In shock but should be surprised! I was very sad when I read this! I live in Florida and If anything were to happen to my Henesey or her mate Jack Daniels I dont know what I would do. But this isnt much of a surprise. People here are very cruel. They butchered one of our families horses just to do it. Left it in our yard for us to wake up and find her in peices. And we are not alone. About 7 to 9 horses were treated the same. I wouldnt put anything past people. I have 3 acres and for the most part I allowed my babies to roam freely outside while being indoors (with the doors and windows OPEN) cleaning or cooking. However I also have a 86lb boxer who is extremely over pertective with out lil ones, who is always outside with them. Even still hearing this story I think im going to change my routine and not let them out of my sight. I hope this never happens to anyone else. I agree with everyone who's said that out dogs are our children! They are so right! |
I am a fairly new Yorkie owner and Teegy is a very social and loving dog. I was fortunate the majority of my friends and my brother are dog owners and I was able to socialize him with lots of other dogs and people from a very young age. I recommend to avoid your Yorkie baby becoming a yappy snappy dog get them out there socializing. Our friend Pat, who has a beautiful Yorkie Murphy, has a grand daughter Molly who has formed a very special bond with him and he loves her right back. So don't keep them at home, Teegy loves bouncing around in the snow and loves nothing better than a lovely walk in the park, meeting new dogs. |
What terrible person would steal a pet from someone. It seems to be a good idea to get your pet mircochipped so it can not be sold if stolen. It can be traced. Most Vets will scan for chips as general procedure. We too take our yourkie most places where we go....she part of the family. :aimeeyork |
dog clothes I feel so bad for anyone that has a pet stolen. People don't understand how attach we are to our furbabies. My heart goes out to them. :eyetearss:eyetearss |
I am a new Yorkie owner as of Nov. 2009. I would just die if some one could my "Teddy". I feel so sorry for you. Teddy could Lick and Lick us all day. Any advise for him to stop Licking so much ? P J & tEDDY |
A couple weeks ago I heard on our local news that 12 yorkies had been stolen from various houses in a part of town about 15 minutes from where we live. The story had a lady who said her husband had let him out in the fenced yard for no more than 10 minutes and went back to check and he was gone. They showed a pic of the yard and it was a good fenced in yard. i was  I never really leave Toby out in the yard any longer than it takes him to do his business, but now i check extra cautiously to see if anyone is hanging around our street or anything before letting him out and I check on him extra frequently (Usually just watch him out the window the whole time). It's sad and ridiculous that people would do this  |
Little Dog stolen :( I am so sorry for the person that got her Yorkie stolen, I am always frightened of my Yorkie getting stolen especially when he want to go out at night to go to the toilet, he likes to go out just before he goes to bed, although he is not out for long and our property is fully fenced, it is very dark around here at night, and I don't let him out for very long, but still I have seen a man in our back yard about a yea:aimeeyorkr ago, before I got Yorkie, so I guess i am still very aware that someone could get over the fence. Well all the best to that one that thi happened to and I do hope that you gt your Yorkie back. |
Old thread but I wonder if ever got her dog back??:( |

Ah yes...The microchip...Usually if a vet actually scans an animal they assume it belongs to the person that brought in the animal...It isn't like a magical little receiver. My French Bulldog was microchipped, and stolen and that was the end of that. Nothing you can really do. Best thing you can do is keep a watch on your animals...I live in the middle of nowhere but someone that had seen him with us at some time, I assume, came down our driveway, grabbed him and drove off like something crazy...We have an AmStaff that discourages most people from getting out of their car but my babies always love car rides...so all they had to do is pull up and open the door and my Frenchie stole himself. Many people want an animal that makes people stop and stare and ask questions, but not many people can afford one....so they figure they can just take one...Because it's just an animal, they figure they can feed and take care of it so why not take it. People are dumb and what I am saying is if it is worrying you make sure that your dogs are in sight. If they go out keep them with you...Don't leave them in the car at all...so on and so forth. You can't expect them to not be dogs anymore...but they wil have to be dogs with a crazy obsessing owner...lol. Just ask my animals as I stand a foot away on every bathroom break... |
I don't understand threads or if I am even posting - sorry My husband and I are there - PLEASE let us know what we can do - PLEASE to help any animal - (side note - we feel, and are just sickened about the oil spill - what can we do to help? Thank You) |

