What is the best harness for Yorkies? Wondering if anyone has any advice what the best harness is for a smaller Yorkie. Annie weighs 4.5# and her neck is only 6.5#. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. |

Buddy belt user here and we love them. |
Buddy belt here too!!! :) |
I love the buddy belt because you can wear it over clothes without having to adjust anything complicated. The buckle is easy to use, unlike some of the plastic things that you have to get just right. It’s strong and comfortable, and gets better with age like good leather should. Buddy Belt Dog Harness |

I like the Buddy Belt also the Choke-free. The Buddy Belt has lots of metal hardware, whereas the Choke-free does not. With longer coats I tend to prefer the Choke-free, if no long coat, either one works about the same for me. Chattiesmom on YT makes silk step-in harnesses I've heard others rave about. |
I like Buddy Belt and Puppia the best. :) |
Is you dog full grown? I understand that many like the buddy belt and i can understand why but if your dog is not full grown you may want to wait until your dog is full size before you invest in a buddy belt. I have used the Puppia Step vest harness while mine was growing. It has adjusted to her as she grew. The measurements for the buddy belt are a bit more exact. I guess if your pup out grew it you could try to sell it. It was a financial decision for me and the Puppia worked well for me. |
Well, Annie is 8 months now. Do you think she will be growning much or should we expect her to stay about the same. I am having a hard time deciding what size. She weighs 4.5# has 11-1/2chest. Any suggestions, I take her to work daily with me and need something that she will be comfortable in. She does wear clothes so wondering if the 3 would be too bulky or 2 too small. BTW she is spayed if that makes a difference. Thanks again for all your help. |
I would wait. Kaji had a growth spurt between 12-18 months. He didn't get his buddy belt until his third birthday. Meanwhile, we were using cloth ones, similar to the pippia harnesses, but the ones sold at Petco. I liked those because they didn't chafe my crazy puller, but the fit was always off. I'm much happier with my buddy belt, it fits like a glove. :) |
I wish I knew the brand, but I have tried zillions of harnesses and one I found at Wallmart for $10.00 was great, it is heavy duty cloth, like a mini vest, dog's front legs step in and then the neck has a wide buckle that snaps easily in the back, on each sid there is a ring, the leash clips on to both rings. Then lower down the back is a wider area that has velcro on the top of the back, extremely secure. I have several all velcro harnesses that snap underneath the body and eventually they seem to weaken, hair gets trapped in it, and your run the risk if you have a dog that likes to chase things or if you need to lift them up suddenly that the velcro comes undone. I will try to get pics and post. |
I have one like the one bought at Walmart. I got mine at Petco. I think my boy is between sizes and none fit too well. I really liked those they seemed sturdy. |
Soft Vest Dog Harness by Puppia - Royal Blue at BaxterBoo this is not the brand I bought, but the style is the same, this site has them for 29 but another web site had them for $20.00 but this site shows a better picture. What you do is pull those two D rings together and clip the leash through them, to me this is the most secure and comfortable harness, my little girl is 6 pounds and pull hard if she see something she wants to chase. I did see an earlier post mention this bran above Puppia. The one I got from walmart say Lulu, it's darling because it is hot pink with white polka dots. i also have the same style that I bought at big lots, I cut the tag off and the only markig is an SD, oh how I wish I bought extras........ |
I use the Ceasar step in harness for Mac. He is 5lbs and i just put his little legs through it and snap it together on his back. (i got it from Petco) |

I chose to get Sugar's to fit perfectly underneath her clothing and attach the lead from underneath. Doesn't ruin the look of the outfit that way ;) :D:D Attachment 360965 |

Vote for BB also. |
I use the Choke Free exactly like the one Sugarmamma posted with Roxie. We have used it for over a year now and it still looks and works great. I did buy and extra in case anything ever happened to it. I like it that much. We have tried lots of other step-in harnesses, but Roxie would either chew through them or they just did not last. Love the Choke Free! As Sugarmamma also said, it lays flat so I use it underneath Roxie's clothes, sweaters, etc. |
Pet Collars and Harnesses that do not choke dogs and cats. This is what I use,it works great,Max never chokes! |
I always come back to Puppia soft harnesses. This one: |
Does the Buddy Belt size chart run true to size? Did you need to go up a size? |
Where can you find the choke free? Could someone please post a link? |
