| I'm not a first time dog owner, but I am a first time yorkie (well yorkie mix, but he's got a yorkie personality I've been told) Anyone recommend books specific to Yorkies or that are just good books in general for dog, or small dogs? I've read : The Art of Raising a Puppy- by the Monks of Skete --this book was recommended to me by another dog owner and is a great all around book on raising a puppy, gives different ages, a lot on socialization, training, etc great philosophy on how to raise dogs Little Dogs: Training Your Pint-Sized Companion --this book was pretty good, a lot of common sense and could go into more details Imagine Life with a Well Behaved Dog :A 3-step Positive Dog Training Program --this I've heard good things about but I have only just started I've also read tons of websites. anyone recommend any other training or dog websites? Anyone Have recommendations on books that cover training, puppies, small dogs, grooming, nutrition, obedience... just anything about dogs? thanks Last edited by YorkieMiki; 01-04-2012 at 12:34 AM. |

| At www.Half.com you can get used (but nice) books cheap... I bought every book written about Yorkies I think, Lol! Positive reinforcement works best with most Yorkies... there's videos on u tube to watch, and some videos in the YT Library I believe....

| I loved "The Idiots Guide to Yorkshire Terriers". There's also "YT for Dummies". They were very informative, easy to read & reference something later on. The stuff I never found in books I'd google & end up here, the info you can get on specific, first hand experience is great. You can usually search for what you want to know & find lot's of threads about it. I'm definitely going to go check out the website, thanks Kathy.

| Donating YT 500 Club Member | I have several books on yorkies and two I would recommend are: Barron's Yorkshire Terriers (it's a good basic pet owner's book) and The Book of The Yorkshire Terrier by Joan McDonald Brearley (much more extensive information, with lots of yorkie pictures). Also, can't forget to mention all of the good information in our YT library.

| I'm a first time Yorkie owner and recently read YT for Dummies. Sounds silly but it is actually really informative and easy to follow. I read a lot of stuff in there that I saw people discussing on here (plus a whole lot more). Definitely a solid start for any beginner! |