Protect them Don't take it for granted that you can leave your little ones out alone if your yard is fenced. We moved recently to a gated community so we can't have fences but our Brady is potty trained indoors so he only goes out when we take him for a walk on a leash. Where we used to live we had a fence but when we let him out to run around the yard we always stayed there. |

Stolen Yorkies There have been 2 Yorkies stolen in our city, Springfield MO just last week! I don't get it... I really don't! I would be devastated!! |
I understand this is an old post but wanted to share a recent experience. Our beloved Piper was stolen from our yard (fenced). The people who had her kept her 5 days before calling us! They actually had the nerve to say they saw the jeweled collar and tags (yes tags with name and phone on them) so knew she was loved. She was so covered in burrs that it took my daughter and I an hour to get them out. Some of them were embedded in her skin, so we had to use a metal comb to get them far enough from her head to cut out :( Her beautiful full coat is going to have to be shaved :( She's lost so much weight we can feel her bones! To top it all off the people admitted getting her from our yard! They didn't admit to taking her from the fence, so maybe she escaped but that doesn't explain why they didn't contact us. I feel in my heart that the only reason we got her back was it was to much work to get her cleaned up and they couldn't take her to a vet or groomer without questions and groomers around her can't touch them without shot records. I'm still so mad that I'm shaking as I write this! |
Has anyone ever used a tracking device with their Yorkie? I've been looking online but everything seems so big. |
No, I haven't used a tracking device. Someone posted on here once about some that weren't so big I think. Both of mine are microchipped but that doesn't help any if they aren't scanned. You are so fortunate to get your dog back. Did you ask them why it took so long for them to contact you? Usually the first thing that someone (with intent to return a dog) does is look for a tag with contact info. I'm sorry that it had to happen, but again thank goodness that you got Piper back. |

I don't think they intended to return her but couldn't take her to the vet or groomer without shot records. I'd also plastered the area with missing dog reports and she was microchipped. I was so mad I was shaking so my husband drove the 15 miles to pick her up. It didn't even sink in at first that they'd had her without calling us, I think because we were so happy to get her back. It wasn't until I'd hung up the phone that it dawned on me the circumstances. |
Thank God you got her back and she is safe at home with her Mommy. Some people I just do not understand. Two years ago I found a Yorkie, male, and there was no tag no way to find an owner so I kept him. I had him three days when we went to the grocery store and seen a flyer of him. I contacted the owner right away. She wanted to pay me for giving him back and I told her I would not take her money but that if she ever found someones dog that she would also return it. She was a very nice lady and very happy to have her baby back. |

That said, I would still want some comeuppance for the horrid people who stole her! I can't believe they even admitted taking her from your yard without checking with you! That alone should get them in some trouble. But since you have her back, I doubt you can get the police to do anything. I would probably call them back and say -- Why did you not call us for 5 DAYS? Why did you take her from our yard without knocking on the door or checking to see if she belonged there? Were you planning on keeping her? Check your state, some places allow you to record a phone conversation with one party's permission. If you could get them to admit they planned to keep her, maybe the police would lay an order to appear and at least get them fined in court. Some states don't allow recording unless both parties are agreeable though so check first. |
Glad she is home !!!!! Quote:

Wow, that is so scary that Piper was "taken" from your own yard. Yes, this sounds like these people intentionally took Piper. I agree about contacting the local police to fill out a report on these people. If they have done this once, they will do it again and again. And sad to say, those pups may never be reunited with there rightful owners once stolen. I am glad I don\'t have a fenced in yard and HAVE TO walk both dogs in our yard on their leashes. We live in a very nice neighborhood that if someone is desperate, they may steal dogs or anything else that they could sell. Atleast by having my dogs on a leash and must stay outside with them, they won\'t be stolen from us. I am so happy to hear you have Piper back home with you. |
Wow that is an awful experience! I\'m so glad your baby is home and I hope those people are somehow punished for their actions. I would be sooooo angry. |
