Missing dog from Arizona found 1,800 miles away in Wisconsin | abc7chicago.com HOWARD, AZ -- A small Yorkshire terrier took the trip of a lifetime. He made it from Tucson, Arizona all the way to Howard, Wisconsin all on his own, WLUK-TV reports. Linda Baldazo thought a bird may have picked up her dog, Nicholas, when he sneaked out through an unlocked gate at her home. She searched for the dog for two months, but she couldn't find him. Eventually, a woman 1,800 miles away found Nicholas wandering along a street. She called animal control. "When I got there, (there was a) cute little Yorkie dog just cute as a button and friendly. The first thing I do is I take my microchip reader and check because he didn't have any collar or tags on him," said Animal Control Officer Monica Hoff. Nicholas' rescuers discovered through his microchip records that his owner lived in Tucson, Arizona. Baldazo couldn't believe they had found her dog so many miles away. "It's amazing that he's over there," Baldazo told KGUN-TV. "If only he could tell us the story of how he got there...I would love to hear if only he could talk." A veterinarian said it's too cold to put little Nicholas in the cargo area of a plane bound for Tucson, so Baldazo has decided to make her way up to Wisconsin to get Nicholas and bring him home. The Bay Area Humane Society says if it wasn't for Nicholas' microchip, he may might have never made it back home to his owner. |
Lets have a huge round of applause for MICROCHIPPING!!!! |
Yes. Even more reason to get your pet microchipped. |
Hooray for whoever chipped this dog!!! |
What a great ending. YESSSSSSS for micro chipping. |
So scary. That's one heck of a walk in the winter time. Poor thing is lucky that he didn't freeze to death. |

OMG, that's so amazing, I wonder what the little guy was after, or is he just saying it's too damn hot in Arizona! I'm another fan of microchipping, so many dogs have been returned, sometimes it takes a while, but better late than never. I would love to know how he survived that long on his own. |
what a neat little story :) |
A very touching story. Oh Lord Thank YOU for keeping this precious little one safe This is just totally an amazing story. I can't thank the Lord enough for the owner of this little one and for keeping him safe on his journey. Quote:

Microchipping is so critical. When a yorkie showed up on my neighbor's porch we spent lots of time and effort trying to track the owner down, but the pup had no microchip. We went through so many Facebook ads and craigslist ads, and it seemed like almost every pup from the Lost Dogs of Texas Facebook page that was successfully reunited with his owner had a microchip. |
From France where Yorkies is very popular and you can bring them every where I live in France and have two Yorkies. The French are very proud of dogs and you can bring them to the Cafe, Restaurants and Hotels. When you get a dog you have to register the dog and have it microchipped. This make it more difficult to steal a dog and to get a lost dog back. |

Awesome story! So glad this baby is making his way back to his owners. I can just imagine how excited and thrilled they must be. I agree! Microchip all the way! I wish it were law every where! That would cut down on the number of dogs on the streets and in shelters. |
The microchip got the pup home !!! |
Someone surely had to have washed him, right? I cannot imagine what a little matted mess I'd have on my hands of my fur baby were away from me for two months. |
Sorry but I'm suspicious about part of this story. I bet he was stolen from AZ and got loose in Michigan. Jmho but yeah for microchiping. First thing I did with Buddybear. |

I'm with you, this little one didn't go this far without a ride...after the new wore off I'm betting that he was let go...so sorry for this baby and his owner for the heartbreak they both went through |
Puppies are microchipped before they leave my home. I do it for the puppies' protection. |
Amazing... Love this story and it's amazing the little tyke made it home. Recently my dog ran off only a mile away from home, but she found her way by herself.... I'm so lucky my 10month old baby found her way.... don't know what I would have done without her. I agree, micro-chipping is great. Luckily for me my dog followed her nose. |
Please everyone microchip babies.. Please keep up to date also. Every year..a yorkie was found last Friday in my neighborhood.. The people were instantly texting me and calling me to make sure it wasn't Gianni.. Thank god. I told them no it wasn't but thank you for asking me asap cuz I would of been out of my head with worry..and thank the person who was gracious enough to pick that baby up and take it home, until we find its home. Cuz it was really cold out and almost got hit..I told them to take it to vet and check to see if microchipped. I bet it is. He was..home happy n safe. If you love your dogs people all breeds Microchippe please!!! |
Happy ending So happy he made it back home!! |
This is crazy! How did little Nicholas travel so far, he probably hitched a ride with someone. It was only 2 months which isn't much if your traveling 1.8k miles on foot. Must be a very smart little guy to make it so far and stay safe. So glad he was micro-chipped, its so inexpensive everyone should do it! |
