The Irreverent vet responds to sleeping with pets. Great response to the article in USA today about the dangers of sleeping with your pet! |
Great article. Thanks for sharing. |
Love it, great vet response! I'm right there with that line of thinking. Thanks for sharing. |
Thanks for posting. Rosie sleeps with me and will continue to do so. Glad to know the Irreverent vet agrees!! :) |
Great response. |
Great article...thanks for sharing. |
It really makes me angry to hear that one family wanted to get RID of their dog...OMG...that is just awful...if they are worried...just kick it out of their bed!!! I can only hope they see this article!!:( |
Yeaaaaa! Loved the article! Thanks for sharing!:) |
I got my girls so I would have to sleep alone! I love my cuddles... I don't know what I would do without them  I don't care if I got the plague, I'd still cuddle and sleep with them, lol! They're so worth it!! |
It is a great article! I don't let my dogs sleep with me because I don't like them licking while on my bed. :p But Blue is so good, does not bother me or hog my space. He knows that if he wants to lick, he has to get off and do his thing on his own bed. So he is my "teddy bear" at night. :D |
I don't think there is one thing wrong with sleeping with your pets or not sleeping with them. It's everyone's own choice. I can't sleep with any of mine. I've tried, but I'm such a light sleeper and two of mine bark at any tiny noise, (but not when they are in their own beds) and I don't do well without a full nights sleep. |
Good post. |
Read your article and bravo! Once I got Tibbe and he started sleeping with me: I sleep better at night as I have a great watch dog. My BP dropped 25 - 55 points and my cholesterol took a 65 point nose dive. My blood test was done about 4 months after I got him and I swear I had done nothing else different other than get Tibbe and care for him. Oh, yes, and my slightly high platelet count has either been normal or less slightly elevated than B4 but never up to pre-Tibbe levels. Course, he keeps me going all the time so I lost about 6 - 7 lbs. Any way you look at it, Tibbe made me healthier. He's way healthier than he was when I got him so as I see it we both made out like bandits! |
I have to comment to yorkietalkjilly's post... That is great that you are doing well after you got Tibbe! Losing six to seven pounds is a lot and I know how hard it is to lose a pound, so congratulations to you! |
Thanks for posting. Just loved the vet's reply. :) |
thanks you irreverent vet for making that one right. it is far easier for me to make them sick than for them to make me sick....stupid article! dogs belong in our beds with us if we want them there and by golly I WANT THEM IN BED. |
I enjoyed the read...but my dogs do not sleep with me...well their kennel doors stay open now so sometimes they sneak...my concern is their safety not mine! I roll a lot...the boy does too...we need to upgrade to a CA King...but still our bed is 3' off the ground...dog beds are under our bed, next to the kid's beds...for their safety...if sleeping with them was so dangerous due to illness and whatnot-uh then what we should never touch or pet or hold them? That was ludicrous! TY vet...but you forgot to mention their safety...just sayin' |
You could probably contract more from sleeping with another human...:D |

I really like this response to that silly article! |
I couldn't read the article it says link broke. I will go look it up another way. I did want to say recently the news were saying the danger of sleeping with pets (dogs) and even an artcle was posted in out Sunday page about it. So the BF comes over one night, he doesn't live with me but does stay alot with me since my son got married and moved out. He shows me this article and goes to tell me the danger of getting paracites from dogs sleeping with you. I got so mad come off couch like a bat out of he77. Read the article and the very last paragragh stated if you are going to let your pets sleep with you just make sure they get their vaccines. I was like did you read the last paragraph? He was like well I just don't like it. Okay you know where the couch is or the front door. LOL Mine are still sleeping in my bed. Wouldn't have it no other way. |
Hmmm. So I keep getting these colds from my dogs (3x in 2 months)? Makes so much sense now...muahaha |

Thank you for the post. I have had at least one if not more, yorkies in the bed with me for 20 yrs now. My very first one Nakita started it all and I don't think I could rest well without my furbabies to snuggle up to at night. My Chipper would die if he did not get to sleep in his bed, lol. 14 was the most I ever had sleeping with me at one time. Thats when my hubby moved into the extra bedroom. I can't blame him really, he does love my babies but 14 was a few too many. We have a nice number of 6 now and are very happy with that. 5 sleep with me. Pappy the rescue poodle sleeps with his Daddy. Ops Sorry did not meant to steal the thead. Just glad the vet set the story strait for everyone. Blessings |
Great article! Thanks for posting :) |
That was a great article. I wouldn't stop sleeping with my yorkie anyway. If anything, I think she is good for my health, she is my little stress reliever. When I get to cuddle with her at the end of the day I am so much happier! |
I keep my pups clean and vaccinated and the only way I will ever kick them out of my bed is if it is for their protection, not mine. My little Angus would be heartbroken if he couldn't sleep with me and my husband. Trouble, our other Yorkie prefers his crate at night but stays with us until he gets sleepy then goes and gets in his crate when he's ready. We don't lock him in and he can come and go as he pleases. I love the way their little warm bodies feel against me and so does my husband. |
Great article. I can't believe a family was considering getting rid of their Dog. If they do that then they need to get rid of soda potato chips and anythingthat can ruin Your Heath. My Mitsi will contine to sleep in Our bed Her cuddly cuteness is well worth the risk lol |
Zeke sleeps in the back of my knees. Zack burrows in between our pillows and Zoey's between us. Zipp, he prefers his space and privacy:D and sleeps in his own bed. When I am sleeping in the afternoon between midnight shifts they are all with me. Guess it's a 3 dog night. Need I say more. I get more illnesses from people at work who come in sick to save their sick leave then brag about how little sick time they use. |
My 2 have always shared our beds with us. Never any problems. My yorkie is very protective, and she alerts us whenever somebody is too close to the door. I know the different toye of barking she has. It is very obvious when Suzi is upset at the door, that their is an unwanted stranger . She runs to the window, we are on the second floor, she looks out , then will run to the door , furiously barking her head off, and she sounds like a much bigger dog then a small one. We are protected with our 2 always close to us, even at nighttime. I am disabled, my son is disabled, our two wonderful dogs have helped us tremendously, just by their presence , and sleeping with us for added protection. :p |
