Help with finding a good harness I have looked in the pet stores and can't find a harness that is not really hot. It's so hot here in South Texas that I don't want him sweating. Any ideas? |
My favorite for Peyton is a step in puppia. i only put it on when i take her out |
I will look at those. Do you buy them on line? |

on ebay look for someone who is selling them that have a good return or exchange policy in case you dont like the fit. |
Check out the step in Mutt Gear Harness. I love these and they have been very durable for me. You can order them online for around $18-$20. |
I like our plain ole' black nylon step-in harness from Petsmart for hot days... was around $10, I think. I use Puppia most of the other times but it does seem like it would be hotter in one, even though the mesh is pretty light. I *just* purchased the leather Choke-Free harness and will be trying it out this weekend, just got it today. It seems pretty comfy and non-restrictive. A lot of people swear by Buddy Belts, too, and I really loved the one we tried but unfortunately, the sizing just did not work for Jackson. |
I have an escape artiest and I have been using the Puppia step in vest harness. I don't think it's hot. It is available in nylon or cotton. The cotton ones are a bit more expensive. Mine cost $22.00 but some places sell them for as much as $32.00. I bought mine off Amazon. I know she cannot get out of this and she has learned to love it as she knows when she sees it that she is going out! |
I have recently bought a "Shoulder Collar" like this: http://www.gollygear.com/shldr_col.h...FQVrKgod8F12aw for Charlee...and I love it! It fits her really well, is made of very soft, light leather and she doesn't mind it at all. I was having some issues with the other step-in harnesses as at 5lbs she was able to get out of them. I had also tried a Buddy Belt, but I found it was breaking her fur. Of all my "trials" ( I have a bit of a harness/collar/leash fetish...constantly looking for the newest or most "perfect" one)...it is the one I like the best. Currently she wears it all day, and I only remove it at nights. Doesn't seem to causing any discomfort or problems with her coat. |

We use a Buddy Belt. I love it....Snickers would personally love to go "naked", but I make him keep his Buddy Belt on most of the time. I don't think you need to worry about sweating....from my understanding, dogs don't sweat from their skin all over like we do. They sweat from their foot pads, but temperature is mostly regulated through panting. |
We use puppia's harness vest. We love it! |
Chloe uses the Bessie and Barney harness. It is very soft and airy. I do not leave it on her all the time. Do you have a Natural Paws pet store close to you? I found Chloe's at Natural Paws. We live in the Houston Metro area so I know what you are talking about, when you say heat. Chloe's harness is silky on the outside and mesh next to her skin so it is very breathable. |

I just bought a Goobey harness for Nilla at at local pet boutique. They're supposed to be good about not pulling on their throats. She has a cute little collar, but she tugs when we walk and she's just so small that I don't feel comfortable dragging her around. It seems pretty lightweight and breathable to me, but I don't take her out very much because she's young. Worth a try, they're not too expensive! |
I also use a 'choke-free' shoulder collar like the one Sweet Girls gave a link to for Roxie. She seems to tolerate it better than any others. She has chewed through several harnesses but hasn't bothered this one at all. I am able to leave it on her most of the day, only taking it off at night or if she is crated for any length of time. I love it. I got mine from Jenny (mimimomo) who is a member of YT. She is great to order from. |
