I think it's ok to treat them this way lol. I'm 25 and don't know if I can even have kids so I got Silver so I could be mommy to someone. My mom says Silver is her granddaughter and my sisters say shes their niece my brother doesn't say much and my roomie says he's daddy. My mom has always had dogs and calls them my other brothers/sisters so I don't care what people say about me babying Silver. |

Oh gosh... this whole thread is me too! I don't have kids... time just flew by with my pursuing other interests and next thing I realized I'm mid-30s with no hubby and kids! I got my boys 5 years ago and they are literally the light of my life. They healed my broken heart, made me whole again, having them is pretty much all I need to fill my nurturing instincts. They are my kids, truly. The other morning my love for them and protective instinct towards them was confirmed to me in no uncertain terms. It was 445am and I woke up because my boyfriend was laying beside me moaning and tossing around in what I thought was his sleep. (this is something I can ONLY admit HERE! LOL) My FIRST thought was my boys. I thought he was going to accidentally kick or pick up and throw one of them off the bed. I thought he was having a nightmare. I shook him and realized he was awake and IN PAIN, he hurt his back earlier that day and it was really painful and he could not get comfortable. Usually the dogs sleep in their bed at the end of our bed covered in blankets but they always end up in our bed with us. I got up to get him some advil and I turned on the light and inconspicuously I searched for the dogs with my eyes and found my boyfriend petting Dexter and Fletcher was on my pillow. I just felt pure relief. That they were ok and he was not aggravated with them. Isn't that bad? LOL I know my boyfriend loves my boys also and would NEVER hurt them, he'd do anything to keep them safe even if it was just for my benefit but I just thought it could have happened in his sleep. I was scared for my boys more than my boyfriend! bad bad me! |
Of course I treat Sammy like my son!! He's my baby boy. We refer to my skin sons as Sammy's brothers. My friends are Aunt and Uncle and their dogs are cousins. OK so we are all a little crazy!! Who cares?! I love my sweet puppy boy and he loves me. I tell Sammy that he's the best behaved of all my kids! I have one picture of each of my sons on my cell phone and the rest are all of Sammy!!:D |
LOL - a study was needed to determine this?! Whether you have children or not, furbabies are family! |
I know I treat my girls as my babies that's for sure. I have three grown boys and now have three little girls. :D |
They are our best friends and we take care each other...I treated her as I would want someone to treat me...she was a wonderful loving Yorkie and loved her as if she was my child.... |
Count me in ... :) Oh for sure, Isabella is my baby girl, I always say, she is the daughter that I never had.. I think she is much more spoiled than my boys ever were, and I'm pretty sure they would agree...LOL.... |
Part of that club... I am a part of the club too...my fur babies are my life!! They are my children and always will be!!:animal-pa |
All though we always had doggies when my children were growing up they sure do help now to fill that empty nest :) |

I love my babies! I am what they had described in the article...there's no harm! :D my babies wear clothes and I spoil them. I miss them when I'm gone and rush back to care for them. My family says I'm a "slave for my dogs"... The only thing I don't do is feed them human food, which is because I care about them. I do feed them healthy food, such as carrots. They have a queen size bed of their own that is set up as their area :D They have more clothes than my bf and I! I bought them Christmas present and birthday gifts. They ARE my babies, I always tell others that I'm a mom and have a daughter and a son. :D |
Lol. I get separation anxiety when I have to go to work. . When someone refers to Roxy as 'the dog', I tell them she is not a "dog" she is a Yorkie! I've been told that Roxy is spoiled. I tell them that Roxy Is Not spoiled, she is Special. When I refer to Roxy as "baby" I think I can see it in her eyes and her thinking "Mom! I am 3 years old! I am Not a baby anymore" lol Love my Pup to bits. |
Guilty as charged:aimeeyork. my cousin always tells me that he can't belive my Gigi has a better life than he does |
