Yes, every time I see New Jersey on the news I think of her....

Very sad news on the TV. A woman here was trying to escape the storm and her car stalled. She got out of the car with her 2 year old and 4 year old and the children were swept away from a wave of ocean water. They just recovered the two boy's bodies. I cannot imagine how devastated and heartbroken this Mom and Dad are. I'm praying for them and everyone effected by this terrible storm.

How terrible! I hadn't heard that!!! May God be with that poor woman and the family. That poor woman!

Nope, I am in NY as well, and we are fine here. No power loss. More like a bad rainstorm.

Just adding my prayers for all affected by the big storm.

My area faired pretty well, the eastern shore of MD. I decided to listen to the voluntary evacuation as my hubby was in FL on business. It would have just been the babies and me. We were lucky at my sister's and got some serious rains but really not much tree damage, just smallish limbs and lots of leaves.

My sister is in NJ and has no power for the 3rd day. She has spotty cell phone service. She's been lucky that she can have her phone charged in a car for enough service to get calls, she cannot make them very well. My brother is in Long Island and only lost power. 15 minutes away from him got flooded and lost power, he was very lucky.

Prayers for everyone else that has been touched by this storm, be it Sandy or the snow.

For all of us wondering about Carmen...she was online Oct 29th posting about her new litter, I suspect she didn't see this thread...

My brain is half dead.........When did the dad gum storm hit???!! Wasnt it after the 29th???? I think she posted before the storm hit.... She reads posts tho, and I am thinking she would see us all wondering where she was and if she was safe, and she would have said something if she could....

I don't think she has been on since the storm hit. I also notice another member MikeTallulah hasn't been on either and she lives in NJ. I hope they are both safe.

Lisa, the fact that you live in NY, Long Island, completely escaped me. I am very happy to hear that you fared very well considering what your area is going through.

We're all OK here.
First stationed at home, power went. Not a problem, except EVERYTHING runs on electric. That meant no lights, no cooking, no heat, no hot water..
Went to a friends house during the eye of the storm, and everything was OK... Then the wind and rain started again, and a tree fell in the yard just barely missing the house. Didn't miss the power lines though.
Well at least we were warm.
The lights didn't come back on at home until today. The generator for the complex actually blew. I mean BOOM!!! Orange green and white lights in the sky like fireworks blew.
We headed to my mother's in Philly. Nothing much happened there, she didn't even lose power. 250 trees went down in the city proper, only one minor injury, only 65,000 units lost power and the flooding while extensive, was only in the areas that always flood.
I should have headed there in the first place, since Philly never really gets hit hard.

Dogs rode out the storm like champions. The only hairy moment was when the tree fell. I think we all freaked for a few minutes.

I hope that everyone is OK. I hope the damage turns out to be minimal for everyone.

Thank you for thinking of me. Like most of Long Island, most of the places in the town that I live in don't have power. Our development has underground lines, so we are very lucky. Most of the schools on Long Island still are closed. The high school that I work in has power, but the middle school is still out. They did the transportation runs yesterday, and the roads are not safe, so we are closed until Monday. We sustained damage, but I can't complain. I feel so bad for all of the loss, sacrifices that people are making, and the tragedies.

I didn't know she lives in NJ...she hasn't been on FB either...I really hope both are ok....prayers

I think it hit on the 29th...Monday right? Hoo boy serious brain freeze...ok folks, when did the storm hit?

We live in Connecticut. We are okay thankfully. We have lots of friends here that were not as fortunate. Please keep all that were affected by Hurricane Sandy in your thoughts/prayers. Fur babies and humans...

Present and accounted for. So very lucky to still have electricity and potable water. Nibblet is being very sassy because she's bored and wants to go outside, but not until I can be sure the trees aren't going to fall and kill us both. I'm a photographer and I had to shoot a wedding on Sunday in the City, with the reception on the water in Hoboken - we spent the whole day racing the weather. It's like something out of Omega Man out there!

