best harness Ok our first purchase is going to be a harness. Haylee does good outside but if she hears a noise at all she takes off. She is only 8 weeks well almost 9 weeks old and can move like the wind. What is everyones favorite harness for puppies? While I want one that is very cute I also want to get one that is comfy for her too. I can't wait until she is big enough to wear some cute clothes and barrettes. Guess I had better start saving my money huh. Also Graff needs a new harness or collar soon also. |
It is so much fun to go shopping for these little furbabies.. There certainly are alot of options when it comes to harnesses. For me I like the ones that are like clothing and functional at the same time. :) I offer some on my website if you would like to take a look. www.******************.com These are all I use on my furkids. Have fun on your search and post pics of Haylee when you get her new harness... :) :) |
4 Attachment(s) I also sell harnesses: http://www.tinkerbellscloset.com/ . Most of mine are $12 with the YT discount. I can line them in satin to keep them from mating your dogs hair or fleece to help keep them warm in the winter. I can also add a d-ring to almost any of my dresses or coats to turn them into a harnesses. I have attached some pictures below. I always enjoy dressing up my dogs and I think harnesses are a fun way to keep it functional yet cute! |
I know your yorkie is small, but for anyone with a bigger yorkie or one that pulls hard, I like these: http://barkavenuepetboutique.com/Flexi%20Harness.html |
I saw that they had them for small as well... :) But I think they are a bit pricey.. Our Destiny pulls like crazy whenever we go for a walk for about the first 15 minutes. It was because of her that I started really reinforcing my harnesses. :) |
Joy, When it comes to their safety, I don't consider $30 pricey, especially since it would probably last a lifetime or close to it if it was necessary. How do yours connect? Is it velcro or what? :) I would love to put a pretty little harness on mine, but safety is my primary concern. Muffin was a bigger yorkie and so is Kacee... |
Hi, yes they are attached by velcro and when I first started using it believe me I had my concerns.. I never knew velcro could be that sturdy and that secure. Truelly I am impressed with that stuff.. I also agree about the safety issues.. We took all three of our pups for a walk one day and a big Pitbull ran toward us.. I was scared to death. So, I pulled up on the leashes, and all you could see were these 3 Yorkies flying through the air.. I couldnt get them in my arms fast enough. So, I know that the velcro works very well and feel very comfortable and know my furkids are safe..Which like you said is my primary concern.. :) :) |
But aren't your yorkies small one's, Joy? As I said, I've only had bigger yorkies. That's what I was asking also. :) |
Oh, Im sorry.. I missed that..:) Yes, my Yorkies all weigh around 5 to 6lbs. But... I have sold many of my harnesses to larger Furbabies and Have only heard good things. I even have a lady with a pug and she only uses my harnesses. The only way that I know that the harness comes undone is if the velcro was not attached straight when the harness was put on. Other than that they hold "very" well for all sizes..:) How big is Kacee? |
I have an 8 pound maltese that I have ripped up into my arms as well while she was wearing a harness that I made, fastened with velcro. They do stick like glue. I have had a few other people ask me to do rather large ones for their 10-15 pounders, I was apprehensive at first and did express my concerns to the first person who wanted the harness. She said to go ahead with it and she'd try it out. Well, she emailed me later on to tell me that it did hold very well. Now, I did use a strong fabric with no stretch to it, not just plain cotton or flannel, and used mega hold velcro just to be sure, but it does hold well. We have lots of people here who sell great stuff for our dogs, shanatink, joy, myself, imapreciouspup and a few others, I can't remember. I'm sure you will find what you are looking for. And most of us offer discounts to YT members! Congratulations on your new puppy! |
Kacee is at 7.2 lbs right now and is 5.5 months old. I'd love to put one of your type harnesses on her, but I doubt is she's through growing yet. :D |
I agree about the safety. I use long velcro straps that are at least an inch wide. But when it comes to the safety of your dog, I wouldnt compromise at all. I think you have to do whatever feels the safest and definetly money isnt an issue as our furbabies are priceless. I think those mesh type harnesses look very comfortable and safe for the dogs. :) |
i went in tinkerbell closet for harnesses for $12. did not see any for that price.. where are they for that price ? i would love to get some. |

They are generally $14.99 and I offer a 20% discount. SO the $12 price is after you take off the 20%. :) Sorry for the confusion. To get the discount you just enter the coupon code YT20 during the checkout. |
Just to put mine out there as well... I have harnesses ranging in prices from $10.00 to $15.00 ... These prices include the Tax and the Shipping... :) :) |
Thanks Joy and everyone else for responding to my concerns. I really, really appreciate it. It's a question I've had for a long, long time, but never would have guessed I could use them. My fear level is pretty high, because the traffic in front of our house travels at some pretty high speeds, even though the speed limit is 40. :( We always walk along the side street and in our yard (which is an acre), but if she got out of her harness, I don't know what I'd do! :( |
I love the BELLA harness dress & the Susan Lanci Designs Harness. BOTH can be way pricy, but I really love the designs. The BELLA's can be found on Brooke's site, www.imapreciouspup.com and the Susan ones can be found on www.gwlittle.com but I have had good luck finding them a bit cheaper on eBay. |
They have a lot of nice harnesses at www.gollygear.com including the Susan Lanci ones. I want one of the suede susan lanci ones so bad, but I just haven't been able to part with the money yet. Maybe once he stops growing. |
What does a susan lanci harness look like? I couldnt find it on brookes site. |

I don't 'think' that Brooke sell Susan Lanci's. Here is a link to the gwlittle site, http://www.gwlittle.com/catalog.php?sec=11&cat=45 the pink bow w/ rhinestone and the daisy with bumblebee are part of her collection and the 2 that I own. They are the cutest!!! I get so many compliments on them. She has a lot but I wanted for you to at least see some. Sara |
Oh I have seen those! Thanks for posting the link :) |
I will be getting them, theyre gorgeous!! |
How snug? How snug is a harness supposed to be? I have the ordinary kind with straps. |
I love the harness that Jodi made me. Stewie is over 7lbs and its still very sturdy. |

I have ordered from both Joy and Brooke and loved their clothing. Joy made a really sturdy harness for my Gus,,,,, mind you he's only 2.9 lbs. I have yet to order from Shanatink, but plan to very soon. |
1 Attachment(s) I have just added the mesh harnesses to my website. They are $20 after the 20% off YT discount if anyone is interested. |
4 Attachment(s) Here are four of my Harnesses. What do you think? They are $15.00 and that includes shipping. :) |
http://www.nkconcepts.com/vestharness.htm That one is awesome. Chewy loves it much more than his older harnesses. It goes off an on easier than any other harness I have seen, he wears it full time, and it's built with a seat-belt loop in it so that you can buckle up your little buddy. Very durrable and extremely comfortable all-around harness. Strongly recomended. |
Where do you put their tags? When they're wearing harnesses, where do you put the tags. I put Susan's on the back but that doesn't look right to me. Where do most people put them? While we're on the subject, do your dogs wear their rabies tags all the time? What about their AKC find a dog (whatever it's called) tag? What about a name tag? Isn't that a lot of tags? I've thought about putting them on her leash but leashed dogs don't get lost as often as unleashed dogs because they're easier to catch. I thought about only putting the tags on when we go out, but dogs don't get lost when you're prepared for them to. If you knew they were going to get lost, you wouldn't let them. What's safe, practical and doesn't look too weird? |
