Dog Drags Newborn From Home Found this story a bit ago. Horrible. Dog Drags Newborn From Home |
I watched this video in utter disblief. It is just too odd the way the mother and father are alleging that this happened. How can you not know this is going on if you are contientious about your 3 day old child's well being. I saw on the video that it was a large home, big dog etc. But, how could that dog even jump in the crib without waking that baby. I don't think he could have, someone had to hear the baby crying. Just suppose the 3 day old baby was upstairs in that large house they certainly would have had a baby monitor to hear the baby crying or possibly see the room on a tv monitor. Who puts a 3 day old baby upstairs away from them anyway? No one but negligent people. I can remember checking my children and grandchildren at that age many times while they were sleeping just to see if they were still breathing. The parents should be charged with felony criminal neglect or child abuse. It is their responsibility to make sure the baby is safe.Hopefully they won't make an impulsive decision and uthenize the dog, he should be rehomed. In my opinion this dog may not be the most culpable in this incident. I hope the baby will survive with no live long repercusions from the tragic tragic things that have happened. |
Omg:( |
:( It's terrible. Poor baby, poor doggy. :( |
Oh that poor baby. I hope he survives the ordeal. I think the dog needs to be rehomed, and not euthanized. He was treating the baby as a puppy and did not viciously attack the baby. Plus they say he's fine with their other children. I think sadly the parents are to blame here. how are they not keeping tabs on a 3-4 day old baby every few minute? where is the baby monitor? how could they not hear the baby cry? i'm sure that baby was crying when the dog picked it up in his mouth. sad...very sad... |
I watched the interview of this poor father this morning on the news...I think he's still in shock & disbelief of this horrible ordeal. From what he stated, he said that he & his wife were down stairs no more than two minutes starting to write up a list of things that still needed childproofing around the house. Their infant son had been born 3 weeks premature and they were still in the midst of preparing for his birth at the time of his early arrival. In anycase, accidents do happen and if I could fault them for anything, it is not thinking ahead to at least prepare for a barrier from their dogs & their new baby that they had at least 8+ months to prepare for. Given that...like most new parents these days, it's understandable that some things can get put off till the last minute...and unfortunately their last minute arrived even earlier than they could foresee. I personally want to believe that this family pet was doing as the father suspects...playing with a new found toy and went off to perhaps bury it (gulp!) and for that reason...I could not vote for putting this animal down. He did not act out in a normal pet aggression type scenario...jmho. Hopefully, this tragedy will be a lesson to those who procrastinate (me included) to plan & follow thru long before the last minute...it could actually save a life...two, infact should their pet have to be put down! |
This happened about twenty miles from me. baby is doing well and the dog was playing as he would a stuffed toy. he will not be PTS but adopted by a family with no children after he is out of quarantine. or at least that is what my local news is saying. |
This is really sad. I feel horrible for everyone! Maybe the baby didn't make a sound...well, the baby couldn't have made a sound or they would have heard it. Anyway, you know how fast a dog can move to grab a piece of meat off a table...1 second. If that dog really wanted the "toy" he'd get in and out as quick as possible... Premature baby = less time to prepare... They had no clue this dog would do this I'm sure. |
I just saw this on the news. So sad, glad to hear the baby will be alright. |

Wow.. how horrible! I didn't get to watch the news today.. that is so sad. I sure hope that the baby recovers without permanent damage.... or just makes it. Sad. |

