| Advice for winter coat & booties It is getting colder in Toronto and I was thinking of getting a winter coat for my baby but I need some help here. How do you determine the correct size and especially the length? Where do the coat usually end? Near their tail or shorter than that? Can someone please post a picture that shows where the winter coat end behind their back? Another thing is, it seems that winter coats for doggies here are really expensive. They cost like Can$40++?? My hubby does not like me to buy stuff for my baby and I really don't think my baby can go out during winter coz sometimes he shivers when we are only out for 10 minutes and its like 5 degrees now. My hubby says if its too cold, don't bring him out but I would really love to bring my baby out here and there. I would buy one for my baby behind my hubby's back but if it is too expensive, he will eventually know. And also for winter boots...how much do they usually costs? I saw some that costs like Can$30+?? Again, that is too expensive. Does anyone have recommendations? Can I make it myself? What kind of material do I need? Thank you for any advice. |

| fido fleece is wonderful and affordable a coat for a yorkie in winter is a neccesity. they are single coated dogs and they can get frostbite. in 5 degrees their belly needs to be covered. my favorite coat is fido fleece. they are on sale at sitstay.com they are inexpensive and very warm. as far as measurements follow their measurement guide. romeo's jackets come up before his tail. if i get them to his tail he pees on them. i don't have pics. sorry my computer plug thingy is broken. http://www.sitstay.com/store/clothing/coats1.shtml

| Here is a site where they make cute sweaters http://www.marilynscreations.citymax.../988829.htmand coats at very good prices. Also, you may want to try www.barkindogclothes.com Rena can make a sweater or coat for your furbaby, you get to pick the fabric and can customize it. The prices are great too!! I buy from her all the time and so do other YT members, her work is great!!!

| I would check out eBay as most sellers will most likely ship to Canada.

| Hope this helps... I've been looking online myself for pet boutiques in toronto (moving there on the 4th) and I've found a few... if you can find something in a store then you can at least save yourself the shipping and customs fee! Metro Hound - http://www.metrohound.com/doggear.htm - 1003 Kingston Rd. Downtown Fine Pets - 595 Bay st. Petopia - www.petopia.ca - 265 Bartley Drive John Andrew Pet Spa and Boutique - www.johnandrewforpets.com - 31 The Links Road (quite expensive though, but maybe worth checking out) Bark and Fitz - 2570 Yonge St. (I loooove this place - I go to the one here in Mississauga all the time - they get new stuff in a lot - but again, kinda pricey) Bobo Canada - http://www.bobocanada.com/ - 777 Bay St. (Bay/College) Chic Boutique - 128 Harbord St. Places outside Ontario, but within Canada (again, no customs fees this way) www.coconapoleon.com (Alberta) www.poshpup.ca (BC) I'm sure you know of a lot of these places (if not all of them) but I hope you find what you're looking for. It's true, winter coats for these guys are crazy expensive. I just ordered some coats for Ruthie from www.purecountrypetboutique.com (I asked them to mark the package as a 'gift' so that hopefully I wont get stuck with customs fees, but we'll see how that goes). Their prices are really decent (shoes for 12.99, coats $19.99 or less). Maybe you can find what you're looking for there...

| target also has some cute coats.... but I really don't like the ones that have velcro on the underside. I haven't had very good luck with them. Their hair gets caught up in it. So you may watch out for the ones with velcro on the belly side. |

| I got a cheap one last year from Old Navy for $15 that was absolutely sufficient. This year we splurged on a $50 THICK fleece coat. The fido fleece is great too - we just found one with a better design that we liked. You just measure neck to tail and then order that size. Loki is 13" neck to tail and we got him a size 12. They *should* account for the cut on the bottom so that it fits properly and they won't pee on it. You can also use a chest measurement to make sure it will fit properly - sometimes I go down or up a size to make sure it fits in the chest.
