That is what I was thinking....Carmen has not posted since the storm hit her....Lordy, I am so worried about her.....and that litter of babies! It is such a challenge to get a litter through 14 weeks, all normal and healthy, when everything is going along super....when you are up to your butt in alligators, it becomes VERY hard to keep momma and babies on an even keel.....pray for everyone and the struggles they are having to deal with........ |
I am worried about Carmen too. I know there are other friends that I am not thinking of as being from nj or ny... I am praying they all are ok. I lived in Miami when andrew hit in 92...in an area that was hit hard!! It was life changing for sure. We got through it and life did get back to normal after a long haul. What amazed me was people calling (after we had phones) and complaing about small things.. and I did not have food, water, couldn't bath my children etc...makes you see the world differently. I pary that all my friends and the people of the areas hit can see that they will get back to normal.. or a new normal.. just take it one day at a time. (((( hugs)))) |
I am fairly certain that the power went out for my neighbors sometime on Sunday, October 28th because I looked out from my house and saw darkness. New Jersey was hit before me, but the winds continued to be bad until Tuesday sometime and Carmen most likely lost power later unless she used her phone to log on to YT. We lost cable and internet for a while, but we didn't lose power yet we are definitely in the minority. I hope we hear from Carmen soon. It is so scary without power and without much contact with the outside world and also for those of us waiting to hear from people we care a great deal about. A lot of people here lost cellular service, too. |
Oh Lord...I'm really worried about Carmen as well...is there anyone else that I cant think of that we havent heard from? I don't know of all the YTers in that area...I do pray all from the affected areas are warm and safe. We got the tail end and it was still pretty bad, I can only imagine how bad it was for those that took a direct hit. |
I read that some of the cell companies are having problems getting back up and running. I imagine some regular phone service is out, too, where poles and lines were downed. Imagine being without power and no way to communicate. I hope she's married and has a man around or evacuated if she is not married. It might not be safe for a woman alone in situations where she can't get help in ASAP. I pray we hear from Carmen soon. Boy, Lisa, it does sound like you missed being one of the majority on Long Island by only a few houses. You are truly blessed to have escaped the blackout. So glad you have power, didn't have damage and ya'll are okay. Close call. |
Carmen just emailed me (I sent her msgs just in case) She is fine, just got power back on but no internet, tv or phone) Yay! that she's okay! |
Kathy that is great news!!!!! Please tell her we were all thinking about her:) |
Big relief! So good to know she's okay! Whew! Now we can all actually say how scared we were!!!!! :) |
Haha! I sent her my phone # not thinking, then I heard other methods may work, so I sent her my email addy... this is what she wrote: (and yes, I told her all of YT was worried and praying for her, her family and the puppies!) "We are ok no internet tv or phone. We just got power back an hour ago.thank u for checking on us." |
[QUOTE=kjc;4047281]Carmen just emailed me (I sent her msgs just in case) She is fine, just got power back on but no internet, tv or phone) Yay! that she's okay![/QUOTE Oh thank God!!!! I know you can text when you have no phone service....when we lost phone service, I had to go to the service station and while I sat in line for HOURS, waiting to get gas, I had to PAY kids $5.00 to text my friend in Florida, so SHE could then call my job HERE IN HOUSTON, and tell them how I was doing and why I was not back at work....I had to do that every day for 2 weeks..... I am so happy Carmen is OK!! I dont know Carmen, just know her as a breeder, just know she has a new litter, and just worried about the situation in general....NOW, WHO ELSE IS MISSING!!!!!! WHO ELSE HAVE WE NOT HEARD FROM THAT HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THAT DAD GUM STORM???? |

OK.............NOW!! Is everyone from the storm ravaged area that is in our YT family, present and accounted for?? |
I am trying to think of who I talk to ... how about baci's mom? |
Some in our area are still without power. Most of our gas stations are out of gas & there are lines a mile long waiting at the others. Reminds me of the 70's! Praying for all those dealing with the after effects of Sandy! Blessings! Hopesmom |

