[News] Alligator Kills Yorkshire Terrier Our dry weather is leading to more alligator sightings in Central Florida and Tuesday, a dog became the latest victim. Investigators in Daytona Beach say an alligator attacked a Yorkshire terrier at a lake in the Grand Champion subdivision. Police say the dog's owner was taking pictures of a golf course, when the dog went to take a drink at the lake and was pulled under. The owner went into the lake to try to save the dog but it was too late. Officials say our current drought is forcing gators out of their current locations, as they hunt for water. Wildlife workers are now looking for the alligator, which is believed to be between 8 and 10 feet long. http://www.cfnews13.com/News/Local/2...e_terrier.html |
The news has been warning us about this. I've seen quite a few because of the drought. Poor little guy. In our area 3 people have died in the last fews years from attacks. |
OMG how devastating!!! Poor baby!!!!! |
Makes me happy that I live in the frozen north of Canada:D At least our animals aren't that sneaky , mostly you see them coming and still can't do anything about it. Wolves and bears and eagles oh my! |

 Oh My Gosh, that's horrible. :( I remember watching the TV show COPS one night and they were in Florida. A homeowner had called them because an alligator was just laying in their carport and he wouldn't leave. :2omg: |
Poor yorkie and his owner :( |
Makes me feel better that I had fried alligator last weekend! |
OMG so sad.....I feel so horrible for that owner. I could not even imagine!! |

That's heartbreaking. Poor pup and owner. Good reason to live in NY. |
We love Florida!! We live in Florida and live right on a small lake that does contain alligators. We added a run for our Yorkies, and they are not allowed out of it. We also have a pool and put in a child-proof fence, and don't allow the dogs out in either aera without supervision. We also have a boat, and we have life jackets that each young loved one, canine or grandchildren must wear before PaPa starts the engine. If you live in this state you MUST just be very careful with your Yorkie, just like people who live in other states must be careful about other dangers. I can honestly tell you that my babies have never had cold feet from the snow!! |
My Toto loves the snow I guess he would have to considering we get 6months of the stuff, but to-day it's 90 outside and I feel uncomfortable. He's going in to the groomers to get his hair trimmed off. so then he will feel better. I don't know how you can stand so much heat down there. Our yard is fenced so he is protected from the beasties. You seem to need a lot of equipment to keep all your little ones safe. Toto the snow loving dog and me |
How horribly sad to witness such a thing. The owner should have been aware of the drought conditions and not allow their pet to wander to the pond...for safety precautions.:( |
