Shiny Coat I noticed on the last dog show the Yorkshire Terrier had the most beautiful shiny coat. My Yorkie, Mr. Darcy just turned one, but his coat does not shine, and 'flow' that way. Is there a safe product I can use on him? Thanks, |
I've been using pantene pro v shampoo and conditioner on my dogs for a while as well as my mom uses it on hers and I like the way they feel and smell after. As for shine, I give my dogs Salmon/Fish oil vitamins and I can definitely see their coats shinning! I just bought some Bio groom shampoo yesterday and used it on 2 of my dogs, 1 being a yorkie and she feels great, shines and smells awesome! :D |

Just a bit of info on coat. Soft Coated/Wooly Coats do not reflect light, never will become shiney. |
Shiny Coat I have been using a natural puppy shampoo since I was afraid of 'soap in his eyes!" Mr. Darcy's coat is soft. I get him groomed once a month, and the groomer says he has a nice coat although he does get little 'tats' sometimes, which I can easily comb out. I was wondering what food you use? if you don't mind my asking..... |

But, what I tell my new families....."You can buy the most expensive food on the market, but if they don't eat it, what good is it" |

Agreed. I've noticed you are very knowledgeable on yorkies so I have a quick question. Yorkies have hair rather than fur right? Is their hair the same as humans? And yes, the sad thing is a lot of supermarket brands are chock full of the stuff because it's cheap and is a temporary fix. I swear by redken. Unbeatable IMO..Only other greatie is Natural Look, I use their blonde shampoo on my mate's maltese...She has the softest, silkiest, whitest coat you'll ever see on a maltese x! :D |

Funny you should mention Redkin.....because it's what I use.....all dependent on the texture. I use every one they provide; Smooth Down, Extreme, Light Moisture and Body Full. What I haven't tried is the Blonde; for obvious reasons. But, I have groomed Maltese and have added 2 % cream developer into the shampoo and followed with a heavy moisturizing conditioner. |

Your yorkies' coats are stunning! Full, thick, shiny. (Nothing makes a yorkie more unattractive than when they have a very thin coat..No matter how shiny or soft.) I just Real Control..I was planning to buy All Soft and Extreme..Then I found out that Real control is actually half and half! Saved a lot of money there. I alternate between Real control's conditioner and All soft's one so my hair has the perfect balance of moisture and protein. Sorry for stealing the thread guys! |

Good to know I'm educated on something..You ladies make me feel so ignorant with your breeding banter...Not that it's a bad thing lol! I think most of it comes down to genetics, exercise, diet, general health etc. However if your hair is already dry...Pantene= Very bad idea lol. |

Oh! I believe that is probably true about Pantene. I am confused though, are you saying you are using the Redkin on your dogs? The only products that I have ever found labeled for human/animal use is a product line called Cowboy Magic. I used it on my horses, and loved the results so I used it on myself and wowzers it is awesome stuff, but pricy. I do use a Cowboy Magic leave in conditioner on my dogs that makes their hair unbelieveably soft, manageable, and shiny. (it would probably give me the flyaways!) |
