous bc of the big jump btwn sizes. Frustrating.

On the tightest setting, there is still some room - it isn't "tight" or snug at this point. I almost wish it could go one tighter. The arm holes are pretty big, but are acceptable.

Is there any way you could buy both and then just re-sell the one you don't use? (that's what I'm stuck with)

Are you comfortable walking Marcel with the size 2 on the tightest setting....what I mean to ask is do you feel that if he pulls that he can pull out of it. I don't mind a bit of room especially when the winter comes and I put on a sweater on her.

There is a place in Brooklyn that carries them (where I got Lex's) but she doesn't have any size 1 or 2 in stock. She said she mostly sells the 3 and up and occassionally gets the query for a size 2 which she orders. But if she orders it and it doesn't fit there is no refund since it's considered a custom order.

Yep sounds like our two cuties are in the same boat. Nice tiny couple here.

The belt is definitely worth it. Very comfy for them, well made and very comfy.

Therein lies the rub! I feel...mostly comfortable. BUT, I do worry that if I, god forbid, got into a dangerous situation (ie, w/ another dog or something) and Marcel was going crazy w/ fear - I think there is a chance he could get out of it. With your sweater though, it might fit just perfect.

The measurements I took on Lulu are from now that she is shaved down so with a bit of a coat it will add a bit more girth I guess.

LOL...she has been lonely since I had to rehome Lex (lots of aggression issues with him towards everyone in the house including Lulu. nothing was working so he was rehomed with a friend's elderly mom and that seems to be working out nicely). Her brother lives right around the corner but like you have seen on Sex and the City being a single gal in NYC is rough....he he. She has been looking for that special someone to share long walks and share her holidays with :D Lulu is a modern gal looking for love.

I think I remember you posting about Lex - I'm so glad his new home is going well! That must've been so hard.

Marcel loves long walks, exploring and acquiring "territory". He is a single multi-colored male (SMCM, if you will) seeking a confident, cultured, affectionate female. He is independently wealthy.

Anyone have pictures with the furbabies in a buddy belt?? I have never seen one before, and we are in the middle of a harness crisis trying to find the perfect one!

It's funny because we lost the first Lex to an accident and then a friend of mine had to rehome her doggie which became Lex II I thought it would all work out nicely. Then he showed a bit of aggression and I thought I worked it out with him. Only to have it start back up recently (no changes in our routines so I dont' know why it started) but I tried hard to work with him again ...he was a hard fellow. But when he started up again and attacking Lulu who was only about a fifth of his size and then getting aggressive towards everyone including me for no reason I had to make a hard choice. Now he is an only child with my friends mom and no kids or anyone but him and her and he is in hog heaven. I am so glad it worked out for the best. I can still visit him and he is happy.

Lulu is a single female looking for love and companionship. She is very affectionate and a go getter. She loves those long walks, she is organized (loves reorganizing the toys from one part of the house to the other). She is physically fit and has an athletic build (gets that from dragging stuffed animals twice her size up to the second floor of the house). She loves to take long rides in the car and loves to call shotgun on mommies lap as she is studying for her License. She is a very independent gal that doesn't mind pulling her own weight. She comes from a well off family but she is not a socialite and doesn't mind sharing. Definitely looking for a good man to share her time with :D

Honestly the BB is the best belt I have come across and becuase it's good leather it will last. Just watch that they can't get to it to chew...it's also a nice chew toy. As exhibited by the male I had who ate through one.

I'm giggling out loud here at work! Love the "pulling her own weight" - I'm picturing her schlepping all of her 2.5 pounds around! Too funny.

You have to see her pull this moose stuffed animal up to the second floor. It's the funniest thing ever. I would love to take some picutres but she hates the camera...very camera shy.

The camera broke. I have tried using my cell phone and regular camera...but once I pull it out and she realizes rather fast that she is the center of attention she gets rather indignant. Treats me as though I am the papparrazzi invading her privacy.

They are very good harness Phoebe got one with the bling,bling on it too the only down side is that I stop using it because she was loosing hair under her armpit :eek: just my experience maybe is you use them now and them not all the time like I was doing:aimeeyork

I don't leave the harness on. I use it when we go out and then when we get home she is naked. I think most harnesses (other than the silk one that someone on YT makes) tend to cause tangles and cause hair loss.

I have one for Tetley and really like it, but I wish I would have got a size 2 instead of a 3. He's 4.5 lbs and he wears his size 3 on the tightest hole. He is built very lean however. I'm hoping he puts on another half pound or so before he's done growing (he's 10 mths old).