As I listen to all this on TV about the hardships all these people are enduring, I am brought right back to what we went thru with Hurricane Ike...We were THREE WEEKS without power.....and we did not have the flood water to navigate.....please be strong, people are TRYING to get to you...they can NOT get through the obsticles....you have NOT been forgotten, we just cant get there! My cousin who went there with hundreds of others from States all over the South, to help restore your power......PLEASE be advised, THE UNION WORKERS FROM YOUR AREA, are refusing to allow these men that have come from hundreds of miles away to help, BECAUSE THESE MEN ARE NOT UNION WORKERS!!! They are being called "scabs"....OMG!!! ,,,,this is soooooooooooooo sad!!! I am listening to TV as I type...another bit of bad news.....INSURANCE! PLEASE TAKE PICS OF EVERYTHING YOU HAVE THAT IS RUINED...insurance companies are all talking warm and fuzzy right now, but let me tell you from PERSONAL experience, when it gets down to the actual nut cutting, they are NOT going to want to pay for even half your damage....and I had full replacement coverage....also, what you experienced with your storm surge that has been responsible for destroying your homes: bad news! Your property is NOT covered against storm surge!!! We went through that with all the homes that were COMPLETELY WASHED AWAY from Boliver, just like what you are experiencing on Staten Island....none of our homes were covered by insurance...we had flood insurance yes, but the INSURANCE COMPANIES dodged that bullet by announcing "storm surge is NOT a flood"....so we lost hundreds of millions of dollars because of THAT loop hole....you too will be seeing how THAT works! I think the verbage "STORM SURGE" needs to be dropped from the warnings ....people do NOT understand that term....People in New Orleans were told about a storm surge that would be catastrophic, GET OUT!!! They did not choose to leave, and many died and were stranded for weeks in flooded areas.....Ahead of Ike, people were told on Boliver to GET OUT!! a huge storm surge was the big threat....many did not listen, and they died as the storm surge rolled completely over Boliver, washing every single home, except for less than 10 homes, completely away. And now, the same thing has happened ahead of Sandy....people stayed, did NOT leave, and they died. I think TIDAL WAVE rather than storm surge...people know what a tidal wave is....storm surge has absolute no meaning to people....Katrina had a 28 foot storm surge, Ike had a 20 foot storm surge, and Sandy had a 14-16 foot storm surge.....these things are devastating, deadly....people just do NOT understand storm surge and just will NOT leave when told to. So sad.....and then the survivors are stranded because help can NOT get to you to restore power, bring food and water, etc....it is too late for all of these people....but PLEASE people, LEAVE ANY AREA OF MANDATORY EVACUATION when you are told to leave....if you do survive the initial on slaught, you just have NO idea and can NOT imagine the hardships you are going to have to endure because you chose to stay! HELP IS THERE, THEY JUST CAN NOT GET TO YOU!!! Try to be patient....be sure you turn off the gas in your home so that when power is restored, you dont have an explosion from the gas igniting. Hopefully, all these politicians who are today decending on the area, bragging about all they are doing to help all of you, TELL THEM TO BRING GENERATORS WHEN THEY COME!!! You NEED generators, to power up the service stations, so you can ACCESS the gas that has been delivered to all those gas stations that have NO power to pump the gas!!!! I am sorry for the long post, but I am also frustrated FOR you all...you are going through what we have already been through....I guess I am actually reliving my horror of Ike, watching the same thing we all experienced down here on the Gulf Coast, now becoming YOUR reality. God bless you all, and give you all the courage and strength you are going to need to get you through this. What lies ahead of you is going to be absolutely, completely unimaginable to you....you have to be strong in the days ahead......

The Storm on Long Island
 

We are feeling very fortunate to be safe and we just got our power back on. There is so much devastation all through our neighborhood and we feel very blessed that people have been kind. We have 3 dogs and they are safe with us and they are happy to have the power back. We cuddled them under the blanket for warmth.

Sunday (28) and Monday (29) the storm was here in Maryland, and moving northwest. Tuesday (30) and Wednesday (31) it hit New Jersey and New York (and other states).

This thread was started on the 30th, when NJ lost power. Carmen last posted on the 29th.

Praying for all those poor folks affected by this monster storm...
