Need outside kennel recommendations Does anyone have any recommendations of how to contain Betty Boop in a small area outside? My yard is fenced, but it is large. The problem is that she is eating sticks, pecans, acorns, monkey grass, ferns, etc., etc., etc., You name it, she'll be taking a bite of it!:eek: I'm guessing this is what made her sick this past weekend where we had to take her to the ER for very bloody poop. I want to create an area just for her that is as slick and as clean as a baby's butt.....somewhere she can go potty and exercise. I want it large enough so she can play and also that I can move around inside with her! I don't want her getting lonely. :D I imagine I'll be down on all fours trying to convince her that she likes her new "area". :) I thought about going to Petco or Petsmart and looking at their outside kennels. Might have to wind up having someone come in and build a chain link fence. |
I think you'd be happier with a chain link if you can have it off of a back doorway. It would probably be cheaper in the long run and save you a lot of hassle with taking her out. That way you could just walk out with her. Someone could put up a chain link in no time anyway. |
You have to be careful that there are no gaps between sections of any fence big enough for the baby to squeeze through. If there are predatory birds in the area you might also look at putting a top on it. I was looking at some outdoor catteries and aviaries the other day that looked pretty nice. |
I live on 3 acres unfenced and have been looking into fencing ideas for Jackson. I've found a few 'deer fencing' type things that will probably work. I have yet to do it. But was going to make a big rectangular area for him to run in supervised. You can get metal posts, or wood, and use twisty-ties to attach them to the fencing. Similar to this type of stuff: Tenax 3 ft. x 15 ft. Black Hardware Net - 751397 at The Home Depot http://www.acehardware.com/product/i...602631.1260448 |

Thanks for the catteries idea. I would never have thought about them. BTW, how is Tallulah doing? She is a real cutie pie! Quote:
I looked at your links. Are these materials floppy or sturdy? I may have missed the description of them, but will go back and look. Thanks! |
1 Attachment(s) I built a makeshift fence for Cooper from materials I bought from Lowes. I bought these Shop Garden Zone 29in x 38in Empire Fence Base Unit at Lowes.com and used their fitted iron stakes to secure them into the ground. Cooper was about 7 pounds when I built this and felt secure that he wasn't going to get out. If the spaces seem to wide, you can perhaps try something like this?: Shop Garden Zone 44in x 71in Decorative Leaf Design Garden Fence Panel at Lowes.com but I'm not sure how that goes into the ground. |
Thanks for asking. T is doing great. Developing a personality and I think she will be a spunky but oh- so-loving dog. I'm still trying to figure out what will motivate her in training. Her attention span is short but maybe that's her age... |

1 Attachment(s) I just use 2 expens joined together and it gives them enough room to walk around in. I only have this pic where you can see a little of the ex pen. But it gives them a nice area to be in when I am out side. None of mine are jumpers so it works for them. |

1 Attachment(s) I use a couple of these sets, you can add as many panels as you want and use tent stakes to ground them. Lightweight plastic, great for camping and everything, they break down to one panel width. |

Wow! I went to Lowe's and bought a roll of 50 feet for about $40 of 2 foot high green plastic coated fencing and use it according to whatever I need at the time....it's that portable! You need some 2 foot high fences stakes, which they sell, to keep it rigid and in place. My four pups are 4 and 5 pounders and not inclined to climbing or jumping so that may make a difference, but it's great to just enclose whatever I need today and maybe change tomorrow! They're grazing on the acorn crop right now too! |

You may want to keep the kiddos away from the acorns however...they are poisonous to dogs. |

we make ours into a long rectangle |
Exactly! that's the reason I keep moving the enclosure.....we've gotten to the point where we exchange an acorn for a treat when we come back in the house! |

I've been looking for a fence for the front yard where the front door is. We live on a main street very busy with a lot of drag racers. I'm always afraid that when we open the door the puppys are going to run out and into the street. I am going to talk to my contractor. |
I had the front door problem too! Had to think INSIDE the box instead of outside.....took our X Pen, opened it up, made it into a big "U" around the front door, IN the house, with the one panel next to the wall on the side that the door opened for a people gate, once they were in the house and the door safely closed. No dashing out now and if the visitor stays on his side of the fence at first, it calms the dogs till all is quiet! |

lol I already told the hubby too! But as I told him cheaper ATM till spring time for an entire closure with fencing |