I can't imagine how it felt to hear that first clicking sound & the little alarm noise the system makes when the electicity came back on after so long! Were you at home and awake when it happened? That had to feel like he very best present in the world to have lights and warmth and TV, etc.! So glad you are finally back up and running as they say. :) |
The Hurricaine Thanks to many YT friends for the status of those of us living on Long Island. Having lived on Long Island for 60 years, I can say I have never seen such devastation. Many people have lost their homes, power, cars, etc. We have all been helping each other and feel very blessed to have survived this. Our fur babies were shaken up but they are doing well. :) |
My friend just got her electric on today and tomorrow the plumber is coming to install a new hot water heater and heating system. My son's friend has been staying with us. His family still has no electric or heat. Hopefully by the end of the week they will. He's a sweetheart and I enjoy having him with us. The President is coming here (Staten Island) tomorrow and I hope he can offer support and services to people. Some have lost everything. It's just too sad. |
we are ok, lost power for 5 days, cable, internet and phone for 13 days, and gas was rationed for 2 weeks, but life is slowly coming back to as normal as is going to get, we loose power for hours they still cutting trees that are close to the power lines and son on, I posted a video of my little town by the lake to show the damage we suffer..thanks for caring.. hugs, |
I remember sitting in a gas line for almost 2 hours....and they ran out of gas....4 hours later, the tanker arrived and dropped gasoline.....alot of the cars had left and I had managed to end up second in line to the pump....car in front filled up with just dropped gasoline, and then filled up gas cans for their generator, and it was my turn....I just needed gas for the generator.....as I was filling up my cans, that first car that had JUST filled up, had pulled out onto the street and their car had gone about 50 feet and DIED!!!! I didnt think anything about it, took my own gas cans home filled up my BRAND NEW, $2000.00 GENERAC GENERATOR, AND COME TO FIND OUT, IT WAS BAD GASOLINE WE HAD JUST GOTTEN AT THE SERVICE STATION!!!! Which is why that car had died in the middle of the street as it was leaving the station.....it ruined my generator.....thank God I had not put it into my car.....this was 12 days into no electricity, no phones....I just sat and cried, as more of my rain soaked ceiling and isulation fell down into the bedroom......FEMA was absolutely useless to me....they were supposed to cover what insurance did not pay for....I got zip, nada, zilch, zero from FEMA......Have your insurance companies told you they are not covering any damage caused by the storm surge??? We all got THAT news when they started assessing damage on the handful of homes that were not washed completely away on Boliver by the 22 foot storm surge...damage not covered by homeowners (not wind driven rain)NOR by flood insurance (not rising water).....we all empathsize with you up there....we have also lived the nightmare you are living now....it takes forever to get back to a point where you can start to get back to some kind of "normal". Gird up your loins....you have yet to encounter all those insurance adjusters.....if you believe you are getting rooked by your insurance company, here in Texas we contacted the State Board of Insurance in Austin....they really did put their noses to the grindstone and help people get what they were due to get from insurance adjusters, who were called in from all over the country, given a 2 day course in adjustments, and sent down here with a little book, "to look stuff up as they went along", and use us as "on the job training".....TIP: If the wind lifted your shingle up off the decking on your roof, the integrity of the roof and shingles has been comprimised and you are entitled to a new roof....not just tacking down the dislodged shingles....they will try to get out of replacing your roof by just repairing the peeld back shingles....NOT GOOD!!! NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! |
oh wow, our roof is brand new just put up last august, and it held up, I had the roofing company come and check on it, still under warranty of 6 months. the only damage we had was a garbage can hit the back gate and broke it, hubby replaced it when Home Depot had a piece of panel that we could buy. is all done, FEMA is a JOKE, I have friends that lost their homes and they still walking around here like zombies, we call them the Fema walking dead, their answer to everything is they just "DONT KNOW". insurances gave the people a 4 to 8 week waiting period to get an answer on their claims, this is a travesty. I drove to PA for gas, it got to the point here that people were arguing and trying to kill each other with guns for a gallon of gas, very scary and depresing. every other day we got up at 4 am and drove to PA to get gas and some normalcy. the babies did very well thru the storm mama kept them warm and we all hurdle in my bedroom where we had a small heater run by the small generator running all night. My son's put a camping tent in the hall upstairs and slept inside their winter sleeping bags.. they thought it was cool since I never allowed them to do that inside the house when they were young..LOL , we still loose power for a couple of hours since the crews still removing trees and debris from the power lines and sorrownding areas. I thank God that hubby was able to stay home for 5 days during the no power days, between him and the boys they kept the generator running... so sad about your generator, was it still under warranty, I would rather NOT eat for a month but have a generator, now we have 2 a big one that runs the house, my house is all electric, and a small one that runs the heaters for my dogs.. yes my pack has their own generator..;) hugs, |
We are running on generators for hot water and electric. our complex was hit with 25feet of water in our basement which destroyed boilers and electric. this is all nothing compared to the devestation in Staten Island, Long Island, and the Jersey SHore. my heart goes out to all those people who lost everthing... |
Here's a little video that was done about my town .. |

I got nothing for my generator Carmen....you TRY to cover your butt for EVERY concievable disaster, when you have all these poor little innocent babies totally dependent on decisions YOU make for yourself and them...I had bought that generator 13 months before the huirricane, so if I ever needed it, I would have it. I also bought two a/c and heating window units that could be put in windows to cool or heat a room where I could put all my dogs in crates, if I ever needed to do that....those units also have a separate smaller generator. Since the big expensive generator was not "bought specifically for the hurricane" that is, within a week of landfall, Insurance would not cover it....so I thought FEMA may, since they "cover damage the insurance wont pay for"........hahahahahahahaha, JOKE!!!! The video above.......brings back raw memories of what we went through....sights your eyes can not believe! |
