Found out something interesting today. A friend of mine brought over her Yorkie/Chi mix to try out the MinkSheen shampoo and it worked horrible! :thumbdown The hair was all poofy and frizzy and the scent was WAY stronger than it ever was on Jaden and Jewelina. I couldn't believe it was the same shampoo that gave me such awesome results! I think with this shampoo it all does depend on your individual dog, whether it works or not...anyway, I thought that was interesting and thought I would share... |

I just ordered. Conner just got his summer cut, so I don't think I will know how it works until some of his hair grows back. |

Seems like you're right that we're discovering that this product works best on silky coats. I actually think that my Mazie has a modified coat, which might be why my results on her were mixed. I have to say though that even for my cotton-coated Kiki, I'm hoping that I can tweak our approach and get this product to work well for her too. Even though I'm not seeing the "sheen" with either of my dogs, the pluses are great: ///coats look exceptionally clean ///all the individual colors in their coats are really POPPING. ///their coats look like they are hanging more "evenly", to me. They stay looking "groomed" longer. ///they are amazingly SOFT. Like bunny rabbits. :D I think (hope!) that using other products along with, I can cut down on the excessive frizziness. As for the SMELL: I saw on another thread where people were complaining about that, and it's interesting to hear that experiences are varied on that, as well. When I first put in on them, it did have a mild "flea shampoo" smell, but this lessened as I rinsed and dried them. I'm not real picky what my dogs smell like, as long as they don't smell like stinky dogs. :D It left a mild "clean" smell on them, and that was okay with me. My husband commented that they smelled like "pine" or "cedar". |
OH....anyway....forgot that I was also going to say! :D You hearing the different experiences with this product is how I always feel about the Cowboy Magic. Other people say they use less than a "pea" sized amount, and their dogs still look greasy. Well, I use NICKEL sized amounts, not once, but several times during the blowdry process....and it works nicely! So true that things just work differently for different people! |

I agree!! I have used the size of a grain of rice on mine and he looks awful afterwards..........like I didn't give him a bath in a month. I use a teaspoon on my poodle and she looks great! I use a nickel size on MY OWN hair and it's silky soft............ |

You know the water thing does bring up a great point! I recently had distilled water filter installed and ran through my water system so that the water that comes out for my bath and show is pure filtered water. I don't know how that affects their coats... I do know when I go to visit my Grandmother who lives in the deep south and her water comes from a well I notice my own hair gets very dry and frizzy while I'm down there and I have to condition it twice as much. When I come back home it gets a zillion times better. It does seem that silk coats get the best results, it's hard to say because I think many people think they have "silk coats" when in fact they may have a modified silk coat. They look almost exactly the same just react differently to some products. I find the easiest way to tell is to take them outside in the summer heat and feel their coat. If it feels warm they have a modified silk coat, if it still feels icy cool they have a true silk coat. I did find the shampoo made them exceptionally clean and the colors really do pop and with my two the shine is insane! It does seem to keep them looking cleaner longer as well and very soft like you said! I would absolutely try some conditioner after the shampoo and see if that cuts down on your frizzie problems. As to the smell, I have noticed maybe peopleout of ALL the people who have tried it make a big deal out of it smelling so god awful  Maybe they have super sensitive noses :p Just kidding, I actually did wonder if perhaps some batches are stronger than others? I know on my friends dog it was MUCH stronger but I have had the shampoo for a while and it's in a huge container so I'm wondering if I got some from the bottom shaken to the top or something  I too smelled the scent when I put it on them and was unsure of it but as I rinsed it off it went away and once I dried them it was gone BIG time and I was just left with a clean cedar type smell, like a wood cabin that was really faint. I mean you literally would have to pick them up and burry your nose in their fur to really smell them. |

You've made a couple really good points there. While Mink Sheen did not work for Tatum at all, there could be reasons. We have well water which could affect the outcome. Also, I may be one of those that think she has a silk coat but it's really modified silk. Her coat is always silky, rarely tangles.... I don't even brush her but maybe every 3 days and she still doesn't get matted. I will have to try the hot/cool thing. I'm trying to remember if I've noticed before after she's been outside sunning herself. I can't remember one way or the other. I'll have to try that out. Maybe she has a modified silk coat and that's another reason it didn't work for her. I can't say I truly hated the scent of the shampoo but I can say it wasn't nearly as "pleasing" as the Pet Silk scent. I will be using Cranberry Fields for her next bath and will see if it works better for us. So far the Pet Silk is good for her.... just curious about whether there is something better. |
We are going to try it everyone looks so pretty! |
This has been a wonderful Product Review. I hope that people continue to post here with their findings. It is so wonderful that there are so many FANTASTIC products out there 'cause the Yorkies, like thier owners are so deversified. I have tried several products that I absolutely love and will probably use again -- Coat Handlers, CranBerry Fields and MinkSheen are my all time favorites. While some people didn't like the smell of MinkSheen, I absolutely loved it. All of my kids except Chizzie (cotton coat) were so shiny that they glistened. Chizzie is never really/truly shiny, but her hair did look nice. |
4 Attachment(s) I bathed Rosi and Poli last night, we are on Well water, cant say i was crazy about the smell when i bathed them, but this morning smell is faint. Took a couple pics last night , they where not 100% dry, but you can see how they shine. They where not matted at all. Was pretty impressed and it rinsed out soo fast, took me half the time to bath them. Have to brush them out today and see how they look. they where outside this morning and got wet ... The last pic is not the greatest as it shows where vet shaved Rosi when she had surgery... |
FINALLY got mine last night, the UPS guy brought it at like 9pm, poor guy! Bath time this afternoon, so we'll see how it goes! Can't wait! |