It is a beautiful dog. It doesn't sound like the dog was trying to kill it. I don't think the people should keep the dog but perhaps it could be turned over to Best Friends Animal Shelter in Utah if they will take it. |
This is from wikepedia.org [edit] Breed-specific legislation The wolfdog hybrid has been the center of much controversy for much of its history, and most breed-specific legislation is either the result of the animal's perceived danger or a categorization as protected native wildlife.[8] The Humane Society of the United States, the RSPCA, Ottawa Humane Society, the Dogs Trust and the Wolf Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission consider wolfdogs to be wild animals and therefore unsuitable as pets, and support an international ban on the private possession, breeding and sales of wolf-dog hybrids.[9] [10][3] According to the National Wolfdog Alliance, 40 U.S. states effectively forbid the ownership, breeding and importation of wolfdogs, while others impose some form of regulation upon ownership.[11] Most European nations, as well as many U.S. states and municipalities, also either outlaw the animal entirely or put restrictions on ownership |
I am so happy that the dog isn't going to be PTS. I don't really blame the parents (to err is human), but I do think that the dog didn't mean to hurt the baby. The parents should have been prepared - how long does it take to get a baby monitor? I also believe that babies should be with their mothers. When a baby is away from his mother, he feels extreme pain and discomfort. Babies shouldn't be put in cribs and nurseries, they should be with you. Anyway, I am happy that the baby is going to be alright and that Dakota isn't going to be put down. |
The dadsaid as soon as he heard his wife scream he immediatly ran outside. Which I thought was a bit bizarre. I hope that poor baby is going to be ok. They said it had 2 skull fractures, broken ribs, collapsed lung, several lacerations. They had to replace all of the babies blood because it had lost so much. My God what a horror. I also believe the dog meant no harm or he would have killed that baby right there in the babies room. He was just doing what dogs do. What a horrible situation. |

Now that they know this was a hybrid wolf dog, I can see the owner knew little about the dog he had in his house. I found this very interesting and some parts really mirror what happened. Ark Animals Wildside: Wolf Dog Hybrids Canine Series Part 5 |
Does anyone know where a news clip is that announces this is a wolf hybrid? I'd like to see it. |
This station says Wolf/Collie but our tv station said Wolf hybred and I suppose they did a dna test?? I have to leave for a farmers market in a minute so maybe someone else can find out more. http://www.wlky.com/news/20141273/detail.html |

It was an accident, they didn't think/know the dog would do something like this. I feel bad for the parents, they are going thru a tragic time-- imagine the guilt you would feel if you were in their shoes. You have a dog that gets along well with your other kids, you put the baby down in the nursery, thinking he's safe--all the parents on here, can you say you've never put your child in the bedroom/other room and went to make dinner, go to the bathroom, do laundry, etc??? Even if they had a monitor--that dog probably grabbed him and ran. What if the parents had been in the same room taking a nap with the baby and this happened?? Thank God they were checking on him, and found him in a timely manner. I pray that the baby will be okay and that the parents can forgive themselves for this tragic accident. |

Thanks for the post dated 7-21, I think that is how is was reported until 7-23. I wonder if there is anymore news on the baby? |
They upgraded the baby from critical to serious late yesterday and seem to think it will continue to improve. there is a big controversy here locally over if this in fact a wolf hybrid. Some newspeople say it is. Animal contro is only sure of one thing. They have never heard of a dog like this before. |
a woman came in where i work told me about this how odd poor baby how scary!!this "dog" looks like a wolf! |
I find it a little disturbing how the media keeps pointing out that it was a wolf/dog hybrid that did this, when in reality ANY dog (or cat for that matter!) is capable of doing harm to a small infant if they are left unsupervised. That really ought to be the focal point of a tragedy like this rather than turning it into a BSL issue. Penny is wonderful with children, but even knowing her, I would never leave a baby unattended if she could get at him. Any animal has the potential to have their instincts kick in at any time, and infants make strange sounds, smell funny, and certainly do not command the sort of respect that an adult human or even an older child can demand of a dog. We choose to live our lives beside these beautiful, intelligent creatures with predatory roots, and we need to respect that and always take that into consideration when bringing them near smaller animals-- smaller humans included! |

We have a Native American Indian dog that comes to board where I work. I had never heard of the breed before. It does have wolf in it's ancestory. I don't know if legally it's considered a wolf hybrid but they are very large and look like wolves. I hope it's not put down. People need to be more responsible with their children especially around dogs. Any pet can injure a child. It's the parent's responsibility to keep them safe. |
omg that is crazy! |
