Harness Hi Everyone! I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I have recently become a new "Mommy" to our sweet little yorkie puppy. We were having troubles finding a harness that fit our new little girl. Bought a "Lil' Pals" harness but did not like the way it fit around her neck. So, after reading here I found suggestions of getting a ferret harness. I bought a ferret harness and it fits my little girl perfectly. Today, when I took it off of her, one of the plastic clasps fell apart. No fixable. So, since I had not had this very long, took it back to exchange at the store where I originally bought it. I fear the same problem will happen, with the plastic clasp falling apart again. I do sew but have not found a pattern small enough to make my little girl a new harness. I also need to find the webbing and plastic clasps. I have checked online and have not found supplies that I need yet. I know since my little girl will remain small even as an adult, I could just use velcro only for closures. I like the "security" of having the clasps also. Questions I have: Where to find a pattern to make a xs harness? Where to find plastic clasps? And are there any stores where I can actually find a harness that will fit my little girl? I have checked most of the local pet stores for an xs harness. Have not found anything that will fit her, other than the ferret harness. I have actually scanned this harness that I may use as a pattern. Just don't have a clue where to find the webbing and clasps. I do design, do ALOT of sewing and also machine embroidery. I am sure I can figure out something similar to this ferret harness. Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions. |
hi there and congrats on your new baby. Cindy, Chattiesmom makes harnesses. Here is a link to her site. She's gotten rave rewiews and her work is beautiful! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...elections.html |
I agree I have three harnesses from Chatties mom ( Cindy ) and they are wonderful. She will custom make them to your babies measurements to ensure they fit properly. They are also adjustable so when your pup grows they still fit for awhile. I have used different harnesses and have found the ones from cindy are best. Since they are made from Duponti silk i dont have all the hair breakage i always had with other harnesses, and she can do a matching leash. |
I also have 2 harnesses from Cindy. they are easy walk harnesses...my little ones are pullers and they can not pull if the leash is attached to the front "d" ring. I LOVE them! and she does a great job! |
Have to throw in another vote for chattiesmom harnesses. They are the best I have found and I have tried many. |
Thank you to all that referred me to one of the members here that makes harnesses. After looking closely at the harness that my "baby" is wearing I feel this type works best for her. So, I think I will use this harness at a "pattern" to make several for "Princess" to wear. I just need to find the webbing and clasps. I have checked local fabric stores but all I have found it too big for the clasps and too wide for the webbing. I will check online on Ebay and Etsy to find the supplies I need. I do appreciate the referral for having a custom made harness. |
Not sure what sizes you need but try these it might be what you are looking for Webbing for Purses, Bags, Backpacks, Leashes and More! Side Release Buckles, Hardware for Sewing I would love to see pictures of your finished harness. I love to sew for my little girl, also. |
Thank you for the information to buy the webbing and quick release buckles. This is exactly the information I have been searching for. I will share photos of what I create for my girl once I have a few things made. I LOVE to sew and design things. I have found some really cute patterns for "clothing" for both of my puppies and also for beds, snuggle sacks, etc. Just received 2 new patterns this week for new dog beds. I have ALOT of fabric to make things and can hardly wait to make things for both of my "babies"! |
When Addie was really tiny, I bought the Gentle Leader harness/leash set for kittens. If fit PURRFECTLY - LOL! The leash has some bounce back material in it, so if you have a runner, beware. Addie took a couple of tumbles on the leash after racing to the end of it. But really, it was a great set and even survived her chewing on it. |
I used puppia step in harness vest xs for Duke when he was a baby. |
I have most of the popular harness that is in market:rolleyes:, BB Buddy Belt Dog Harness Leather Harness For Small Dogs, Dachshund Harness, Pet Harness, Puppy Harness is the one I keep using the most, and is because you can wear it under or top ot the clothes with out you have to be adjusting it all the time, regarding if the clothes have a hole for it, is leather made, and very strong:thumbup::thumbup:, because is leather I don't use it in the beach for that I use the cetecea Cetacea Corporation - Pets :: Step-in Harness I love chastiesmom harness too:p ps. I have a small yorkie Melody and all of this harnesses fit her well:aimeeyork |

TheNewYorkDogShop.com they are so comfortable, I don't use them in the summer times, and they don't have a small one enough for Melody, that is the only down site of it:aimeeyork but they last long time:thumbup::thumbup: and you don't heard them shocking either like other harnesses:( |
This is a good site to buy what you need to make collars or harnesses. Make sure you always buy the welded D rings. Dog Collar Buckles, Snap Hooks, Metal D Rings, Nylon Webbing and Kits for Collars |
You can also buy "cast". Either way, there is not slit that the fabric can slip thru. ;) |
